Chapter 5 How Could He Not Cherish You

If Tessa's memory served her well, she remembered that Samuel had thrown the watch on the floor because he did not like it. At that time, it was she who had tried to reassemble it using glue.

Despite the fact that the watch was no longer functioning, she was hesitant to throw it away.

When Samuel felt eyes on him, he whirled around to meet Tessa's cold, uncaring ones. He scowled and tossed the watch on the dressing table.

"Why did you leave this garbage here? What do you take my house for? A dump?"

Tessa shrugged. "You can throw it away if you want." Then, she walked past him to look for her necklace.

Samuel's eyes widened.

He thought the watch was important to her, so why was she consenting to discard it?

It seemed his suspicion was right. She had really changed.

Otherwise, she would not have gone out with another man.

His expression contorted in anger as he growled, "Tessa! The reason you agreed to the divorce so quickly is because you've already found a new partner. Am I right?"

Again, Tessa shrugged. "If that's what you like to think, go ahead."

After saying that, she went straight to the dressing table, opened a drawer, and took out a necklace box. Despite her and Samuel's close proximity, she continued to pay him no mind. Now that she had found what she was looking for, she turned around to leave.

However, Samuel suddenly grabbed her wrist, looking livid. "How dare you come back here and go as you please?"

Tessa tried to pull her arm back but to no avail. She stared at him in exasperation and hissed, "What do you think you're doing?"

Why was this man being so unreasonable all of a sudden? He was not this moody before.

Samuel tightened his hold on her and stated, "Grandma wants to see you, so you're coming home with me tonight."

Tessa frowned and looked at him as if he had lost his mind. "Are you crazy? No, I don't want to! Take Betty with you instead!"

Samuel's wrath grew at her blatant refusal. "Didn't you hear me? I said Grandma wants to see you! If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't want to be alone with you."

Tessa sneered. "Before, whenever Grandma asked for me to visit her, you always made up excuses so that we wouldn't meet. Why don't you just do that instead of insisting that I go with you?"

"Have you forgotten everything Grandma has done for you?"

Tessa pressed her lips tightly together. For the past three years, Grandma was the only member of the Pearson family who was kind to her and looked out for her. It was because she felt bad for her, who had to deal with Samuel's indifferent attitude every day.

Grandma treated her like she was her biological granddaughter. That was why Tessa could not say no when it came to Grandma.

"Are you just going to ignore her request, Tessa? I didn't know you were such a heartless person. Do you think she's useless to you now? Is that why you're ignoring her?"

"I'm not that kind of person!" Tessa snarled.

Samuel snorted. "Then come with me."

Tessa felt conflicted as she climbed into Samuel's car. She knew that Grandma constantly fretted about the state of their marriage.

She sighed in frustration and closed her eyes. If only she had not insisted on the marriage...

In the house of the Pearson family, as soon as they entered the living room, an enthusiastic voice welcomed them. "Oh, my beautiful granddaughter-in-law is here! Tessa, come and sit next to me! I've been waiting for your visit. I'm so glad you're finally here."

Tessa's eyelashes fluttered as she forced herself to smile. "Grandma, I'm sorry. I..."

Alena Pearson patted the back of her hand. The old woman's lips curled into a kind smile as she said, "You don't have to tell me. I know everything."

Tessa's eyes widened, and she looked at Alena in bewilderment. "You... You know everything?"

However, if Alena really knew about their separation, she wouldn't be so calm when talking to her.

Samuel seemed surprised as well as he stared at his grandmother.

Alena glanced at him before turning to Tessa again. "Listen. There's no way that the bride I picked out for him isn't the best. It's him who doesn't know how to cherish you!"
