Chapter 5 The Coldest Insult

Olivia's face fell as soon as I said those words. A glint of displeasure flashed through her eyes. She pouted and turned to look at Elliott. Pulling the hem of his clothes, she said in a sad voice, "I shouldn't have barged into this house so late last night. I guess I disturbed you and Gianna. Please can you persuade her to have breakfast with us? I'd like to use it as my apology to her."

My eyes widened in shock.

For the thousandth time, I realized that Olivia was one lucky lady. She was one of the women who only had to act pitifully or coquettishly to get anything they wanted in the blink of an eye.

Elliott, who had been ignoring me since I came here, suddenly looked at me and said, "Let's have breakfast together."

His tone was harsh and authoritative.

It hurt a lot. However, I was already used to this pain.

"Okay, thank you," I intoned, forcing a smile.

Despite everything, I couldn't refuse Elliott. It was love at first sight for me when I met him. Perhaps I might never be able to get over him for the rest of my life.

Looking on the brighter side, I was kind of lucky today. This was the first time I'd be having the breakfast made by Elliott. It was a simple breakfast of toast, scrambled eggs, and coffee. However, it meant a lot to me. I never saw Elliott as someone who should involve himself in the kitchen. In my eyes, he was a favored man who was supposed to do great things like taking the world by storm. It took the presence of Olivia to make me realize that my husband of two years could actually cook. The irony!

"You should try the eggs Elliott made, Gianna. They taste heavenly. He always makes them for me whenever we are together," Olivia said as she put some on my plate.

Then she dished some for Elliott and said with a sweet smile, "Elliott, you promised to accompany me to see the flowers today. Don't break your promise, okay?"

"Okay," Elliott replied, taking a bite of his toast. He was a man of few words, but he never failed to respond to Olivia whenever she spoke to him.

Colton didn't seem surprised at these two people's behavior. He just ate his breakfast and watched the live drama.

I couldn't help frowning. Elliott and I already had plans. If he didn't follow me to the Crawford family's old mansion for his grandfather's funeral, what would his other family members say?

It was hard to swallow the food even though it tasted good. When I saw that Elliott finished his food and was going upstairs to get dressed, I set down my fork and followed him.

We entered the bedroom one after another.

"What do you want?" Elliott asked with his back to me.

The moment he took off his shirt, I saw his bare and sculpted back. I turned my back to him instinctively. "Have you forgotten that today is your grandpa's funeral?"

The next second, I heard the zapping sound of a zipper and then the rustling of clothes. He finally replied, "You can stand in for me."

"He was your grandfather!" I complained with a frown. It was pertinent that Elliott be there. After all, he was Lorenzo's grandchild. How could he miss his grandfather's funeral when all his other relatives would be there?

"I already assigned Parker to handle everything about the funeral. Talk with him about it and he will fill you in," Elliott said as if it wasn't his grandfather that was being buried.

Just as he was about to walk towards his study, I asked with a sad and high-pitched voice, "Elliott, does anyone else not matter to you except for Olivia? Is being with your family during this mourning period less important than going out with that woman?"

Elliott stopped dead in his tracks. He sharply turned back and shot me a murderous glare. "Since when did you have a say concerning the Crawford family's matters?"

After eyeing me from head to toe, he added with a disgusted expression, "Last I checked, you don't deserve to have a say!"

It was as if a basin of cold water was poured on me out of the blue. I shuddered for a moment.

A second later, I laughed with self-mockery as I stared at his receding figure.

Did he just say I didn't deserve to have a say?

Ha-ha! This was so funny!

For two whole years I had worked hard to soften Elliott's heart, but it appeared that his heart was more hardened than I had expected.

"I used to think you were only thick-skinned. Honestly, I'm surprised that you are also very nosy." A sneer suddenly came from the side.

Following the direction of the voice, I turned and saw Olivia leaning against the door frame with her arms folded. Her usual innocent expression was nowhere to be found. Now, she had a cold expression and eyes that could kill.
