Chapter 4 The Dramatic First Kiss

Layla stopped crying at once. She immediately asked, "What is that?" Hope was rekindled in her heart.

But Clark didn't answer her question directly. Instead, he called Pierson.

Not long after, Pierson came downstairs and handed two new documents to Clark. He heard that Layla kicked Clark earlier, so he couldn't help looking at her curiously.

At this moment, Clark put the documents on the coffee table and said, "If you want to stay, sign this."

Layla asked in surprise, "A prenup?"

She picked up the document on the coffee table and read it from beginning to end, not missing a single word. It listed a series of issues, such as property distribution between them and how they should live their marriage life.

First, the properties they owned before marriage would remain their individual assets.

Second, they had to show the outside world that they were a loving couple. Both parties should refrain from doing anything that might spark rumors about a broken relationship. And they could not interfere with each other's private lives.

Finally, when either party filed for a divorce, the other party was not allowed to object.

At the end of the document, there were supplemental texts that said, "The wife is strictly forbidden from seducing her husband by any means."

This last entry made Layla's jaw drop in shock. How could Clark be so shameless? She was so angry that her face flushed.

She wanted to ask him what gave him the confidence to add such a ridiculous thing. Was it his empty wallet? He was about to go bankrupt. Who would covet his assets when people knew he was almost penniless? Besides, who would seduce a cripple like him?

Layla pursed her lips and protested, "It's unfair. The last one only states that I can't seduce you. It should also be stated here that you can't force me to have sex with you under any circumstances."

But Clark only mocked, "Stop dreaming. I'm not interested in country bumpkins like you."

Upon hearing this, Layla said, "Then I'll add another condition to this agreement. That is, you can't file a divorce within two years. As long as you promise that our marriage will last for at least two years, I will sign this agreement."

Her grandmother's treatment would take about two years. As long as Clark didn't divorce her during this time, the Reed family would continue to shoulder her grandmother's medical expenses.

Clark looked at her delicate face and asked, "Do you have a crush on me? Are you going to use these two years to make me fall in love with you?"

Layla was annoyed, feeling he was too narcissistic. She grunted, "Don't worry. I will never fall in love with you. Also, please guard your heart. I advise you not to fall in love with me either."

"You?" Clark guffawed and looked at her up and down. It was as if he had heard a big joke.

But he still asked Pierson to add the clause to the agreement.

Pierson went back to the study to revise the agreement and print it out. Soon, he returned downstairs with the new one. Layla read every term again and signed it. "Okay. From now on, we will pretend as a real couple."

Clark signed the agreement, too, and asked Pierson to take it to the lawyer to be notarized. After Pierson left, he reached out to Layla. "Help me change my clothes."

It was getting dark, so he wanted to change into his pajamas and go to bed to rest.

But much to his surprise, Layla refused.

"I am not a fool. If I help you change your clothes, what if you slander me and make it appear I seduced you? Then you will say I violate our agreement, right?" After saying this, Layla turned and looked at the sofa beside her, thinking she would make do with it tonight. Sleeping here was not a problem for her at all.

"Isn't it a wife's duty to take care of her husband who is not in good health? Now I doubt you can pretend to be a good wife in front of other people." As he said this, there was a hint of displeasure in Clark's tone.

"Why? What's so hard about it?"

Layla walked to the closet and took out a silk nightshirt. Then she approached Clark and quickly opened the collar of the bathrobe. She gripped its hemline and forcefully yanked it down to remove it.

"Stop it! What are you trying to do?" Clark said through clenched teeth.

He didn't expect her to treat him rudely. Was she not afraid of him?

"Shh! Be quiet!" Layla continued tugging his bathrobe out.

She tried removing it, but she failed. She frowned and put one arm around his shoulder and the other under his knees. Then she bent over and lifted him off the wheelchair, intending to put him on the bed.

Clark's eyes widened, but he reflexively wrapped his arms around her neck. "You..."

Layla was caught off guard when his cold hand touched her nape. Her body trembled, and she couldn't help but loosen her grip on him.

He was afraid that he might fall hard on his back, so he desperately tried to hold on to something, and that was when he grabbed her collar.

And he ended up dragging her along with him.

Before Layla realized what had happened, she heavily fell on Clark, and their lips pressed together tightly.
