Chapter 5 Defensive Friend

"It appears you don't want to chat with me, so I'll cut to the chase."

Nicole waited for a response. After she got none, she sighed and continued, "I have a proposal for you. Since you want to divorce Davies, my family can compensate you. Jolly Apartments is just a stone's throw away from your company. You can choose an apartment you like and I'll give it to you once the divorce is finalized. You just have to make it snappy. What do you say?"

Nicole stared at Brylee with a mischievous smirk.

Jolly Apartments was located in a lowbrow area. In her opinion, that was where people like Brylee belonged.

Nicole had insisted on going abroad back then, despite Davies' wishes for her to stay. To get back at her, he had chosen to marry Brylee. The woman was just too lucky.

Davies was the eldest grandson of Adam. Even though he was bound to a wheelchair after the car accident, he was still entitled to the Harrison Corporation. He was sure to inherit the family business.

Nicole came back with high ambitions. She intended to clear every obstacle in her way. First, she had to take out the trash—Brylee.

Brylee chuckled. She shook her head as the mist in her eyes became colder by the second.

Just as she was about to chew Nicole out, the door swung open and there was a burst of hasty footsteps.

"Did I just hear wrong? What did you just say?"

Tessie pulled off the sunglasses from her eyes. The car key of a limited-edition sports car dangled on her index finger. She had on a designer dress and red high heels.

She snapped her fingers at Nicole's eye level and looked down at her. Tessie was naturally a nice girl, but she didn't hesitate to be rude to those who deserved it. "Hey, what hole did you crawl out from? You want to give my friend a shabby apartment? Are you kidding me?"

"Watch your mouth! How dare you speak to me like that?"

Nicole's smile froze. She leaned to the side as she looked in anger.

Tessie gave Brylee the let-me-handle-it look. She then turned to Nicole. "When did Brylee tell you she needed a house? What gives you the audacity to show off in front of her?"

In anger, she threw her car key on the table, startling Nicole immediately.

Tessie sneered at her. She then dialed a number. "Hello, Mr. Finch. Put the best private villa under the name, Brylee Pearson, at Seaview Villas. Get the necessary paperwork ready ASAP. No excuses."

The phone was on speaker, so Nicole heard the man on the other end say, "Yes, ma'am. I'll get that done immediately."

Seaview Villas was a big name in the real estate industry. It was one of the best residential areas in Springfield. They were freaking expensive.

Those villas were on sale just recently. Hundreds of people were waiting in line to buy houses, but even their money couldn't get them one. It took great power in addition to wealth to be able to get a house there.

Judging by the way Tessie spoke and how the man replied, she must have great authority. Nicole even began to think this woman owned the property company or something like that.

Tessie hung up the phone and sat beside Brylee elegantly. She scowled at Nicole.

"In case you don't know, an apartment under Jolly Apartments can't be compared to one of the bathrooms in Brylee's new villa. That place is more suitable for shitty people like you. You should keep it yourself. No one knows tomorrow. Who knows, the Harrison family might just kick you out one day. You need to plan ahead so you won't be left stranded."

Nicole's face turned many shades redder. She pounded the table and stood up, shouting, "You!"

"What? Did I say anything wrong?" Tessie opened her arms and shrugged. She then continued more ruthlessly, "I'm just stating facts. Don't tell me you think you are set for life just because the Harrison family took you in? Oh, stop being delusional!"

Nicole stared at Tessie, who gave her the same energy. Tension rippled between them.

Suddenly, a waitress came wheeling a trolley of food. She halted when she saw the scene. She did a U-turn immediately.

Brylee was the only one stunned. She looked at her friend in disbelief.

Although she knew that Tessie was from a rich home, she was surprised that she got her a villa within seconds.

Noticing her shocked look, Tessie secretly held her hand and continued tearing Nicole apart. "The Harrisons spent a lot of money to send you abroad to study. But is this what you've learned? What a shame! Would you like me to tell my father to speak to Adam about your bad behavior?"

Nicole's heart skipped a beat when she heard this. She felt that this woman would make good her threat.

She pointed at her for a long time. In the end, she could only grit her teeth and yell at Brylee, "You can get a battalion to support you. That won't change the fact that the Harrisons will always be on my side. Just wait and see!"

With that, she picked up her bag and stormed out.

Brylee had a bad feeling about her last statement.

Tessie yelled at the door, "You can do nothing, bitch! My Brylee is the most beautiful woman in the world. Anyone who chooses you over her is blind. You have got nothing on her. Go ahead and cry to those losers. You should—"

Brylee quickly covered her mouth. "That's enough!"

"Are you mad at me because of that mean girl?"

Tessie pouted and put on a sad expression. She was like a completely different person.

Brylee burst into laughter. She hugged her friend and kissed her cheek.

"How can I be mad at you? I can't thank you enough. You are the best." She picked up Tessie's phone and handed it to her. "Now, call to cancel the order. I don't want a villa."

"You know me, Brylee. I never take back what I have given out." Tessie snorted and looked at the door again. It was obvious she still wanted to chew Nicole out.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and the waitress came in again with the food.

To clear the table, Brylee picked up the car key and put it into Tessie's bag. She happened to see a page of her Apple Pay transaction history.

It read, "Breakfast: 38.1 dollars.

Parking charge: 2 dollars.

A villa for Brylee..."

Brylee saw a number with many zeroes, and it was followed by crying emojis.

Her jaw dropped to the floor.
