Chapter 4 Aborting the Child

Eva felt a bit helpless. "It's just rain, nothing major."

Finishing her sentence, she walked over and placed yesterday's work report on the desk.

"This is the summary of yesterday's work. I've organized it. I have other things to attend to, so I won't disturb you anymore."

Eva looked at Vivian, who immediately smiled.

After Eva left, Adrian's brow furrowed tightly.

"Adrian?"

It wasn't until Vivian called out to him that he snapped out of it.

Seeing Adrian in this state, Vivian felt inexplicably uneasy but still spoke gently and considerately, "I can tell Eva isn't feeling well. Although she's your secretary now, she was still a miss from the Hansen family before she went bankrupt. You mustn't treat her poorly."

Eva returned to her office, feeling heavy and exhausted.

As soon as she sat down, she couldn't help but slump over. The dizziness intensified.

After a while, Eva heard Jenny's voice.

"Eva, why don't you go back and rest?"

Eva truly couldn't muster enough energy. She was feeling extremely uncomfortable. She weakly said, "Jenny, I'll take a nap."

With that, Eva fell into a deep sleep.

Eva started dreaming.

In her dream, she went back to the year she turned eighteen. It was the day of Eva and Adrian's coming-of-age ceremony.

Both families celebrated together. Eva wore a blue dress she liked, carefully styled her hair into large waves, and did her nails. She was ready to confess her feelings to Adrian that day.

After searching for a long time, Eva found Adrian in the small garden.

As she walked towards him holding up her dress, she overheard a few of Adrian's friends teasing him.

"Adrian, now that you're of age, is there a girl you like? You might consider getting engaged."

"I think that girl, Eva, is not bad. She's always following you around."

When Eva heard this, she subconsciously stopped in her tracks, wanting to hear Adrian's response.

After all, his answer was crucial for what she was about to do next.

However, before Adrian could answer, someone interjected, "Eva isn't suitable. Adrian treats her like a sister. Who doesn't know that Adrian only has one person in his heart, and that's Vivian."

Eva secretly looked towards Adrian.

The young man sat on the stone bench, his long legs resting on the ground and his handsome face showing a faint smile. He didn't deny it.

"Indeed, Eva is just a child. Vivian is gentle. She has a feminine charm, and most importantly, she's Adrian's lifesaver."

The person who said this was Michael, one of Adrian's best friends. He usually enjoyed teasing Eva and always pulled her braids whenever he saw her.

"Yes, Vivian saved your life. Back then, when the river was rushing, if she hadn't jumped in to save you, you might not be alive in this world anymore."

The young boy nodded and, for once, uttered a rare "uh-huh".

His complexion appeared pale under the moonlight. "I will always keep a place for her by my side."

The color drained from Eva's face, leaving her extremely pale.

Vivian saving Adrian's life was a story that circulated with great enthusiasm among their circle.

Just as heroes once saved maidens, a maiden had now saved a young boy.

But Eva wasn't aware of this.

Because that year, it seemed she also fell into the water. She suffered a high fever and a serious illness. When she woke up, she had almost forgotten many things from before, including how she fell into the water.

Some of her classmates said it was because she was being playful, which led to her accidentally falling into the water.

However, Eva always felt like she had forgotten something, but no matter how much she tried, she couldn't remember. As time passed, she completely forgot about the incident.

She never expected that Adrian would be so fixated on the person who saved his life.

If only it had been her who jumped in to save him that time.

In her dreams, her emotions seemed to blend with the current Eva.

She felt an unbearable weight on her chest and a splitting headache. Why wasn't it her who jumped in to save him back then?

Suddenly, Adrian's face appeared before her. His gaze was icy and merciless. "Eva, get rid of the child."

Next to him, Vivian emerged like a clinging vine attached to Adrian.

"Eva, if you don't abort the child, could it be that you want to ruin our relationship?"

Adrian's gaze turned even colder at the mention of ruining, and he stepped forward, gripping her chin. "Behave yourself, or don't blame me for getting physical."

His grip was incredibly strong, nearly crushing Eva's chin.

Eva struggled and suddenly woke up, her whole body drenched in cold sweat.

Before her eyes was a road steadily retreating.

Was it a dream? How could it feel so real?

Eva let out a sigh of relief.

"Eva, you're awake." A gentle voice came from the front, and Eva raised her gaze to see Vivian's worried face. "Thank goodness! I was worried something might happen to you today."

Vivian? What was she doing here?

Just then, Eva realized something and looked to her side.

Sure enough, Adrian was driving, and Vivian was sitting in the passenger seat.

Adrian glanced at her through the rearview mirror when he heard she had awakened.

"Awake? Is anything else bothering you? We'll mention it to the doctor when we get to the hospital later."

Eva's heart, which had just settled down a bit after waking up from the nightmare, became tense again because of Adrian's words.

"No need to go to the hospital, I'm fine."

Upon hearing her response, Adrian glanced at her once more.

"Why are you making a fuss? Do you know how worried I was? I didn't know you had a fever."

Vivian chimed in, "Yes, Eva, you have a high fever. You need to go to the hospital. I heard from Adrian that you got caught in the rain yesterday. What happened exactly?"

Looking at Vivian in front of her, Eva's pale lips moved, but she didn't utter a word.

Vivian must have been present during that scene yesterday. Was she implying something by asking this?

Lost in her thoughts, Vivian's face showed a worried expression as she looked at Eva apologetically. "Is it because of yesterday..."

Adrian interrupted Vivian, his voice steady, "In any case, go to the hospital first. Take a good rest if you're sick. You don't need to go to the company for now."

Vivian's words were interrupted, and she looked at Adrian with surprise.

Eva lowered her gaze, a deep chill in her beautiful eyes.

Indeed, she was the person he cherished the most, caring so much about Vivian's emotions.

After a long while, she finally looked up and said, "I'm not going to the hospital."

Adrian frowned, sensing her unusually stubborn attitude today.

"Why won't you go to the hospital when you're sick?"

Eva pursed her lips. "I know my own body. I'm clear about it."
