Chapter 2 A difficult choice

My feet still tapping the floor as I turned to the doctor with tears

" Doctor, my friends boyfriend was the one who hit her into a pulp, I hit him with such a heavy table. Please I need you to follow me to make sure his not dead, I won't be able to forgive myself"

I said holding his hands, he shook his head smiling

" Okay but he needs to be jailed for this, I'll call my friend his in the military, he'll follow us there"

He said as I stood up showing my appreciation. Soon accompanied with his friend we were at the house, Hunter his military friend got into the house checking if David was still alife

" His breathing"

Hunter said as he lifted him up and got him into the truck going to the hospital but promising me he would be arrested immediately he gets strong for domestic violence. The bus going back to bayelsa stopped as I came down, I boarded a Keke and went to my uncle's place, he was surprised to see me at home

" Irane what are you doing here?"

He asked as I gnashed my tooth looking for the perfect lie to give

" Uncle, my school fees,I need it"

I said looking down, he sighed asking me to follow him into his office, he sat down opening his drawer that was filed with bunch of money

" Take it and return to school tomorrow, I don't want you missing classes. You need a first class if you ever want to get a good employment in this country"

Uncle said whilst I shook my head, I looked at the drawer and went upstairs to my room. I sat down thinking of a way to save Sonia from her present state. After having dinner I went into my room thinking of the best way to take the money from the drawer . The night was dark enough and since it was only the three of us in the house I went into his drawer and took all the money inside and immediately ran away at the dead of the night.

Sonia POV

Things with David got so intense, he refused to let me out of the house to even attend lectures, the day I tried escaping from home to go away he caught me and I knew that was the end of my life.

" Today you're finished"

David yelled pushing me into the hot gas top, I screamed yelling for help whilst he began to strangle my neck with his belt buckle

" Da....v .Id p.....lea...se "

I pleaded with the blood flowing from my neck, my eyes red as I looked at Ira ran in hitting him hard with a table as I lost consciousness. I flicked my eyes open and close as I looked at Ira sitting next to me, she had on a purple dress

" Where's David, that bastard!"

I asked with annoyance

" His in jail, I got him arrested, you don't need to worry he will never hurt you ever again"

She said holding my hands with a weary look, I wondered why she was so sad

" How did you get money for my treatment?"

I asked still holding on to her hands, she looked at me speechless for some moments, she took her hands away getting up

" Don't worry about that"

Ira said not feeling comfortable, we stopped talking and listening to the loud noises from outside

" This is the ward of her friend"

Doctor Paul said as immediately some corps came along with a man who was perhaps in his late fifties, he was so angry that he gave Ira a very hot slap

" How could you, I raised you and took care of you, you're nobody without me, if not for me you're a nobody and you still had the guts to steal from me, you're an ungrateful fool!"

The man shouted as I tried getting up to save Irane from his harsh words

" Uncle I'm sorry, I needed to do it. I'm sorry, uncle"

I watched Irane plead on the floor with tears, the man looked away covering his face

" Take her away"

He shouted immediately leaving the room while the police took Ira along with them

" Irane!"

I screamed as I was injected me to sleep.

IRa POV

When I'd stolen the money from my uncle, I had immediately given the required amounts to the doctor for treatment. I sat down looking at Sonia, she was my best friend and my world, I could move mountains just to protect her from anyone who dares to hurt her. When she finally woke up I was deeply happy yet I wish she could stop asking about how and where I got the money from

" Don't worry about that"

I said not feeling comfortable, the noise from outside was large and my uncle was the last person I ever wanted to see as they dragged me to the nearest station

" This thief here stole my money, how could you, Ira, this is not your parents wish for you useless life!"

He yelled while I just kept quiet looking at him with tears, I just wanted him to pardon me and understand my short coming

" Did you take the money or not?"

A corp yelled hitting the table so hard that my heart skipped a thousand beats

" Yes, please forgive me uncle, I'm sorry, I just wanted to save my friend, please uncle, you know I'd never do anything to hurt you intentionally, please"

I begged on my knees holding his trousers, my uncle was not a harsh man, he was like a father to me even if he never showed it I knew he loved

" Lock her up"

He uttered walking out of the station

" Uncle please, uncle please, please, uncle!"

I screamed watching his back fade away

Hunter POV

I picked up my gown from the table while heading towards the door, I'm Hunter Rez a captain of the Nigerian Army, my work for years have been honest and nothing illegal. I just returned from the united states' where I've been staying for three months since my last arrest happened, I couldn't still believe men would beat even girlfriends, I personally threw that David into prison. My friend couldn't stop bothering me about meeting me as I headed to his working place.

" Hey Paul"

I said shaking my friend

" I need you to do me a favor!"

Paul said as I shook my head following him into the patient ward, I could still remember her face, the bruised up lady

" Sir, please help us, my friend shes in jail because of me, I can't do anything to help her out. It's been four months sir, please help her"

Sonia begged about going on her knees when Paul held her back

" Your friend?, That light skinned lady with long dark hair?"

I asked describing the beautiful lady that followed me to that house

" Why?, How?"

I asked as she explained everything to me, I took in a deep breathe, was such friendship still in existence, how could she make such sacrifices for someone who she's not even related to

" Hunter please, help her. I've only known her for a short while but that girl is a good girl, if I'd known they were coming to arrest her, I wouldn't have let them in"

Paul said with all sincerity

" I'll do my best" I said leaving the ward.

Ira POV

Four months past and yet nobody to come to my aid, they only gave me food once a day and give me hard labor every time. It was almost evening when a jeep pulled down, I heard the police salute as the steps came closer

" Ira "

I heard him say as I turned my head to look at him, of course it's been long but I couldn't forget the face of someone who saved my friend, I stood up without energy holding the bars

" I'm innocent"

I cried faintly as he wipes off my tears with his handkerchief

" Release her!"

He ordered as a police officer immediately ran to him

" But sir,she committed an offense, she stole"

He barked as Hunter gave him a deaf slap

" How did you know she stole?, Did the accuser press charges against her, do you know it's illegal to lock up someone without taking them to court for more than four months?, I can call the general right now and you'll would lose your jobs or, just for the sake of God you release her right this instance and I'll let this slide away. Do you want to play it the easy way or the hard way?"

Hunter asked as they immediately opened up the bars

" Thank you"

I muttered immediately losing consciousness
