Chapter 9 Let's create memories

"I can't come with you." The sentence made Juliet shudder.

"But why Mummy. I want to stay with you. Dad doesn't have time for me. I'm already a grown up and I can do what I want to. Please Mummy, take me with you." Juliet seemed frightened as she clasp her mother's hand tightly.

Miss Lan stroked her daughter's face.

"Listen to me. It's not that I dont want to take me with you but I'm leaving the country for a while and while I'm not settled, I don't want to bring any trouble to you."

"It's that again!", Juliet pushed her hands angrily. "Why can't you two just think about me once? Why?"

Miss Lan quickly held her cheeks and said seriously,

"Julie, you're not listening. I've already found you and I'm not going to let you go this time. You're going to start working right? Stay with Mr Cheng for a while. I'll surely come back in less than six months and go with you. You can stay with me then. Okay?"

Juliet calmed down after hearing this. She pursed her lips and laid down on her mother's lap.

"Tell me more about yourself dear." Miss Lan said and Juliet nodded.

Luke waited patiently in the car before Juliet walked over with her mother but he noticed she was frowning as they did. Is something wrong?

He came out and looked at Juliet inquisitively.

"I have to go. " miss Lan held Juliet's hand and guided her towards Luke. Juliet looked reluctant but she looked the other way holding back her tears.

"Luke, please take care of my daughter. Thanks for helping her. You made we mother and daughter meet again." Miss Lan slightly bowed at Luke.

"No need. I had to do it." Luke quickly held her up.

Miss Lan's eyes were red as she looked at Juliet once more before turning around. A car came over and picked her up.

Luke turned to Juliet and asked, " what happened? Why the long face?"

Juliet finally couldn't hold it back again as tears fell down her cheeks.

Luke seem to panic as she started crying. He hesitated as his hands moved whether to console her or not. Seeing her tears still falling down, he sighed and pulled her into his embrace.

"It's okay now. You've finally met your mum? Shouldn't you be happy?" He said and her patted her back. His consoling this time didn't seem to work.

"Hey, stop acting like a cry baby okay?" He shouted.

Juliet pushed him away and glared at him. She snorted and entered the car. That worked . Luke smield wryly and joined her.

She was still frowning despite her red and swollen eyes.

"Hey, what happened?", he asked again but she just snorted.

"Is that how you're planning on.......", he starts to say when she spoke, " My parents married at a young age......."

After hearing what transpired, Luke was astounded. This wasn't something rare. "So you're upset because she isn't taking you right away?", he asked .

"She just doesn't want me." Juliet grumbled.

"Okay quit being over dramatic okay! She agreed to meet you and didn't reject you and she even promised to take you with her. You're really lucky you know. Some of us want our mothers but they are no longer here!" Luke sounded agitated as he spoke and his voice trembled as he reached the end.

Juliet turned to him surprisingly and noticed that his eyes were slightly red.

"Luke, sorry. I won't complain anymore. I was just emotional. ", she said meekly.

Luke inhaled deeply and grabbed the stirring wheel. "I understand what you feel. Sorry, I shouted at you."

He actually apologized. "It's not your fault. ", Juliet shook her head as the car fell into silence.

"Don't you want to ask what happened to my and Chloe's mother?", Luke looked at her.

"If you don't want to say it, just don't. " Juliet smiled.

"I want to tell you. I can have some piece of mind too." Luke said and his grip on the stirring wheel became tighter.

"I was ten when it happened. Chloe was just eight. We where on our way back from school. Me, Chloe and Mum . My mum was the one driving while we all played at the back seat. My mum was on her phone that day as she drove. Nothing bad had ever happened but who knew that day everything will go wrong. I don't know how things happened when the car twirled and hit a tree. When I opened my eyes, I was lying in the hospital and Dad was besides him, his eyes swollen. He told me that my Mum didn't survive the accident. Chloe cried until she slept that day. Dad raised us by himself and supports us all the time but I still....miss my Mum."

Luke laid his head there quietly. Juliet quickly patted his back. Compared to them, she seemed lucky. Atleast, both of her parents were alife.

Luke sat up straight and glanced at her.

"No need to be sad. Everything that happened is already in the past, okay. We should be on our way."

"Let's eat first. " Juliet said fetching the food from the back seat. He nodded and they had a quick meal before heading back.

The sky slowly got dark and the buildings shone with brilliant light lighting up the streets. This was probably the first time the two of them had such long drive.

"The streets looks even more brighter at night don't you think?" Juliet smiled as she looked through the window.

"Best time to hang out.", Luke agreed .

"That's true. Hey, The roller coaster!" Juliet exclaimed excitedly as they came by the amusement park again. The huge roller coaster was more attractive at night so was the park. She glanced at Luke and said, "Hey, since we're here already, why not go in?"

"The park?", he inquired and she nodded.

"It's been long since I last came to somewhere like this. " he muttered.

"I really want to try that roller coaster." Juliet said.

