Chapter 7 Huge Debt

A smug smile sat on Nicole's face as she looked at Arthur's tense expression.

She reasoned that it was a wise decision to have let him in here secretly.

It had taken her great efforts to find an imperfect thing about her rival. Brylee's biggest flaw was her father, who had a serious gambling problem.

What a shame! Nicole thought and laughed in her mind.

Beads of sweat were dripping down Arthur's brows now. He wiped his forehead and stuttered, "I said... I promised not to borrow money from loan sharks anymore."

"You lied to me, Arthur. It's even more annoying that you got worse. How dare you come here thinking you can fool me again!"

Davies gave him a thoughtful look. He tapped his index fingernail on the side of the glass for a handful of seconds. Suddenly, he let go of it.

The door swung open at the same time the glass hit the rug with a dull thud.

Arthur didn't notice the door open. He stared down as the water soaked the rug, leaving a dark patch. He imagined fading away into the great beyond; either by Davies' hands or that of the loan sharks.

"So, you have been begging Davies for money?" Brylee lost her cool as soon as she saw her father. She charged at him with her eyes brimming with rage.

Vincent, who had accompanied her, stood at the door until Davies signaled to him to close the door.

Nicole grunted softly and placed her hand on Davies' wheelchair. "Oh, stop pretending, Brylee. Weren't you the one who sent your father to beg for money? I doubt he came here on his own accord. You must have egged him on. Why are you acting like he did it behind your back? You are a bad actress!"

Brylee gave her the cold shoulder. Staring at her father, she asked, "How much do you owe him?"

Arthur scratched the back of his head. After a while, he replied, "I have no idea. Davies is a wealthy man, so all the money he gave me is chicken feed to him. It's not..."

Arthur's words trailed off when he locked eyes with Davies. His heart began to pound.

"Damn it!" Brylee cursed and dragged her fingers down her face. Why was everything going the wrong way?

Just yesterday, she thought Davies was the one who owed her a lot.

It had never crossed her mind that he was actually paying off Arthur's multimillion-dollar debt all along.

If this drama hadn't ensued, she might never have known this matter even after she divorced Davies.

Brylee bit her lip, looking at Davies with a complicated expression.

He hadn't uttered a word since she barged in.

His elbows were on the armrests of his wheelchair as he folded his arms. It was as if he could watch the drama unfold with a poker face for as long as it continued.

"Only members of the Harrison family are entitled to the wealth! It doesn't matter if the amount you ask for is chicken feed to Davies. You have no right to his money! Gosh, your sense of entitlement disgusts me!" Nicole hissed as if she really felt bad for Davies. "Indeed, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. While the father is trying to suck Davies' wealth dry, the daughter is busy possessing him no matter—"

"Point of correction, I no longer want Davies. We are divorced." Brylee cut her off angrily.

She then turned to look at her father with a cold expression.

"This has to stop! I don't want anything Davies owns, so don't ask him for money ever again. He's under no obligation to do anything for you, let alone pay off your debts."

Arthur yelled angrily, "What? Why did you split up with him? Have you gone nuts? What has got into you, Brylee?"

Nicole, on the other hand, was overjoyed to hear the news of the divorce. She sat on the couch next to Davies and crossed her legs to enjoy the show.

"Oh, so this is why Brylee packed her bags and left home?" Nicole took Davies' hand in hers. She rubbed it and looked at him with a cute expression. "Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?"

Davies withdrew his hand. He pulled down his tie and stared at Brylee coldly.

They were divorced? Brylee couldn't wait to get rid of him, could she? How dare she!

Brylee turned to look at him and asked, "Sorry for the trouble. How much money have you spent to clear his debts? I'll pay you back."

Davies held her stare for a long time.

"It's a whole lot of money, actually," he sneered.
