Chapter 4 Lead up

Chapter 4:

21st September

It's the day before Mabon , our mid harvest festival. We have a hunting group getting the birds we need 34 turduckens for our pack .

Looking out the window of my office I see the streets are filling up with the tables and decorations , luckily for me my mother Luna Zia is in charge of this celebration while I haven't found my mate. Thinking about it I get a zing through my body and I close my eyes as Catori growls with growing rage and thrashing through my mind.

'We will find her Catori , please control yourself we have work to do and visitors here . When they go I promise to do another tour of the packs !'- I say while bending to put my head to my knees.

*knock , knock*

"Alpha Caon ?" There's a knock at my door , by the smell of her she's one of the kitchen workers ... Dove I believe her name is.

" Come in"- I say as I straighten myself up and take a deep breath, it's getting stronger and my wolf weaker. I'm going to have to visit Celeste again soon.

"I'm sorry for interrupting your day Alpha, but I've brought you some food as we down in the kitchen noticed you didn't attend lunch today. " - Dove said with worry and care .

"Thank you Dove . Let the team in the kitchen know my appreciation for the food." I said watching her retreat . I thought at one time she may have been my mate.

A year ago I smelled this intoxicating smell , it was the redolence of a forest after a rain. I was enraptured by it .. I ended up in the kitchen area but it was gone by the time I got there and only 3 ladies were in there . My mother , head chef Alma and Dove. Alma has a mate , obviously wouldn't be my mother but when I got closer to Dove there was nothing there. I asked if anyone had just left and no one had. I put it down to madness of not finding mate beginning within me.

As I stop to eat Carter and Cain walk in the office. "Hey Alpha Caon, oh sorry I didn't mean to interrupt your meal. " - said Carter, stopping dead in his tracks and starting to back out.

"You're fine Carter, it's just a quick meal , as I never left for lunch the kitchen staff bought me something to eat . How was your communication day going today?"- I asked , while my fork hung in the air. Had to ask something so hopefully he'll talk so I can eat.

"Good , I think I understand why our wires get crossed with our orders sometimes now, so it is something I can straighten out pretty quickly once I get home . You've got a great training set up here and you've really done it in a way where it's easily digested. I had fun yesterday through the problem solving part of the week . "- Carter said full of energy and excitement about what he's been learning his first week here.

" Good , you've only got one more day of admin and the organisation side then you'll be joining Kayden and Alexander in the patrol area of our pack." - I said after I finished my mouthful. God this smoothie tastes good today . White grape juice, strawberries, mango , pineapple and something I can't quite put my finger on. I will have to ask them for this more often.

"Yes, I hear Alexander has found a hole in our system at home that he's eager to get to fix . I look forward to seeing them and what they've been doing this week ." Cater said.

"Was there something else you guys came to see me about?" - I asked while staring at my smoothie , what was that extra taste?!

"Yes, sorry got a bit off course . With the Mabon celebration tomorrow and the hunt you have planned this evening . Can I and my pack members join you? I know Theta is in the kitchen prepping the birds for tomorrow but the rest of us would like the chance to run our wolves." - Carter said with a touch of anxiety . I wonder what he's worried about ?

"I see no reason , Cain get the map of our territory out so we can show where we will be hunting and where the out of bounds areas are."

"Sure thing Alpha. Carter if you'll follow me . I'll mind-link Kayden and Kai to bring the others round to the pack house to go over it so i only have to do it once and then I think Theta better get his ass into the kitchen to make those turduckens .. I'm starving just thinking about them!" - Beta Cain said , and as he finished his stomach growled, and as he has to make a joke he added " see , I'm totally in tune with my body."

"Maybe you should stay out of the kitchen with that bottomless pit of a stomach you have Cain, the food being prepared in there is for tomorrow's feast and we don't want to be short 100 plates."- I said.

"I'm not that bad Caon, anyway there's still afternoon snack and dinner for today before tomorrow, I'm sure Alma has food put aside for that.. I'll stop in on the way to get the maps go over the area with Carter and crew". Cain said as he walked toward the door.

And as they leave and the door gets shut , my body and wolf decide to destroy me from the inside out.

'What the fuck Catori' - I mind-link my wolf . 'What's going on? A shit this hurts! '- All of a sudden Caon leaned forward, slapped his hands on the desk infront of him and Catori claws came through piercing the desk .

'I don't know Caon, somethings wrong , I feel numb.' Catori says back.

'Stop trying to break through me, control Catori control. We are Alpha , we are in control. If you feel numb why are you pushing through?' Caon said back, while trying to breathe in through his nose and out through his mouth.

'I can't feel anything Caon, I'm not controlling my actions. Somethings not right, I'm in fight mode and I don't know why.' Catori said with a bit of fear and frustration at what's happening to us.

As quickly as it came it went. Why did that happen ? When did I end up on the floor? Was this more of not finding her and the darkness growing inside me? So many questions and no answers to them. It's time to go back to the books. Once I clean up my desk again.

I'm getting tired of this, Caon thought as he picked himself up , putting himself back in his chair and breathing deeply while the exhaustion takes over him and everything goes black.
