Chapter 5 What day

Chapter 5;

POV Caon

"Caon!"

"Caon!"

"CAON!"

"What the fuck ? What?!"- I said groggily, frustrated and confused as my head whips up from the table.

"My boy, you were a sleep at your desk . I see there's been a bit of a tumble in here, and you were hard to wake. Is everything ok?" - My father Alpha Lucien said leaning over with his hand on my shoulder.

" I'm fine dad. I just got tired and must have fallen asleep here, knocked some paperwork off as I fell asleep." I said trying to diffuse the conversation with him.

" And the claw marks on your desk? Don't lie to me Caon ." He said unconvinced with my blaśe attitude.

" It was just frustration dad. I'll have them from time to time. No-one got hurt , only my desk ." I said trying once again to pull the wool over his eyes.

"I know that's not what happened here Caon, you are the most levelheaded man I have ever come across...it's how you we're raised....Do you think it's the mate thing that's got you this way? You've never fallen asleep at your desk before, you have better stamina than that." He said with the undertone of worry.

"There's no pulling the wool over your eyes is there old man! Honestly . Probably dad, but what can I do ? It seems like no matter what old books you find there's nothing about what I'm going through now , most of the pures find their mates before 20, I'm 21 in two and a bit weeks no one's gone this long . Something happened yesterday. Catori lost control over himself and went numb.. he was trying to escape me and he had no idea he was doing it. I've told Catori we will go on another pack visit soon. We do have the invite to a couple of packs that have their new Alpha's taking over , so maybe I'll go to them after mine. That way I get to search for her and keep our alliances strong with the new heads." I said to him . He's always been my supporter , no matter what I decide,no matter what I need to do .

"Ok son, if that's what you want to do . I suggest setting up this pack to run smoothly without you while you visit the other packs . I can help in the background with whoever you want to run it while you're gone , but may I suggest the person you appoint? Maybe get your beta Cain and trainer Kai to look after the place while you travel . Get a handful of warriors to go with you . That way you have someone you trust to run the pack and know there's no overthrowing your reign while your gone and you'll still be protected while visiting other packs. I'm still searching through archives of pure bloods with delayed mates , there's got to be more then what we've found so far". He said with care and concern .

"All we've found is that the maddening darkness creeps in and starts making the wolf aggressive ... that's it .. there's nothing about delaying it , nothing about stopping it and nothing about how to find your mate quicker. I'll have to write the book myself if this continues , cause I'll be the only one that never finds her and goes mad." I said, anger at our goddess about making it difficult to find my mate, annoyance at her for making me go through something that could weaken our pack.

Lost in thought I forgot to ask "what time is it dad?"

"It's 5am , the day of Mabon. It's why I came to find you. You missed dinner and coming to me at the end of the night for our night cap. Thought you might have needed extra rest , but you weren't in your room. Your office was the next logical place to check for you."

"Oh man, guess I better get on with the day. Has the apple picking with the children been organised? All the baskets ready and the nets taken off the trees for them to get them?".

"Yes your mother got some of the groundkeepers to get everything ready for the pups. You just have to meet everyone there at 8am to start the picking off. You've got time to pick yourself up and have a shower , something smells bitter in the air here."

"It must be the left over lunch , at least I finished the smoothie that would have been foul by now".- I said looking for the plate and glass to take to the kitchen.

Standing up I got a head rush and steadied myself on my desk. Dad started reaching out to catch me . "Vertigo dad. It'll go away , must have slept funny."

"Very well Caon. I will see you in the orchard at 8am. If you have anymore of these spells I urge you to maybe go speak to Celeste to see if she's found out any spells to delay the darkness in you."

" I'll see if she can see me tomorrow once Mabon is finished. I just need today done and dusted". I said while straighten up my clothes , and combing my fingers through my hair.

He leaves without any more words. I have a moment to right myself and clear the confusion from my mind.

'Catori, you ok? '

'Caon , I still feel a bit numb and out of sorts . I feel a bit detached from you.'

'I feel it too Catori. What the fuck is happening to us?'

'I don't know but I definitely don't like it.'

I make my way to my room and have a sink basin wash it freshens me up a bit and move to get dressed ready for our 6am training session, no point having a shower until after the training. Getting dressed I think what I have to do after the apple picking . We need to fertilise the plants at 11, we have the wolf run through the forest after lunch , light the bonfire to clear out the old harvest and ready to replant the new , and dinner in the street with the whole pack . Inbetween that I'll need to go see Kayden at the patrol office for a board update. Maybe I'll do that after the run .

"Kayden" - I mind-linked . " I'll be stopping in after the pack run this afternoon to get an update on the boarders."

" Are you sure Alpha Caon, I could just as whilst come to you . I've got it all here ready to go over what we've seen the last few days."

"No it's fine , it will be a good chance to get away from my office for a bit."

"No worries . I'll see you this afternoon. Enjoy your run".

Right that's sorted , checking the time I have 5 minutes before I need to be on the field.
