Chapter 5 Pack House

Chapter 5

The main gates to the mansion opened and Nevan expected it to be Persia along with the girl. He left his study and went out to see them.

Persia already led her to the living room but did not follow her, he had been assigned some work by Nevan earlier and had to complete that.

Elsa was quiet the whole time, her eyes taking in the picture of everything in the Mansion, first of all, they lived a few miles out of town and the Mansion was situated in the forest, it make her wonder what kind of men they were.

The living room was decorated in Romanesque-style architecture. Painted in Grey color, it had four wide luxurious chairs set to round the small table in the middle of the room and a huge king-sized chair at one end which screamed of prominence, the carpet on the floor showed an illustration of a lot of people, it almost felt as if she was stepping on a whole village so she withdrew her feet to the chair. There was a fireplace at the right end of the room. She wondered if this was the place she would be staying, it looked exceptionally beautiful.

She kept on drinking in the beauty of the room and did not notice the pair of hazel eyes behind those round huge spectacles watching her for quite a while until she heard his footstep as he took the stairs. He was wearing casual sweatpants and a sweater while holding a book in his left hand.

He said nothing, just stared confidently into her eyes and it made her uncomfortable and she was quick to look away. Nevan continued to scan her, he found one thing which irked him, he hated the fabric she wore and that color, ish...

"Your dress..." He began.

"Thank you," she replied, her cheek was already get flushed red thinking he was going to compliment it.

"No, You should change your dress," he uttered and she thought it was weird, she just got here and secondly, she made sure to change into her best outfit before coming here along with his assistant.

It was a yellow and white check kneel-length flare dress, hanging a small black bag across her shoulder and a pair of black Snickers along with her hair tied up into a ponytail. She believed it made her look smart.

"Why?" she asked.

"I don't like it. it looks like the old napkins used in wiping the windows of the mansion and it makes you look more ugly." he elaborated, his face showing nothing but seriousness, he loved being honest with people even if they felt hurt by it.

"..." She did not know what to reply at first. He was rude to comment badly on her dress and her appearance and also, she wanted to let him know that she wouldn't be changing it anytime soon. It was one of the best dresses in her wardrobe which made her get a lot of compliments anytime she wore it.

"I will show you to your room so you can take off the rag, there are suitable clothes for you in the closet... at least, you can look more- lady-like, I guess," he said, making an obvious look as he eyed her sarcastically. He forced a quick smile and then turned around, climbing the stairs and expecting her to follow him.

"Where are my things? I have other clothes I can change into," she looked around while asking him, her eyes were searching for the luggage she packed along with her.

"I asked the driver to trash them. they are all a bunch of rags. I was wondering if you were blind, wearing such haggard clothes, no wonder you never got a decent job." he added.

For a man, he talked a lot. She felt like whacking him from behind.

"C'mon then." she followed behind him until he come to a stop in front of a room, it was ajar.

"Change into something nice. See you at dinner, Ms-" he continued staring at his watch, there were five hours until dinner.

"Henderson." She completed.

"Goodbye then." He turned around and walked away.

She felt he was the strangest person she'd ever met, he had conversations in the weirdest ways. She shrugged before closing the door from the inside.

Nevan went back to his study. He had so much work and there was little time for all of it to be completed.

He brought out pieces of folded parchment paper and then started to unfold them. they all made no sense at first until he figured out how to arrange them, they were eight in number and they were marked in order by all the eight types of the moon.

He put them in order with the two new moons at the head and there was a huge map. Nevan studied the map for a while and found out that it had something to do with the community they lived in.

He was still focused on the map when Persia knocked on the door once.

"Come in." He heard Nevan's deep voice from inside. he pulled the knob and pushed the door open, the Alpha was staring at papers that were spread on the desk.

He had to look twice to understand that it was a whole map of the city they were living in and it extended to some other places outside the city which had a werewolf population. Persia was curious, he stretched himself to see clearly.

"You should ask what is this? You are no stranger." Nevan spoke.

"It's a map to all the werewolf communities around the North. want to know where I found it?" he asked and answered almost immediately, "I found it on my way, the last time I visited the south. In an old library. That place reeked of dead bodies. like there was a war there some time ago." he commented.

Nevan had the habit of collecting things. while he was traveling, he found the library, there was an older man there and it felt strange that the place reeked of dead bodies while the outer view was cleaner than anything. It turns out that the man was placed there to preserve the bodies. they were kept there for some form of experiment. when the old man threatened his life, he eventually killed him and while scrolling past the books in the library, he found the old folded papers, he opened them and read the content which had a huge map skillfully drawn by an unknown person.

