Chapter 4 Misunderstanding

Elias hadn't expected to encounter Scarlett here of all places.

The girl he had met earlier in the day, with her flowing locks and radiant smile, seemed like a different person in this lively bar.

Kyle Wright, wearing a cheerful grin, casually draped his arm around Justin's shoulder in a friendly manner.

Justin responded with a smile and said, "Mr. Wright, what a coincidence."

Kyle introduced him to Elias enthusiastically, "This is my fashion designer, Justin White. He's amazing. Every time he designs clothes for me, he can perfectly capture my style."

Justin modestly accepted the praise, saying with a grin, "Mr. Wright, you're too kind. You can make anything look good. You're a natural."

As Scarlett silently observed the reserved Elias, she couldn't help but compare Elias to Justin. In her mind, she found Elias more deserving of the compliment Justin had just bestowed upon Kyle.

Kyle then turned his attention to Scarlett and winked. "Hi there, I'm Kyle Wright."

He pointed at Elias, adding, "And this is my friend."

Scarlett met Elias's gaze and greeted him with a graceful smile, "Hello, Mr. Roberts."

Elias felt a flutter in his chest as he nodded at her.

Kyle's eyes lit up in an instant. He rubbed his chin in curiosity and teased, "You two know each other? This guy usually doesn't pay attention to women. How did you manage to catch his eye?"

Scarlett explained, "I'm Zayne's new tutor. I just met Mr. Roberts today."

Kyle's initial excitement faded a bit.

He had momentarily hoped that Elias, who had shown no interest in women for so long, had finally found someone who captured his attention.

Quickly regaining his composure, Kyle suggested, "Since we all know each other now, why don't we have some fun together?"

The four of them sat down, and Kyle produced a deck of cards. He asked, "You all know how to play poker, right?"

Justin nodded, and Scarlett, although not an avid poker player, didn't want to refuse at this moment, so she nodded as well.

Elias lightly tapped his fingers on the table and casually remarked, "Enough talk. Let's start."

Kyle, noticing Elias's rare good mood, eagerly began dealing the cards.

At the end of the first round, Scarlett found herself on the losing side. She couldn't help but feel dejected.

How unlucky she was!

Kyle chuckled when he noticed Scarlett's disappointment. "It's just the first round. Don't worry."

As per the rules, Scarlett needed to take a drink since she was the loser of the round.

Justin reached for the glass in front of her and offered, "She can't drink, so I'll help her."

Kyle had no objections. "Sure."

Justin downed the contents of Scarlett's glass in one gulp. Scarlett frowned and cautioned him, "Don't drink so fast."

"What? Feeling sorry for him?" Kyle joked.

Elias' eyes shimmered with an inscrutable glimmer, though his calm expression gave away nothing.

As Scarlett's losing streak continued in the following rounds, she grew increasingly frustrated. She couldn't help but suspect that Kyle might be dealing the cards unfairly, so she insisted on someone else taking over the card dealing duty.

But even with Elias as the dealer, her luck remained unchanged.

Kyle commented with a cheerful tone, "You seem to have some serious bad luck today."

Justin, who had consumed more than ten glasses of wine, raised his hand enthusiastically and shouted, "Keep it coming!"

Scarlett noticed Justin's increasingly inebriated state and urgently reached out to pull his sleeve. "You can't drink anymore," she said.

But Justin brushed her hand away, his speech slurred. "I'm fine! Let's keep going! I... I don't believe my sweetheart could be this unlucky!"

Elias, unmoved by Justin's outburst, calmly placed the deck of cards on the table.

Scarlett felt a growing sense of helplessness as she tried to coax the intoxicated Justin, saying, "Okay, okay, we won't play anymore. It's time for you to go home and rest. If you keep drinking like this, you'll definitely have a terrible hangover tomorrow."

Justin protested, "No! I'm not going home! Why should I go home? I am not drunk!"

Scarlett sighed deeply, her brow furrowing. If it weren't for the fact that Justin had been drinking on her behalf, she might have been tempted to knock some sense into him!

Kyle misinterpreted the situation, assuming Scarlett was concerned about her drunken boyfriend.

He leaned over to Elias and whispered, "Look at them, they really are a couple of lovebirds."

Then he poked Elias. "What about you? What's going on with you? You're married, but you act like a bachelor! Don't you feel anything when you see a loving couple?"

Elias glanced at Scarlett and Justin, then averted his gaze, maintaining his composure.

Observing the affectionate interaction between Scarlett and Justin, Elias couldn't help but feel a pang of longing. Somehow, he envied the closeness and natural affection they displayed.

At that moment, he recalled his promise to his grandmother.

Perhaps he had misunderstood his wife. Otherwise, why would his grandmother be so fond of her?

With this thought in mind, Elias took out his phone, found his wife's number, and sent her a message, expressing his desire to meet with her tonight.

Simultaneously, Scarlett was struggling to help the now unconscious Justin stand up.

As Elias's message was sent, Scarlett's phone on the table emitted a brief notification sound, indicating an incoming text message.
