Chapter 2 The interview

I came home from a really long shift got into the shower and set my phone for the alarm. I laid there for a few minutes thinking about tomorrow. I had never been someone's personal attorney. But it's worth a shot right. I had drifted off to sleep.

My alarm went off and I got up and took a shower and got dressed. Walking out of my room Charlie was making coffee. Good morning she smiled. With her dread locks and black square glasses she always wore except when working then she would put her contacts in. Are you nervous? I don't even think I am going. Did you see him last night no one talked to him and after people meals they left. She giggled yes but your tip was a big lump sum he must have liked you. The other waitresses got a note saying do better with your service. You should go maybe you can be working as his attorney full time. Yeah I doubt that I smiled.

11:30 came around quickly and I got into my dress clothes which was a pair of black slacks and a black top with red and white stripes the neck of the shirt was a over sized collar. A pair of black heals and my hair in a poof of a pony tail. Having an afro was hard to maintain so I worked with what I had. Straightening it would take hours and today what it seemed like wasn't on my side.

Okay I'm going wish me luck I yelled. Good luck Charlie shouted back and don't forget to speak.

It took one 10 minutes to get there by a car. Luckily Pam had reservations being done or I would be stuck walking. I walked in the office approached a lady with blond hair and brown eyes with red lipstick.

Hello, miss she replied may I help you?

Yes my name is Kentana Lang and I have an interview at 12. She looked it up on her computer. She looked at the time and she said I was early. Early is on time and being on time is late I smiled. She said okay and had me sit by the window facing the woods.

I sat and I waited and the assistant came over a few minutes later asking me to follow her.

I usually don't do the interviews but Mr. Thomas has a business meeting that came up today so I told him I would interview you. I gave her the paper work I had brought with me as I sat down in the chair across from her.

She looked it over. Kentana you are from New York? Yes mam, you graduated from Harvard law school?

Yes Mam I said once more.

What made you go for your lawyer degree?

The competition I replied. I was in sports in high school and I loved competing and my parents are lawyers and pursued me to do the same.

Why didn't you stay or go to California?

I wanted something different. It's normal for lawyers to stay in new York or go to California I wanted something different.

I see she said. It says here you only have 2 years under your belt why is that?

Cause it's true when coming here 2 years ago I don't think I was liked that much wasn't paying good so I became waitress until an opportunity such like this one. I replied.

Okay, do you have any questions for me she asked.

Umm no I replied.

Okay well I will have my boss look over this and you should be getting a call back in two days.

I got up to leave and Mr. Thomas came walking in I smiled and put my head down walking out the door.

Walking I seen the waitress walking out the door that had waited on me last night. Olive skin tone, brown what seemed to look black eyes. She was dressed nicely. Was that the girl kentana Lang I had asked treasa? Yes sir. She's human but smart. Why she raised an eyebrow. She served my food to me last night at the diner went by Tana.

So what do you think Treasa handing me her paper work and looking over them she is from New York so maybe she is well aware of our kind. Let's put her to the test and give her a small case of my in small claims over this property. I would be happy to get this log cabin back from my cousin Richard. Right on it sir.

****Kentana****

When I pulled in the driveway my rang began to ring.

It was the office of Peter Thomas. I picked up the assistant said hello, Mr, Thomas would like you to represent him in a small claim court. Are you still interested? Yes, what's the pay? If things go well 1500 if not 900. This is just to see how well you do in court. She replied. Alright, I said I am going to need all the information. Okay she replied. There will be a black Suv stopping by in the next hour to drop off the information. Miss. Lang no one is to look at this information but you. Yes I know about the client privacy. The person that will be dropping the things off is Dembe Reddington he will there and he will stay there as your personal excort. But I don't need a personal excort. Mam she replied I don't make the rules I just imply them. He will sit outside. You have a week and she hung up the phone.

