Chapter 5 Pretend To Be Obedient In Front Of Him

In the quiet depths of the night, not a single car traversed the desolate road. Thea, with no other options, had to listen to him and run across the street. "What a surprise!"

She greeted Colton with a bright smile.

"Is it really a surprise?"

Colton questioned, restraining his anger.

If it wasn't for this chance encounter, how could he have discovered that the woman he would marry wasn't as obedient as he thought?

"You're here for me?"

Thea deduced, recalling the unpaid balance that still hung over her. Given the luxury of his car and his fine attire, she concluded he rented such extravagances to appear rich.

"What were you up to just now?" Colton asked, his tone ice-cold.

"Just now?" Thea contemplated for a moment. "You were at the bar too?"

She thought it wasn't easy making a living as a male escort in a nightclub; he must have been there to await his "clients" for the night.

"I was in a scuffle," Thea answered, recalling her mission.

But she immediately corrected herself, "Making some money, sir." Thea's eyes gleamed as she addressed Colton. He introduced himself in a deep, somber voice. "My name is Colton."

"Oh, I know!"

Thea replied cheerfully.

"Mag-"

Colton began to speak but was interrupted as Thea's phone chimed in her pocket. She retrieved it, checked the caller ID, and signaled to Colton to keep quiet.

"Hello, Greyson," Thea answered the call. This conversation showcased a completely different side of her.

"I'm at Starbucks, working on an art project with my classmates," Thea said, putting on a convincing act.

"Alright, I'll be waiting for you by the entrance."

With a heavy heart, she hung up the phone. The Reynolds family had sent someone to pick her up rather quickly.

With no other option, Thea reluctantly resorted to marrying into the Reynolds family. When she raised her head and saw Colton studying her intently, she pursed her lips and feigned a smile. "My..."

She didn't want to admit the marriage and her husband, and she didn't want the man in front of her to look down upon her.

"My family is picking me up."

There was no need for further explanation. Their relationship mustn't develop further. "What's your bank account? I'll transfer the rest of the money to you."

"Tell me your phone number," Colton said, taking a closer look at Thea and realizing she intended to pay him for their night together. His face darkened.

After providing her number, Thea remembered something crucial.

"Sir, I need to do something in your car."

With that, she retrieved a dress from her bag and slipped into the car to change.

Having foreseen her predicament, she had carried a dress with her when she left home. As she opened the car door, Thea emerged wearing a snow-white dress with her long hair cascading elegantly.

She appeared entirely docile—a mirror image of the woman Colton had seen in the photo.

"Goodbye!"

Ignoring Colton's perplexed gaze, Thea waved and dashed towards Starbucks.

Colton remained still, watching as she disappeared into the distance. Leaning against the car, he lit a cigarette, taking a moment to calm himself.

As he stepped into the vehicle, a faint fragrance still lingered—a scent that belonged to the girl who had occupied his thoughts. Checking his phone, he began driving back to Emerald Mansion.

Meanwhile, Greyson had been back to Emerald Mansion with "Maggie". Just as he was about to call Colton, he heard commotion outside the door. A man strode in from the darkness, emitting an aura of coldness that discouraged anyone from drawing near.

Greyson was taken aback. "Mr. Reynolds, Miss Russell is upstairs."

He felt that Mr. Reynolds appeared to be aware that he had taken Miss Russell back.

"Alright!" Colton replied, proceeding upstairs.

Greyson suppressed his curiosity and departed from the villa.

The spacious villa was eerily quiet, with only two people present upstairs. The corridor lights illuminated Colton's path as he swiftly approached the bedroom door.

Entering the room, Colton found it devoid of light. Once the door closed behind him, the room plunged into darkness, obscuring his view. He couldn't discern anything in the room or the figure beneath the blanket on the bed.

For Thea, the only member of the Reynolds family she'd ever encountered was Greyson.

Upon her arrival, she hadn't had the chance to explore Emerald Mansion, a lavish villa in Houburg. Instead, she had gone upstairs to her room, extinguished the lights, and cocooned herself beneath a thick quilt. She had heard voices outside after a short while and wisely removed an ashtray from the bedside table, concealing it within her quilt.

As the approaching footsteps grew nearer, the door swung open. Lying motionless in bed, Thea clutched the ashtray, ready to strike if Mr. Reynolds dared to mistreat her.

Regardless of how Mr. Reynolds appeared, she was prepared to defend herself should he prove to be anything other than the gentleman she expected.
