Chapter 4 Out Shopping

Aaron frowned.

Jessica did come from a small village. She wasn't well-educated and she wasn't competent. Even when they divorced, she was so mad that she refused to accept a penny from him. So, how was she supposed to support herself now?

It was clearly stated on their divorce agreement that he would give her a villa and a few million in alimony...

But when he thought of the fierce determination in Jessica's eyes when she said she wanted a divorce, he second guessed himself. Would she think that he was patronizing her if he tried to offer her money? Or perhaps he should simply ask her what compensation she wanted...

With a myriad of thoughts plaguing his mind, Aaron hung up on Eunice before the latter could say anything more.

The call was abruptly ended, but Eunice didn't get angry. Instead, she called Hallie excitedly.

"Hallie, your dreams are about to come true! My brother finally divorced that bitch!"

Hallie, who had "broken her leg" the previous day, was currently strutting through the mall in high heels.

She had lied to Aaron, saying that she was seriously injured and could hardly walk.

While on the phone with Eunice, Hallie stood in front of the mirror to appreciate the white dress she was trying on. Hearing Eunice's words, she couldn't help but smile to herself.

Everything had gone according to plan. So, it came as no surprise when she heard that Jessica had been kicked out.

Hallie was overjoyed, but she remembered to pretend to be worried. "Oh, no! That's terrible. Their divorce has nothing to do with me though, right? I'm worried Jessica will blame it all on me. I heard that she comes from a financially challenged family. She had to drop out of school at an early age and didn't receive a proper education. Even if she secures a job, her options may be limited-she's lucky if she gets to be a waitress or a cleaning lady. How hard her life will be!"

Eunice snorted with disdain, "My family's the richest in Acomond. Before she agreed to a divorce, she must have gotten what she wanted!"

"Wait a second. Did she ask Aaron for a lot of money? What about the car and the house? Did she ask him for shares in the company?"

Hallie suddenly became anxious. When she married Aaron, his car, house, and money would all belong to her! As for the company shares, her future children deserved them. There was no way in hell she'd let Jessica get all these things!

"I asked my brother, and he said that Jessica refused to take a penny," Eunice replied. "Hallie, do you remember the supermarket near my place? I ran into Jessica there."

Hallie quickly caught on.

The villa that Eunice lived in was purchased by Aaron. Hallie had been there before, and all the people who lived in the neighborhood were either rich, powerful, or both. So, it was impossible for Jessica to have shown up there for no reason; she must've forced Aaron to buy her a villa in the neighborhood as compensation.

Apart from the house, she must have demanded other things from Aaron.

What a shameless bitch!

Hallie gnashed her teeth.

She couldn't let Aaron give Jessica anything. She had to find a way to get closer to him!

Hallie was so pissed that she paid for the dress and left without changing back into her clothes. As she walked out of the store, she called Aaron and spoke in her most pity-inducing voice. "Aaron, you know that I live in a friend's house, right? Now, my friend's on a business trip. With her gone, no one's here to take care of me... My leg hurts so much. I can't even walk to the bathroom on my own. The doctor said that if I don't take good care of myself, I'll become a cripple. I'm so scared... My friend's house is near the mall. Can you pick me up? I just really don't want to be alone..."

Hallie voiced her supposed "misfortunes", but unbeknownst to her, her every move was photographed by Jessica's men.
