Chapter 4 Not Fair Life

Dr Steve led Dylan into his office and then urged him to sit down which he did.

"Sir, I believe you are related to the girl you brought here"

The doctor asked him meekly, he doesn't want to sound so rude to him for the fear of offending their benefactor.

Dylan thought of denying a possible relationship but decided against it.

"Yes I am related to her, what's the matter with her?"

Dylan asked. The doctor was surprised that despite Mr Devonn being related to the girl he is not aware of her critical health condition.

"She is asthmatic and has got a hole in her heart which needs an urgent transplant and it's going to cost a lot of money"

"Oh is that so? Like how much are we talking about"

Dylan asked the doctor.

"Like a $45 thousand"

The doctor replied and Dylan looked up in surprise.

" That's huge, but anyway commence treatment on her and make sure she's comfortable, first thing tomorrow morning the money will be transferred to the hospital account"

He said and stood up. Dylan was kind of surprised at himself. He does not know the girl and he is ready to spend that kind of money on her.

"When did he become a human?"

He thought.

The doctor on his own side was shocked. If Mr Devonn is ready to spend this kind of money on the girl then she must be a relative but why was she looking malnourished and tattered. The Devonns are so rich that they should have done something before now. The doctor did not want to think much and decided to take things how he sees them. There might be an explanation to all these.

"Can I see the girl?"

Dylan requested and Dr Steve nodded his head.

He led Dylan out of his office and took him on a rollercoaster of corridors. Dylan can't believe he has to walk this far to get to her Ward and when they got to her Ward, he was not impressed by what he saw. The room was not looking nice at all and he wondered if they didn't give the hospital enough money to take care of it.

He eyed Dr Steve and concluded in his mind that he would have to host an urgent meeting with the stakeholders of the hospital as soon as possible to explain why the hospital has to look this way. This is a private hospital for crying out loud and it's supposed to look the best.

He rested his stare on the girl, she was on oxygen and she had lost color on her face. She was looking so pale that if something was not done quickly, she might die.

"I don't want after the operation she will be brought here, take her to the exclusive ward and make sure that all she needed is provided and don't fail to leave nurses at her side at all times because I might not be here to take care of her"

Dylan warned the doctor with a straight face. The doctor almost peeped on his pants because he was so afraid that he would say something about the look of the ward.

He sighed in relief when Mr Devonn only said to transfer the girl but he knew that there would be an urgent meeting and he would have a lot of explaining to do.

"Alright sir, we will do just that. Be sure that we will deliver"

With that Dylan walked out of the wards without looking back. He hates hospitals and doesn't wish to return there again.

******

Chris managed to get to Dylan's mansion on feet fully drenched, the rain had not stopped falling on this part of the town.

He stood at the parking lot looking like a fish out of water when his phone rang. He jumped frighteningly, fumbling for his phone and when he found it, It was so soaked like the owner. He checked the caller and it was his wife. His heart skipped faster than usual, it's only problems that can make his wife call him when he is still at work and come to think of it, he was supposed to have been off for the day.

He breathed in and out then repeated it to calm his nerves and afterwards picked the call.

"Hello! honey you need to come home right now, Jasper is very sick and I don't have any money on me to buy drugs for him"

His wife said and hugged the call. It's only problems that call him every now and then. Last week, his younger daughter fell sick and he spent so much. He thought of how he would have been managing if not that he works for Mr Davonn who seems like he is a beast yet he is kind, his world would have crumbled.

Chris doesn't think he is sure of his job any more, what if his boss sacks him? Where is he going to get a good damn pay job just to do nothing? The probability that he had lost his job was so high that his whole body quivered like a dancing jellyfish.

He walked back to the gate and the electric gate opened after he had scanned him.

He has no money on him and that's too bad because his little home is about four kilo from the Davonn's Mansion. It was not trackable and worst still, it was getting late plus the heavy downpour that has continued to grace the earth earlier.

He can't wait for his boss to come home because he has no clue when he is coming back. Chris has only one option and that to get home on foot if heaven smiled on him he might get a lift. Life is not fair on this part of the world.

***********

Mrs Andrew, Bella' s mom was pacing around looking so worried the small living room was nearly dark that she can't make most of the things in the room, her darling daughter is not yet back and the day is about going to bed. The worst part is the rain refuses to stop. Where in the world could she start looking for her now. It's already late and what happens if she goes in search of her and she returns to meet her absence,it will worry Bella. Her line is really not going through.

"Oh Lord keep her safe for me"

She prayed

She sat down and was about to try her line again when a call came into her phone. She does not pick an unknown number but it might be a gateway to where Bella is.

"Hello!"

She said like she was whispering when she picked the call

"Hi ma'am"

A deep baritone voice said at the other end

"Davonn Dylan on the phone, am I unto Mrs Andrew?"

"Yes please, you are speaking with Mrs Andrew"

She answered anxiously

"Well I am calling in respect of Bella"

He said and she freezed

"What? Did something happen to her?"

She panicked

"No ma'am, nothing to worry about. She will not be coming home today."

He said and she got more anxious

"Oh my....what happened to my daughter"

She asked and was on the verge of breaking down.

"Not to worry, she will come home tomorrow but not tonight....May the rest of your day be good"

He said and hung up the call leaving Mrs Andrew helpless not knowing how her daughter is doing.

"Bella I hope you are okay, please be safe for your mother. You know mummy loves you so much. You are all that I have got"

She prayed hoping that her daughter will be alright. Somehow she trusted the stranger that called.
