Chapter 5 Maintaining So-called Dignity

She couldn't go to the hospital.

If she went there, her secret would definitely be exposed.

It was ridiculous, but she didn't want anyone to know about the child because she wanted to preserve what little dignity she had left.

Eva knew that her so-called dignity had disappeared since the day she agreed to the fake marriage with Adrian.

Now, in front of him and his loved one, did she still have any dignity left?

Eva lowered her eyes. She couldn't bring herself to lay bare anything that could invite mockery.

After hearing her words, Adrian furrowed his brows deeply, turned the car around, and abruptly parked it at the side of the road.

Seeing this, Eva thought he wanted her to get out of the car, so she reached out to open the door.

But the next second, the car was locked.

Adrian stared at her through the rearview mirror with an inexplicable look in his eyes.

"Why won't you go to the hospital?"

Eva maintained her composure and spoke calmly, "If I'm not feeling well, I'll go see a doctor myself."

Hearing this, Adrian dangerously narrowed his eyes.

Vivian hurriedly said, "Adrian, is it because of me? Maybe I can get off here, and then you can take Eva to the hospital. After all, her condition is not to be taken lightly anymore."

After speaking, Vivian leaned towards Adrian's side, wanting to press the unlock button on the door.

Then Eva saw Adrian stop her, and their wrists touched.

"Don't say that." Adrian frowned, glanced at Eva, and then said, "Don't overthink it. It has nothing to do with you."

Vivian glanced at their hands, and a shy expression flashed in her eyes.

Eva quietly observed this scene.

She only looked away when Vivian's gaze met hers, feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Eva, I misunderstood you earlier. I thought you were angry with me because of Adrian. I'm sorry." Eva glanced at her with a faint gaze.

If it weren't for Vivian helping her and being kind to her, Eva would have suspected that she was deliberately saying these words. But after all, she was also her benefactor. Eva forced a smile. "It's alright."

However, Vivian smiled and said, "You don't want to go to the hospital, are you afraid? My friend opened a small clinic after returning to the country. How about you go there and take a look?"

After saying that, she looked at Adrian and asked, "Adrian, what do you think?"

Adrian didn't agree immediately. Instead, he furrowed his brow and said, "A clinic? Is it reliable?"

Vivian felt a bit embarrassed and said, "Of course. If it's not reliable, why would I recommend it? Don't you trust me?"

After considering for a moment, Adrian nodded and said, "Then let's go to the clinic."

Eva furrowed her brows.

The next moment, Adrian's car had already driven away, ignoring her refusal. Vivian was still saying kind words to her.

"Eva, don't worry. My friend has a good personality. He is patient and gentle with patients. I will explain your situation to him in advance. We'll take it slowly when we reach there, alright?"

Compared to the gentle and considerate Vivian, Eva felt like the complete opposite, stubbornly refusing to go to the doctor even when she was sick.

What else could she say? Eva remained silent, and the car drove away again.

After arriving at the clinic, Vivian helped Eva out of the car and softly said, "Are you still feeling dizzy? If you're uncomfortable, you can lean on my shoulder."

Vivian spoke softly and emitted a faint fragrance of gardenia. Her actions were also gentle and tender.

Eva lowered her gaze and thought, "Not only was Vivian beautiful, but she was also outstanding in many ways. Most importantly, she had saved Adrian's life. If I were Adrian, I would probably like Vivian too."

After Vivian's friend arrived, she went to talk with him for a long time. The man was wearing a white coat. Finally, his gaze landed on Eva's face, and he nodded before walking over.

"Hello, you're Vivian's friend, right? My name is Brian Mitchell."

Eva nodded at him and said, "Hello."

"You have a fever?" Brian asked softly, raising his hand to touch Eva's forehead.

The sudden closeness made Eva instinctively move to the side. Her reaction made Brian smile, and he said softly, "Just testing the temperature."

Without continuing, he took out a thermometer and said, "Let's measure your body temperature first."

Eva took it from him.

Adrian's voice came from behind her, "You know how to use a thermometer, right?"

Eva ignored him. How could she not know how to use a thermometer?

But because she was sick, her head was a bit dizzy, so her movements were sluggish.

After she used it, Brian said they would have to wait for a while.

Seeing this, Vivian took the opportunity to speak to Brian.

"Brian, let me introduce you to Adrian," she said.

"Adrian, this is Brian that I mentioned to you on the phone earlier. He is highly skilled in medicine, but he loves freedom, so he returned to his home country and opened this clinic. Brian, this is Adrian, he is..."

She paused for a moment before blushing and said, "…my friend."

"Friend?" Brian raised an eyebrow at the term. Then his gaze unintentionally swept over Eva's face before returning to Adrian. "Hello, I'm Brian. Nice to meet you."

After a while, Adrian raised his hand and lightly shook hands with Brian. "Adrian."

"I know," Brian smirked mysteriously and said something ambiguous, "Vivian often talks about you. She holds you in high regard."

"Brian!" Vivian seemed to be caught off guard as her fair cheeks instantly turned pink.

"What's wrong? Did I say something wrong? Don't you often praise him in front of everyone?"

"Alright, stop it," she interrupted him.

During their conversation, Adrian glanced at Eva.

She sat there with her eyelids gently lowered. A few soft strands of hair hung down to partly cover her forehead, concealing her beautiful eyes and hiding all her emotions.

She sat there quietly, detached from everything, like an outsider.

Adrian's face instantly darkened.

Five minutes later, Brian took the thermometer and then furrowed his brow, saying, "The temperature is a bit high. I'll give you a shot."

However, Eva lifted her head and said, "No shots."

Hearing this, Brian glanced at her and then smiled, saying, "Afraid of pain? Don't worry, I'm very gentle."

Vivian nodded in agreement. "Yes, Eva, your health is important."

But Eva shook her head and insisted, "I don't want shots, and I don't want to take medicine."

Her stubborn appearance made Adrian furrow his brow.

"In that case, we can only use physical cooling. I'll go get medicine and supplies. In the meantime, you can use a wet towel to cool your head. Just be careful not to overheat."

When Brian and Vivian left, only Eva and Adrian were left in the room.

Eva felt dizzy.

She wanted to go get a wet towel to cool herself down, but she had no strength left.

At that moment, Adrian, who had remained silent, suddenly spoke up, "Why can't you take shots or medicine?"
