Chapter 5 Troublesome Woman

The next day, it was time for Valentina and Kolton to get their marriage certificate.

Before leaving for City Hall, Kolton took out a sheet of paper and handed it to Valentina.

"Go through this. If you don't object to any of the terms, sign it. After that, we will go and get the marriage certificate."

Valentina glanced at the heading, which was stated in bold letters. It was a prenuptial agreement.

Their marriage would be for a period of two years. They wouldn't interfere in each other's lives during this time.

While married, he would provide all reasonable expenses for her. Her responsibility was to keep his family happy, and when necessary, attend a few social events with him.

They would divorce at the end of two years. She would have no rights over his property, and she would leave the marriage empty-handed.

If she refused to divorce him, he would have the right to take measures to have her imprisoned.

Valentina scowled when she read this clause.

"Why are you only putting restrictions on me? What if you don't want to divorce me at that time?"

Kolton replied sternly, "That's impossible."

"I don't agree with this. In the interest of fairness, you need to add one more clause. If you refuse to divorce me after two years, you will transfer all your property to me."

Kolton stared intently at Valentina. She was young but so greedy. She had agreed to marry him just for his money.

However, Kolton consented. He fully intended to divorce her as soon as the two years were up.

Valentina continued reading the agreement. The last clause of the agreement stated that they couldn't be intimate with each other during their marriage.

Kolton had specifically highlighted this point to indicate its importance.

"What is the meaning of this?" Valentina asked in confusion.

Kolton explained, "We're getting married by agreement, which makes this a nominal marriage. Don't try to get intimate with me during this period. I won't touch you."

Valentina finally understood what he meant. She flushed and rolled her eyes at him.

"Don't worry. I'm not attracted to you. You'd better control yourself. If you ever touch me, I won't spare you."

Kolton's expression darkened. "I won't touch you."

"You'd better keep your word!"

After signing the agreement, they went to get their marriage registered, ignoring each other on the way.

When they arrived at City Hall, for a moment, the staff thought they had come to the wrong place. It looked like they were here for a divorce, not to get married.

After getting the marriage certificate, Kolton took Valentina back to his grandfather's place.

Lorenzo grinned widely as he studied their marriage certificate.

He adored Valentina and deeply cared about her.

"Now that you're married, you're a member of the Pearson family. If anyone dares to create trouble for you in the future, just inform Kolton. He will deal with it. And if Kolton upsets you, come to me. You will always have my support."

Warmth enveloped Valentina when she heard this.

Although she didn't like Kolton, she felt that his grandfather was a good man.

"Okay. Thank you."

"Silly girl, we are family now. You don't need to thank me."

When Valentina went to the backyard to feed the fish, Kolton couldn't stop himself from asking, "Who the hell is she?"

Lorenzo watched Kolton with narrowed eyes and asked, "Didn't you have her investigated?"

Kolton acquiesced wordlessly.

Lorenzo gazed at Valentina's back in the yard and smiled kindly.

"She is well-protected."

Kolton became even more intrigued. "Who is protecting her?"

Lorenzo remained silent.

Kolton persisted, "I'm married to her now. You don't need to hide anything from me."

Lorenzo shook his head.

"Yes, you're married to her. But this marriage is only going to last for two years. If you promise me that you will never divorce Valentina for as long as you live, I will tell you everything."

Kolton was at a loss for words. His resolve to divorce Valentina was stronger than his curiosity.

This young woman was so rebellious and troublesome!

Lorenzo said, "The right time hasn't arrived yet. Let's revisit this conversation when you develop feelings for each other. Alas..."

Lorenzo inhaled deeply, his expression turning serious.

"Look at her. She's happy all the time because she's well taken care of. She has no clue about anything yet. If she finds out, I'm afraid she will never know happiness again. In fact, Valentina is very pitiful, more pitiful than any other person you know. Kolton, don't make things difficult for her. Treat her well."

Kolton asked in a baffled voice, "Why is she so pitiful? What is she unaware of?"

Lorenzo sighed and shook his head, signaling to Kolton to stop with his questions.
