Chapter 7 The Invitation

Smiling gently, Maggie said softly, "Miss Wright, I didn't know what you like to eat, so I just picked out random fruits. I hope you like them."

As she spoke, she stepped back to stand beside Franklyn.

The two looked like a perfect match. Seeing them together looking so harmonious upset Cassidy. She looked away and glanced at the basket of fruits Maggie had brought, gradually calming down.

Then she put on a polite smile and said, "Thank you, Miss Valdez. All the fruits you brought are my favorites."

Tyrone, who had been watching the fun for some time, finally put an end to it. He cut in and said, "I'll get going first. Miss Wright, don't hesitate to send the contract to my office."

"We're leaving too. We'd better not disturb Miss Wright's rest," Maggie said with a smile and turned to Franklyn. "Franklyn, let's go and look for formal attire together!"

Hearing this, Franklyn cracked a faint smile, a strange sight on his usually serious face. He raised his hand and rubbed the tip of her nose dotingly. "Okay!"

Franklyn used to be a bit of a playboy, and Cassidy had seen countless women around him. However, this was the first time she had ever seen him pamper a woman so dotingly.

It seemed that Franklyn really loved Maggie.

When the couple was about to leave, Maggie patted herself on the head and smiled sheepishly. "Oh, silly me! I nearly forgot."

Then she pulled a red envelope from her bag and handed it to Cassidy. "Miss Wright, this is an invitation to our engagement party. You must come! Franklyn, don't you agree?"

After saying that, she tugged on Franklyn's arm, acting like a spoiled child.

Cassidy couldn't help but wonder if Maggie was showing off. She doubted Maggie didn't know about her shady relationship with Franklyn.

But Maggie's eyes were so pure and innocent that Cassidy was ashamed of even suspecting her.

Looking at the red envelope, Cassidy felt it was like a ticking time bomb.

"Okay, thanks for the invite." She paused for a second and took the envelope with a smile.

After they left, the room became quiet. Aside from the two bodyguards at the door, there was no one else but Cassidy.

Cassidy stared blankly at the invitation, lost in thought.

A little while later, Emely came to visit her. She brought some health supplements, saying that they were gifts from their colleagues.

After setting the gifts down, she looked at Cassidy with remorse. "I'm so sorry, Miss Wright. I never should've left you alone with that bastard! I can't imagine what would've happened if I hadn't met Mr. Pierce and Miss Valdez at that restaurant."

Speaking of this, Emely's face turned pale with worry again. She was still reeling from the scene she saw when she broke into the private room.

Cassidy patted her hand comfortingly. "Don't worry. Nothing serious happened. Just be smart next time."

Emely nodded remorsefully. Then she sat down and started peeling an apple for Cassidy. Suddenly, a thought occurred to Cassidy. "Did you say that you ran into Mr. Pierce and Miss Valdez? They just happened to be at the restaurant?"

"Yup." Emely nodded absentmindedly while peeling the apple.

"What happened to Alfred?" Cassidy asked after a while.

"Mr. Pierce had someone take him away." At the mention of Alfred, Emely's delicate face contorted in anger. "Why did you mention that scumbag's name? Just thinking about him makes me want to puke! I wish Mr. Pierce just threw him into shark-infested waters!"

Emely hated Alfred to her core. She had heard that Alfred had spiked the wine he made Cassidy drink. If Cassidy hadn't been smart enough to hurt herself yesterday, she would've been raped...

Cassidy fell silent, the gears in her mind turning quickly.

After all, she had graduated from a prestigious university. She wasn't an idiot.

How could there be such a coincidence in the world?

Ockmore was such a big city. How could Franklyn and Maggie happen to choose the very same restaurant Cassidy was supposed to meet Alfred?
