Chapter 2 Let's Get Divorced

Adrian threw her into the bathroom and left.

Eva kept her head down until Adrian was gone. Slowly, she lifted her head and gently wiped away the tears from her face.

A moment later, she locked the bathroom door and took out the pregnancy report given by the hospital from her pocket.

The report had been soaked by the rain, making the words on it blurry and indistinct.

She had originally planned to share it with him as a surprise, but now it seemed unnecessary.

After living with Adrian for two years, how could she not know that he was someone who always carried his phone with him?

But he would never do something so boring as to intentionally send her a message like that and then ask her to go back.

It could only be that someone took his phone and sent her that kind of message, making her go there to become a laughingstock.

Eva stared at it for a long time, then sneered and slowly tore up the report.

Half an hour later, Eva calmly walked out of the bathroom.

Adrian was sitting on the couch, his long legs resting on the floor. He was working on his laptop.

When he saw her come out, he pointed to the hot chocolate next to him.

"Drink it."

"Okay." Eva walked over, took the cup in her hands, but instead of drinking it, she thought of something and called out his name.

"Adrian."

"What's the matter?" His tone was indifferent, and his gaze didn't even shift from the screen.

Eva looked at Adrian's exquisite profile and well-defined jawline. Her slightly pale lips moved.

As if growing impatient, Adrian raised his head, and their eyes met.

Eva's skin was now pink, and her lips were no longer pale, but perhaps due to the rain, she appeared somewhat sickly today, exuding a sense of brokenness.

With just one glance, Adrian's desire was ignited.

Eva's mind was too complicated to focus on Adrian's emotions.

She hesitated as she prepared to speak. "You..."

Before her lips could fully part, Adrian leaned in and kissed her, as if he couldn't control himself.

His rough fingers quickly turned her fair skin red. Adrian's breath was hot like fire, and Eva felt suffocated by his kiss. Just as she tried to push him away, his phone on the table rang.

He paused and withdrew his passionate embrace, reluctantly pecking her lips before stepping back. His voice was hoarse. "Have some hot chocolate and go to bed early."

He then stood up and left with his phone. He went to the balcony to make a call and closed the balcony door behind him.

Eva felt a bit dazed from the kiss and sat for a while before getting up. Instead of going into the bedroom, she walked towards the balcony.

The glass door was only half closed, allowing in a cool breeze and Adrian's deep voice. "Hmm, I won't leave. What are you thinking? Go to sleep like a good girl."

Adrian's voice was gentle like the wind. Eva stood and listened for a while, then chuckled lightly.

So he could be gentle like this too, but unfortunately, his gentleness wasn't directed at her.

She turned around and entered the bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed with an expressionless face.

In fact, their marriage was originally a mistake, merely a transaction.

Two years ago, the Hansen family went bankrupt, and overnight, Eva was left penniless, becoming the laughingstock of the entire New York.

The Hansen family had grown too quickly before the bankruptcy, creating numerous rivals. After their downfall, countless people wanted to see them become a joke.

Some even boldly declared that they could help the Hansen family repay their debts as long as their daughter could marry them.

Before the Hansen family went bankrupt, there were countless men pursuing Eva, but none of them could earn her favor. Over time, everyone said that the Hansen family's daughter was too proud.

During that time, a group of men played tricks behind the scenes, secretly raising the stakes.

At her most destitute and humiliating moment, Adrian came back.

He took care of those bidders, making them pay a tremendous price. He cleared the Hansen family's debts and then said to her, "Engage with me."

Eva looked at him in shock.

Seeing her shocked expression, he reached out and rubbed her face.

"Why are you surprised? Are you afraid that I'll take advantage of you? Don't worry, it's just a fake engagement. My grandmother is sick, and she really likes you. If you pretend to be engaged with me, it will make her happy, and I'll help you revive the Hansen family."

So it was a fake engagement. It was just to please his grandmother. He didn't actually like her.

But even so, she agreed to him.

Even though she knew he didn't have feelings for her, she still willingly fell into this abyss.

After their engagement, Eva felt awkward.

They were childhood friends, but they had always maintained a friendship rather than a romantic relationship. Suddenly being engaged, Eva couldn't find the right words.

Adrian, on the other hand, was natural and comfortable. He hosted various banquets.

She brought him along to all the activities. A year later, Granny Blackwood's condition deteriorated, so they got married, and she became the envied Mrs. Blackwood.

Rumors were flying outside that this childhood sweetheart couple was finally living happily together.

Coming back to reality, Eva couldn't help but laugh.

Unfortunately, there was no love at all. It was merely a transaction that they both desired.

"You're not sleeping yet?" Adrian's voice suddenly came over.

Then, the spot next to Eva sank, and Adrian's cool breath surrounded her.

"I have something to tell you."

Eva didn't turn her head. She probably guessed what Adrian wanted to say.

Adrian said, "Let's get a divorce."

"When?" She lay there, her expression calm. Her voice was devoid of any ripples, and her tone was calm, as if she were talking about something ordinary.

Her demeanor made Adrian furrow his brows, but he still said, "Soon after Granny's surgery."

Eva nodded. "Okay."

Adrian asked, "Is that it?"

Hearing this, Eva glanced at him with a side glance. "What?"

Her eyes were clear and without any impurities. Adrian was caught off guard by her question, choking for a moment before reluctantly laughing.

"It's nothing, you heartless woman."

After all, they had been husband and wife for two years. He proposed a divorce, and yet she remained so calm.

Originally, their marriage was just a transaction, each getting what they needed.

His existence only deterred the pursuers around her.

If it weren't for Granny's sake in the past two years, she probably would've distanced herself from him long ago.

Adrian wiped away the uncomfortable feeling brought by Eva's calm reaction and lay down beside her, closing his eyes.

"Adrian." Eva suddenly called out to him.

Adrian abruptly opened his eyes and looked at her. His deep eyes were extraordinarily bright in the dim light.

"What do you want to say to me?"

Looking at his handsome face, Eva's pink lips opened and closed, finally saying, "Thank you for these two years."

Hearing that, the brightness in Adrian's eyes dimmed. After a moment, he tugged at the corners of his lips. "You're rambling."

Rambling? Eva turned her head. After the divorce, she wouldn't have this kind of opportunity anymore.
