Chapter 6 Help

The day dawned cloudy and finally I could let all my melancholy out, I looked at myself with disgust in the bedroom mirror for the last time and then, I took my backpack and went to the kitchen where my parents were waiting for me together with Brendon.

Brendon, sometimes I felt a little jealous of him, nothing could shake him no matter how unfavorable the situation was. His father died of a cardiac arrest while bringing us home when we were seven years old, I remember the scene to this day and how it traumatized me.

Seeing him call for his father saying that he could rest at home when he arrived hurt my chest, Brendon frantically rocking his father in an attempt to wake him up is not something I wish for anyone, not even my worst enemy. Thanks to the principal we came back fine that day, except his father 一 Brendon had everything to be a whiny little boy like me, but no, no one knew him well enough to know how strong willed he was and how brave he was to face everything head on and that's why I needed to be strong and not give up for the sake of the people who loved me.

一 Good morning 一 I smiled cheerfully and everyone reciprocated.

一 What's the matter with you today man? 一 Brendon asked me frowning as if he was wondering why I was in such a good mood.

一 I just woke up happy 一 I answered his question quietly as I sat up, but even I didn't understand why.

Maybe it was my desire to change and help other people that made me smile for the first time after some time, and sitting at the table accompanied by my parents and my best friend, I realized that I had no reason to want to die, things at school were not as good as I wanted, but I was alive and healthy, many people in their last days of life want to enjoy as much as they can with their family members, and I was wanting to waste that, no matter how much I suffer, I want to be happy again.

We laughed at the table at Brendon's unfunny jokes, and when our family got together, it was such a joy because of his good humor and my witticisms about his jokes. That was the good thing about having a nice friend, because I didn't have to make an effort to make people laugh, he did it in a natural way.

We finished breakfast at seven o'clock sharp, my parents went to their room to brush their teeth, and Brendon and I went to brush in the bathroom. For both of us this was normal, we had heard several homophobic comments coming from some of my mother's friends who sometimes came to visit her that made me disgusted with each of them, but the reality is that we were raised together in a pure and innocent way, a bond of brotherhood was created between us and this had nothing to do with being gay, but with being a brother.

We cleaned our mouths and our toothbrushes and left the bathroom bumping into my parents who were already leaving too, we left together and the only difference was that they were driving and we were walking, we waited for my mom to close the door and then we said goodbye to my parents and as usual, we got a kiss on the forehead from my little mom.

We watched the car drive off down the street until it lost him in our vision and then it was time to move on and make our way to school, today I was excited, it was like I felt like everything would be different today, but sometimes I had the same feeling and it was the same. It wasn't every time Mark picked on me, only when Emilly looked at me or mentioned my name, or when he remembered his ball, but I guess the ball wasn't of importance but because of her.