Luke stopped the car and looked outside feverishly. "Let's create some memories!" Juliet smiled brightly and he took a detour into the amusement park. It was really crowded at the moment. After parking the car, they got out and looked outside. Such a nice place.

"It's crowded, don't get lost." Luke reminded and grabbed Juliet's hand. She was suprised at first but felt a strange familiar feeling. She smiled as they walked into the crowd.

"Games. My favourite. " Luke exclaimed as they ran towards a gaming booth.

"Win and get a toy for free." The man behind the counter said with a smile.

Juliet stared at the rows of teddy bears and pointed at the white one. "I want that one."

"Not a problem. I can be proud that my strongest field is playing games." Luke said arrogantly. Juliet curled her lips at his behaviour. Of course, what does this guy do every day?

For someone who could play virtual games, this was walk on sand for Luke.

"Here you go!" The man handed the white teddy to Luke. He took it and gave it to Juliet. She smiled and hugged the teddy.

Seeing her excited expression, Luke felt gratified.

"I'll play next!" She announced but chose a different game where she had to hit domes on the table. She chuckled as she did it. Luke was also laughing at her mannerism.

They tried out more games before coming to the roller coaster. Luke had a weird look as he gazed at the large wheel.

"No matter what happens, you aren't allowed to tell anyone. " he looked at Juliet and said emphasising the words.

"What's the big deal about this?" She raised her eyebrow and dragged him to get a ticket.

Before long, they were seated getting ready for take off.

"Ready?", Juliet asked looking at Luke who nodded.

She giggled as the seats started rising. Luke could feel his heart tensed up. Only he knew he was afraid of heights! Why did I agree to this.

"Woah! We are up already. Wow, the stars looked closer up here and brighter, don't you think?", Juliet smiled.

"Go get one if you want to." Luke grumbled. Of course, Juliet didn't care about what his said as she was preoccupied with the sight.

The worst part came for Luke as the roller coaster got faster. Frantic yells sounded consecutively before it stopped eventually.

Juliet laughed as she hit her laps but she realised she was hitting someone's back. Her laughter stopped as she glanced at Luke was grabbing her waist tightly.

Being someone not used to any close contact, Juliet immediately blushed. "What are you doing?"

Luke coughed and sat up straight. "Nothing, I just taught you were going to fall , that's why?" He said righteously.

Juliet gasp , her eyes filled with of mockery. Luke quickly got down and she followed him.

"Hey, say the truth. You weren't afraid that I would fall. You were afraid of heights!" Juliet chuckled poking his chest.

"Shut up." He curled his lips moving her hand.

"Just admit it. I could even hear your screams. Now that I remember, my waist is aching from all that clutching. " She laughed.

"You're having fun in all this right?" Luke narrowed his eyes crossing his arms.

"Why not! I really think we should try this next time." Juliet seemed unperturbed as she smiled.

Luke immediately stiffened after she said that. "Go do that alone." He scoffed and started walking off.

Hey! Juliet quickly grabbed his arm. "What?" He turned around.

"We can't just leave without a picture right?"

"Huh?"

"Photo boot."

Luke sighed loudly as they ran to the photo boot. Eh......what's the situation here? There were mainly two boots here. One for family and the other for couples but the first boot was really crowded.

"Guess we can't do it today." Juliet pouted.

"Just one single pic, let's go." Luke grabbed her hand and walked to the second booth. Juliet was suprised but she still followed. It didn't take time before it was their turn. Everywhere inside was beautifully decorated.

"Just like your dress?", Luke glanced at Juliet and snickered.

"Are your eyes blind?" She snorted but was still smiling. Get ready for photo. Uhh...When Juliet's lips twitched when she looked at Luke. This guy had his hands in his pocket with a nonchalant expression.

"Trying to spoil this picture huh?" She smirked and her hands moved.

The two came out and Luke was glaring at Juliet who was laughing so hard that she had to hold her stomach. She collected their copy and Luke was the one laughing in the photo. They really looked like kids having fun.

Luke held his hips as he shook his head as he looked at the picture.

He had no idea when Juliet started tickling him in that photo boot.

"Having fun huh?" He muttered.

"Who wouldn't. You look quite cute in there. Hah." Juliet laughed and looked at him blinking.

He traced his chin and said, "You know, they say that it's not good to enjoy good things alone?"

"Huh?" Juliet was confused but seeing the evil smile on Luke's face, she panicked.

"Too late!" Luke shouted and grabbed her arms. She shouted but it soon turned to laughter. What's more sweeter than revenge.

When they came back to the parking lot, there were alot of things in their hands and their mood was filled with excitement.

"It's already late, do you think they'll be worried at home. " Juliet wondered hugging her white teddy.

"I'll just step on it." Luke shrugged as they left the park.

.................

A man sat in a red car in the parking lot speaking on the phone.

"Boss, you don't have to try hard. Those two are already close now. They went into town to meet a woman who seems to be the girl's mother."

"Interesting. Where are they now?" The voice on the other side of the call asked.

"They just left the amusement park."

"Keep watching them and also on the mean time, find out about that woman. She's called Lan Yin."

"Yes."
