Pa Oni's first child was a girl called Sayo. She was also Madam Asa's first natural daughter. Sayo was beautiful, intelligent and was loved by everybody in the house .The in Egbeda community liked sayo for the way she composed herself. She was unlike many other girls around who were arrogant because they were in the University.
The year Sayo's mother was thought to have been involve in an accident was when she graduated from the University.
Bowing on his knees, Pa Oni thanked God:
"Father. I thank you that you spared my life to see the time my first child will graduate from a University. Ah, father ,I have nothing to give thee but to praise thee. Thank you Oh Lord."
Two things really spurred Pa Oni to celebrate his daughter's graduation. First, Sayo was the first graduate and the most beautiful in their household. Second, the graduation was an opportunity to celebrate the death-air that passed over Madam Asa during the year.
"This is really a joyful occassion for me" Pa Oni proudly told himself.
The next day was sunday. Also, there was a thanksgiving service in honour of Sayo. Prayers of thabksgiving offered in the church. The Pastor of the church used used that occassion to speak to parents who always felt that girls' education would always end in the kitchen.
In a very forceful manner, the Pastor proclaimed:
What happened in Pa Oni's house yesterday will bring the truth nearer home to you. I have always encouraged you to send your daughters to school but many of you would not listen.
"University education is one of the greatest academic attainments in our country today. We are happy that one of our own daughters has been able to achieve. It is my prayer this morning that the hoe of the government will not cut Sayo's feet. Her progress will be multiplying daily. For those of you who have not got children, God will provide, Amen"