A map of the north and small werewolf communities which spilled out to the south, he also found out that the author was an unknown traveler and he decided to take it with him as it was harmful to leave such a dangerous weapon still lying around in the library along with some other books he found interesting.

He leaned to the table, marking some vital areas with a pen, He still couldn't understand what the owner of the map wanted to do with these lands. One of the most meaningless places in their city was marked with sharp ink, and it was the first thing that caught his interest when he found the map. An old pottery town. Currently, the lands there were sold for unbelievable prices since they had no value.

"What do we do with the girl, Persia?" he asked, not sparing a glance at his beta. His eyes were still fixated on the map, Nevan stretched his hand to his back pocket and brought out a packet of cigarette and a lighter. He lit it quickly, coughing as the smoke passed the wrong pipe. He looked at his hand, there again... He was coughing out blood.

"Why do you damage your body? You already know that you don't need cigarettes in this state," Persia asked with concern.

"It doesn't matter as I am still I'm going to die anyway. Answer my question, what do we do with the girl?"

Persia shook his head in pity, "It's easy Alpha Nevan. You should accept her as your mate for the time, bond with her. Once you finally become intimate and she takes your seed in her and has the child, we will send her away. Madam Celestine will be in control of the child till it's able to take over the pack."

He nods in agreement.

"I will be out for a few days, you will watch over her and the mansion, and remember, she is not allowed to leave for any reason. Our plans should go smoothly."

"And what about our plans Alpha? Tyeinvasion of the Mountain lions pack?"

"It has been postponed. It will happen on the night of the Seventh moon of the next four seasons and I won't be there to witness it." He moved from the table to check one of the old drawers, searching for something till he found it. it was a small journal.

"I want a massacre. I would like to see those assholes in hell." he gave out a deranged laugh and then brought the journal in front of Persia.

"Alpha, why would you postpone it? You said-"

"It would be a waste to plan this big all for nothing. They should be expecting us at this time. It's been seven long years and we haven't paid them properly, I don't want another mistake like the last time."

"This here is my order. Every single order which would be passed down after my death I am writing here. You are going to run the pack for a while until the next Alpha has risen, Persia. The Moon Goddess has chosen not to help me with my curse but it wouldn't stop me from keeping my people safe."

He pats Persia's shoulder before leaving the room.

For the next few days, Nevan vanished from the mansion and Elsa felt strange. She spent her days mentally preparing herself for the first night. She knew it was going to happen, but they hadn't given her half the amount they promised, was this all a scam?

When she arrived here, she hoped they would get everything done quickly but he wasn't here, and on the third day, she decided to ask questions. She found Nevan's Beta, Persia doing his usual routine patrol and decided to ask questions.

"Can I ask you something?" she said, moving an inch closer to Persia. He paused and waited for her to speak.

"Where did your boss go?" she asked.

"He's out for some work, want something?" he asked back and she shook her head quickly, thinking of how not to sound doubting or rude even though she was already doubting their intentions.

They hadn't harmed her already, but she wasn't a telepathist either, it was not easy to read Persia's thoughts, he always wore a stern face and was always roaming around the mansion morning and night, aimlessly. Who would come to hunt this set of people who lived far away from town in the thick forest?

"But, I was wondering, it's been four days now and I haven't seen him, including the money he promised to send, I haven't received any of it, what if all these turn out to be lies? I cannot afford to lose the money your boss promised me."

"What is it? Did you want to get pregnant that quick?"

"Why would I? You people look fraudulent and you act strange, which normal person decides to live in the forest? You promised me half the money, that's the reason why I followed you in the first place." She sneered

"You should keep your mouth shut, or I'll have to prove you right," Persia said with a disgusting look on his face.

"You have no right to speak about anything, you are just here to give Nevan a child and then leave, he will dictate what happens here, get it? and if you decide to speak about everything you see, then you'd be a real threat to us and maybe Nevan wouldn't stop me from harming you then."

Her doe-like eyes were fearful, she did not mean to say anything bad, she was just voicing her own opinion. She was already realizing her place here, she was nothing more than what they offered her to be.

she melted inwardly, maybe they hated questions, but she wouldn't ask any more questions then.

She was going to turn around and leave when she heard Nevan's voice and it was too familiar not to remember, he made bad comments about her dress that day.

Where was he in the last few days?

"Great answer there, Persia." Nevan praised his beta. "Why would you think there's anyone out there who wants to defraud you, you're already so weak and helpless." He tsked. Maybe I should have let those people take you with them, you'd learn to appreciate more."
