Chapter 5 Breakfast

Layla's eyes widened in astonishment. Clark's handsome face was right in front of her. Their noses touched, and their breaths mingled and brushed against their faces. The air was thick with tension.

Damn it!

Would he blame her again for trying to seduce him? What if he thought she had already broken the agreement and demanded a divorce?

Clark's face was taut with rage. He glared at Layla, who was lying on top of him. "Get off me!"

"Yeah. Right. Okay."

Holding on to his chest, Layla pushed herself up. She gulped as she felt his chiseled muscles under her fingers. She didn't expect that he remained fit despite his disability.

Clark shuddered as her touch sent a wave of current in his body. "Hurry up!" he snapped coldly.

"No problem." Layla tried hard to balance herself. However, her ankle suddenly hurt so much that she lost her balance again and fell on Clark. Their lips pressed against each other once again.

Not daring to look at Clark's face, she scrambled to her feet, limped aside, and raised her hands. "I'm sorry."

"You did it on purpose, didn't you?" Clark hissed through his gritted teeth.

Aware of her mistake, Layla quickly reached out her hand to help Clark sit up, but he slapped it away.

"All right. I won't touch you, okay?" she mumbled, rubbing her hand. "I don't like you. Why are you so defensive around me?"

Then, she limped to the cabinet, took out a quilt, and lay down on the sofa.

"Good night." With that, she fell asleep. Moments later, the sound of soft snores filled the room.

Clark looked at the petite figure curled up on the sofa and touched his lips. His face flushed with anger and embarrassment.

He couldn't help but wonder if the woman was trying to seduce him.

Layla got up early the next day. To her surprise, Clark was not in the room. She quickly changed her clothes and went to the living room. As soon as she arrived, she spotted the dark circles around his eyes as he glared at her.

"Are you okay?" she asked, frowning.

Layla wondered if he suffered from an ailment besides his disability.

"Shut up!" Clark glared at her, but his gaze involuntarily flitted to her plump, ruddy lips. His heart raced as he had the urge to kiss her again.

He gritted his teeth to ward off the strange thoughts in his mind. He kept telling himself that he didn't want to kiss her, for he felt she was seducing him on purpose.

"I'll make some breakfast." Looking at the brand new utensils in the kitchen, Layla wore her apron, ready to cook, oblivious to the strange expression on Clark's face.

"You know how to cook?" His eyes widened in surprise.

He had heard that the daughter of the Reed family was arrogant and domineering. When did she learn to cook?

"Try and see!" Layla said confidently. It was not like she would poison him.

"I don't eat onions," he reminded her.

"Got it."

Although she said so, Layla cut three onions in front of him.

As expected, Clark looked annoyed when breakfast was ready.

He angrily stirred the vegetable soup in front of him with a spoon in an attempt to discard the onions.

Seeing his childishness, Layla smiled secretly.

Clark almost finished the entire bowl of soup but couldn't spot even a single piece of onion. "Are you kidding me?" he asked, looking at her.

"I wouldn't dare." She winked playfully.

The truth was, Layla put all the chopped onions in her bowl. After inquiring a servant, she learned that Clark was not allergic to onions. He was just a picky eater, so she wanted to play a trick on him. She didn't intend to make him eat the onions.

After breakfast, Layla washed some fruits in the kitchen and was about to bring them to Clark.

At that moment, her phone rang.

She wondered who was calling her at this hour.

Layla picked up the phone and answered the call. Soon, her face turned pale. "What? What happened to my grandma? I'll be right there."

Hanging up the phone, Layla threw the fruits aside and rushed out of the kitchen, ignoring her sprained ankle.
