Chapter 3 Clark's Condition

Half an hour later, Clark sat in his study with a gloomy face. He had already changed into dry clothes.

Pierson Bates, his personal assistant, stood beside his desk. Clark actually called Pierson to come over with a divorce agreement.

With the document in his hand, Pierson said to Clark hesitantly, "Boss, are you sure you want to divorce Sandra now? The necklace you have been looking for is in the Reed family, and you haven't gotten it yet. You married her only because of that necklace, right?"

"That's right. But is that necklace more important than my life? That woman will kill me sooner or later." Obviously, Clark was still angry. At this moment, his thin lips were pursed tightly, and he frowned, looking very unapproachable.

He had never been humiliated all his life.

Pierson didn't dare to persuade Clark anymore. But he couldn't help admiring Layla in his heart. Clark had always been calm and cold. She was the first person who had pissed Clark off like this.

He respectfully handed the divorce agreement and a pen to Clark.

Clark took them and went downstairs to have Layla sign the agreement.

At this moment, Layla sat on the leather sofa on the first floor, waiting anxiously.

As soon as she saw Clark's figure, she subconsciously stood up. She was about to admit her mistake and apologize when she saw the document in his hand with the word "divorce" written on it.

Layla was alarmed, and she became more anxious. She racked her brain, thinking about what to do next.

She couldn't divorce Clark. At least not now.

Otherwise, Alina would use this as an excuse to stop paying for her grandmother's hospital bills.

But what could Layla do to make Clark change his mind? Before she could think of a way, he was already in front of her and said two words coldly, "Sign it."

She stepped back, shaking her head stubbornly. "No. I won't agree to the divorce. And I'm not leaving. You can't drive me away."

Clark snorted coldly, "This is the Smith family's house. If I want to drive you away, who dares to stop me?"

Layla clenched her fists tightly, not knowing what to do. She gave Clark a sidelong glance and suddenly saw a unique bronze ring on his finger.

The style of the ring was simple and noble, not like the current popular style.

An idea flashed through Layla's mind. She thought of what Clark had said when he stopped her outside the door. She said loudly, "I remember the necklace you mentioned earlier. I know what it looks like. Is it an old bronze necklace with a special gem on it? It looks like a piece of Baroque-style jewelry. I'm telling you, if you divorce me, you will never get that necklace for the rest of your life. Only I in the Reed family know where that necklace is."

Clark's eyes narrowed dangerously, and Layla immediately felt a strong sense of oppression. "No one has ever dared to threaten me."

His words sent a chill down her spine. Actually, she was only bluffing. The truth was, she had no idea what the necklace looked like.

She just tried her luck and described it according to the style of his ring, thinking of the possibility that they were a set. Fortunately, he did not refute her.

Layla put on a flattering smile and explained, "I'm not threatening you. I'm helping you analyze the pros and cons. As long as you don't divorce me, not only can I help you find the necklace, but I can also do a lot of things for you. I can cook, replace light bulbs, trim trees, and so on. Besides, I'm strong enough to be your bodyguard. I can protect you. If anyone dares to provoke you, I can punch them up to death."

As she spoke, she waved her fist, proving her perceived trustworthiness.

Watching her lively performance, a hint of interest flashed through Clark's deep-set eyes. It seemed that she was not without merits.

And, of course, he wanted to get that necklace. He needed it.

He was a little interested in her proposal, but he didn't show it on his face. His expression remained unchanged as he sneered, "I never knew that the daughter of the Reed family would do such work."

The smile on Layla's face froze. "What do you want me to do? Just say it. As long as you let me stay, I can do anything for you."

Clark didn't say anything. He just looked at her.

Layla's heart sank upon seeing his reaction.

He still wanted to divorce her. Once she was kicked out of his house, Alina would immediately stop paying for her grandmother's medical expenses.

She and her grandmother were actually not related by blood. But her grandmother was the only person in this world who loved her.

Could she even not protect the only family who loved her?

Layla lowered her head. She could no longer stop her tears from falling.

She couldn't help but quietly sob.

Clark saw her shoulders trembling slightly and heard her sobs, so he knew she was crying. For a moment, he was at a loss, not knowing what to do. He could only ask stiffly, "Why are you crying?"

Layla was already sad. And when she heard his words, she couldn't control her emotions even more. She burst into tears.

She choked with sobs and couldn't speak anymore.

The last thing Clark wanted to see was a woman crying. So he controlled his wheelchair forward and comforted her awkwardly, "Stop crying now."

"How can I not cry? You're going to divorce me and kick me out of your house." After saying this, Layla cried even harder.

Clark didn't know what to do with her. He sighed and said helplessly, "I won't divorce you, on the condition that you will have to promise me one thing."
