Chapter 5 The needed rescue

Mia feared that the knocking might disturbed her neighbors so he asked Liam to hide in the bedroom for a few minutes. Liam reluctantly took his phone and entered Mia's bedroom.

Mia then responded and ushered her colleagues in, she served them with water and some home made cookies. They asked about her condition and how she was feeling now. They also apologized for not coming earlier due to the pressure at work. "We miss you so much" said one of her colleagues. They chatted about random stuff for a while until some brought the topic of Liam up." Guys don't you think Liam has been acting weird lately, he shouts happily and greets us when he comes to work off late and the other time he even sat with us during lunch", another colleague asked. " Or guys, do you think he is sick? I heard from my grandmother that when people are sick and have just a few days to live, they tend to be nicer to people before finally leaving this world", another added. They all laughed loudly at the last person's guess.Mia who knew Liam was in the bedroom was so uncomfortable with the discussion at hand and quickly changed the subject.

Liam heard his workers talk about his sudden change, he was fed up with their discussions and decided to look around Mia's room. He saw Mia's old pictures album, he flipped through the pages and saw her childhood pictures. She was actually really beautiful as she told him, dressed in fine and expensive clothing, she seemed more happy in her old pictures than recently. He also saw a picture of Mia's parents with a writing at the back of that same picture, "appreciate the people you love while you have the chance" . It suddenly dawned on Liam that he had been ignoring the grandmother's call and messages for some months now. Liam paternal grandmother, Miss Lizzy loved him so much and Liam is also very fond of her, he always feel like a child when he is around her, she is the only one that Liam listen to and obeys but, for some few months, Liam keeps ignoring Miss Lizzy's calls because she keeps nagging Liam to go and look for the father. Growing up Liam lived happily with his mother and father, he was the only child whom the parents loved and provided everything for. Liam thought he had a perfect home and parent until he came from school one day and saw the father hitting the mother, the mom was bleeding profusely but the dad still kept hitting her, young as he was, he felt very helpless and hid in his room. The parents who thought that Liam didn't see them earlier pretended to be a perfect couple again. When young Liam returned from school the next day,her mother packed out without even leaving him a note. From that day Liam detested the father and moved to his grandmother's place.

Liam was in a deep thought when Mia came to the room and informed Liam that her colleagues are all gone now." Is that how you people talk and think about me", Liam asked while walking to the sitting room to have his sit. "Your sudden change is very obvious for someone not to notice",Mia replied and laughed.

The next day, Mia went to work dressed up in all her elements, her colleagues were happy for her including Liam. Mia had a load of work due to her absence from work during her sick days. She set some target for herself to accomplish before going home that day.Working hours were over but Mia still wasn't done so she stayed back to spend some extra hours before going home.

Liam on the other hand was still in his office planning on how to go about her confession to Mia.He finally came out of his office and walked towards Mia, as soon as he mentioned Mia name, someone opened the door, it was one of the workers. "You are still here Mia", he asked," I misplaced my key and I think I dropped it somewhere in the office".

Mia then turned to Liam and asked why he called her."Nothing,I didn't call you ,I was rather talking on the phone", Liam replied.

"Thank God, here is my key", the worker shouted," I can drop you home if you are done Mia, he added". "That will be so great, let me put the screen off and let go", Mia replied. She finished everything, said goodbye to Liam and left with the colleague. Liam was so bored at himself for telling Mia he was on call instead of admitting that he actually called her. On his way home he was guessing what kind of conversation Mia could possibly be having with the other colleagues.

Light shown once again at Liam's Tech Company,Mia was hurriedly finishing her daily task.

"Why are you so stressed out Mia?" Asked one of her colleagues. "I have a reunion with my classmates from high school and it's really freaking me out. You know, you need to look good, portray a lifestyle that seems comfortable and I can't be absent".

Mia left work early that day,she got home, dressed and set off to the restaurant where the reunion was. She was a little tense when she saw her classmates from afar chatting and laughing." Here comes our most beautiful Mia", exclaimed one of the old classmates. Mia smile shyly, sat down and greeted them.They started remembering their school days, the funny moments and the serious ones as well.It was all fun until Vivi, a lady who always saw Mia as a competition during their high school asked Mia "I guess you are have established a multi million company now or at least be holding a reputable position at a renowned company?".Mia who was lost of words finally find some courage and reply, actually, 'I work as a secretary at a tech company". Everyone was shocked because Mia was a very promising student back in school, she was always best at everything she does and due to that she won so many favors from teachers. Vivi laughed so loud and said," who would have taught, okay, tell us, are you at least married or dating because, I,Vivi, i am married to a well to do business man,with two adorable babies". Everyone's attention was now fixed on Mia, who was all tense and worked out.

She was about to say something when a very deep voice interrupted,"I am Mia's boyfriend".
