Chapter 5 Why Does It Feel Just Like That Night

Due to the influence of the alcohol, Thalia's reactions became sluggish. She barely had the time to react when that repugnant man's touch suddenly disappeared, followed by a horrendous scream from Claud.

"Ah! My hand!"

His blood-curdling scream jolted everyone in the private room back to sobriety.

Only then did they grasp the gravity of the situation. Brayan, with a fierce look in his eye, had a vice-like grip on Claud's hand, bending it so far back that it appeared as if his bones were on the verge of breaking.

Seeing Claud's hand twisted and deformed under Brayan's grip, the other people in the room could tangibly feel Claud's pain.

Claud cried out for mercy, tears and snot running down his face. "Mr. Rogers-please! I didn't do anything! Please let me go! I didn't do anything!"

"You 'didn't do anything', huh? Then what exactly were you planning to do?" Brayan's tone remained cold and composed, as though they were simply talking about the weather, but the look on his face betrayed his fury, and his grip on Claud's hand tightened further.

All the color drained from Claud's face as he screamed in agony. "I wasn't... I wasn't planning to do anything... Okay, okay, I know I was wrong! Please forgive me!"

Brayan sneered at Claud disdainfully, "Next time, think twice before you do anything."

With that, Brayan let go of Claud and used a tissue to wipe his hands clean, as though he had just touched a disgusting piece of trash. Then he took Thalia, who was still in a state of shock, and left the private room.

Thalia followed him in a daze, still reeling from what just happened.

She thought she knew her husband; he was supposed to be a cold, indifferent womanizer. But she had no idea he possessed such a ruthless side, let alone that it would emerge to protect her.

Thalia stared at the man before her, struggling to understand what kind of person he truly was. However, as she struggled to gaze at him, her vision grew hazy.

"Are you drunk?" Brayan stopped in his tracks to glance at Thalia. Before he could get an answer, the woman collapsed into his arms like a ragdoll.

Brayan let out a helpless sigh, but he still gently scooped her up and carried her to the passenger seat of his car.

He had no idea where Thalia lived, nor did he know who he could contact to pick her up, so he opted to take her back to his place.

Soon, the car pulled to a stop in front of Serenity Manor, one of the most lavish mansions in Swynford.

Brayan got out of the car and trotted over to the passenger seat, carefully scooping Thalia into his arms once more. She stirred a little, as though roused from a deep slumber. She nestled against the man's chest snugly, wrapping her arms around his neck to steady herself.

Brayan's throat went dry as he gazed at the woman in his arms, her lips shimmering under the moonlight. Blood surged to his lower body as desire sparked within him.

To prevent things from spiraling out of control, he hurried to carry her into the bedroom and then gently laid her on the bed.

Her scent, mixed with the sickly-sweet smell of alcohol, filled his nose, and he couldn't help but reminisce. Unwanted desires coursed through his body, consuming him like wildfire, and the memory of that night filled his mind.

Brayan shook his head to banish those thoughts, fearing he might lose control of himself. He made up his mind to take a cold shower, but Thalia, in her drunken state, unintentionally reached for his tie and tugged on it.

Caught completely off guard, Brayan lost his balance and ended up falling on top of her.

Their lips were mere inches apart, and as he breathed in her alluring scent and the subtle hint of alcohol from her slightly parted lips, he felt something in his lower body pulsating.

Wait a second... How come this felt so similar to that night?

Brayan took a few deep breaths to maintain his composure. After shooting one last glance at the woman underneath him, he quickly lifted himself off of Thalia and headed to the bathroom.

---

The following morning, Thalia woke up to a throbbing headache.

She had a terrible hangover, thanks to last night.

But her hangover was the least of her problems; as she glanced around at the unfamiliar surroundings, she quickly became vigilant.

"You're awake?" Brayan, wearing nothing but a bath towel around his waist, emerged from the bathroom, his eyes holding a hint of amusement as he looked at the dazed Thalia.

Thalia bit her lip nervously. Did she have another one-night stand with her soon-to-be ex-husband?

Brayan saw just how anxious she looked, which he found amusing. He couldn't help but tease her, saying, "Why so nervous? I'm not going to eat you."

Thalia looked down and breathed a sigh of relief when she realized she was still fully clothed, wearing the same clothes from the previous day. In an irritated tone, she retorted, "Mr. Rogers, you have quite the reputation, so it's only natural I'm cautious around you."

"Oh, is that so?" Brayan leaned against the wall, a deep, hoarse chuckle escaping from his throat. "Don't worry. Last night, nothing happened between us. It's not that I have incredible self-control, but you're just not my type."

Thalia refused to be teased like this. She shot him a defiant look and retorted sharply, "That's because you have bad taste, Mr. Rogers."

By now, she had a fuzzy recollection of the events from last night.

After thinking for a while, she grew serious. "Mr. Rogers, thank you for helping me last night. But I think that once we're off work, we shouldn't have any further interactions."

Brayan listened quietly and didn't respond; he felt like Thalia had more to say.

However, Thalia decided to drop the matter and got out of bed. She thanked Brayan once more and then left his house.

As she left, Brayan couldn't help but smile.

It seemed that things were getting more and more interesting.

--

Monday morning arrived, and Thalia did her best to act as though nothing had happened.

She went about her usual tasks, delivering coffee and some documents to Brayan's office.

"Mr. Rogers, here's your schedule for this week." Thalia set the cup of coffee down and then showed him the calendar on her tablet.

Just then, the glass door to the CEO's office suddenly swung open.

Both Brayan and Thalia looked up in surprise.

A woman dressed head to toe in designer clothing strutted inside the office, her high heels clicking against the tile floor.

"Sabina? How did you find this place?" Brayan asked, his expression darkening slightly.