A week I'm gonna be up all night studying this case it shouldn't take to long though it's small claims usually are over in a day. I walked in and Charlie was sitting on the couch watching TV. How did it go? Apparently Mr. Thomas liked what he saw on my paper that he is putting me to the test in small claims court. But aren't you a criminal attorney. Yes, I shook my head biting into an apple. But I know some about small claims so I think I will do okay. The door bell rang, oo forgot to mention I guess we have our own body guard. That must be him. I walked to the door and open it with my eyes widened I was standing infront of what seem to 6"2 tall browned skinned man. He handed me the boxes of information. I'm Dembe he said in a deep voice. I will be outside in the black SUV he pointed out to the curb. I smiled and thanked him and he walked away. Don't you wanna know my name I shouted. He turned around and smiled Ms. Lang I already know everything about you. I said okay with a weird and confused look. I shut the door and began walking towards the living room. For a small claim court this sure is alot of information. Yeah my guess it's the log cabin that was set fire a year back Charlie had said. Where is this log cabin? Outside of New Orleans she replied. So why isn't he taking it with that county. Ahh the perks of having money and knowing people Charlie smirked opening the top box. I smacked her hand away, hey she said. You can't see the information I could lose my license. Yeah well it's only you and I and besides you are gonna need me cause I don't think he's a normal person. Charlie I swear you and your paranormal and supernatural stories and legends I am surprised you aren't in the looney pen. But fine but you speak to no one of what we see or read or talk about. DEAL! She screeched plopping on the couch.

It took us a few hours to sort through everything. So his cousin Richard wants this cabin why? Charlie looked at me and said because in my legends and stories you say that are made up it holds a powerful entity that can possibly destroy the whole city of New Orleans. Okay? So why doesn't he just buy it from him? Charlie grabbed a document and said he tried and Richard declined.

Well how did he and him get their hands on the property? It was left in a will from Mr. Thomas's mother leaving it to Mr. Thomas. So where is the will? Apparently his father burned it before he passed. Okay, well we or I have some leg work. What do you mean. Well, if a will was made up and documented by a lawyer that lawyer has a copy. This is an easy case.

It was 1am and I was exhausted. Charlie had fallen asleep on the couch. I will call Mr. Thomas at 8 sharp. I jotted down.

I smelled coffee and heard another voice coming from downstairs luckily I put the information away. I walked downstairs to find Dembe talking with Charlie and drinking coffee. He stood up as he noticed me. Mr. Thomas called and asked for updates. There is but I can only speak to him about it. He looked at me and said he was able to Relay the message. I'm sorry sir as he is my client I can't discuss the matters with you. Can I have his personal number to set a meeting with him? He told me to hold on one second as he made a phone call. He probably knew that I wasn't going to budge.

He came back to the kitchen and told me he will meet me in a location that Dembe will take me to in about 10 minutes. Quickly Charlie said he isn't a man that has a whole lot of patience.

I quickly ran upstairs and threw on pants and a nice shirt and slipped on my sandals. I walked downstairs and they both looked at me. I rolled my eyes and said he didn't give me much time. I grabbed a cup off coffee and dembe headed out the door.

The location was secure woods every where I turned. Mr. Thomas came out from the trees. He gave me a stern confused look. Yesterday you looked nicer he stood infront of me. Sir, I said respectfully you really didn't give me that much time. So what's the update? Well from my research and some help from my parents I had fibed because I didn't want to lose my license. I was wondering if you had your mom's lawyers name who made the will? Why do you need my mother's will. Sir if he or she has a copy the matter would be over in a day. We've tried there is no luck on finding this so called lawyer. I'm different type of lawyer I will find this or something else to win this case. So may I please have the county and the lawyers name?

Sure he said handing me a peace of paper. It's a dead end he replied. We will see I thought to myself. He smirked as if he heard what I had thought.

****Peter****

I like her my wolf said. She's human Alec and so? Our last mate was evil. We will not speak of Jess. She disappeared years ago after attempting to kill me.

She is stubborn you heard her thought. High confidence a perfect luna. Alec. I sighed.

Here is my personal number call me if you find anything. She smiled at me and said sure thing.

Oh and Miss. Lang. She turned around and looked at me for a response. Next time just tell Dembe he has been with me for years.

Why do I need a excort she asked by the way. Your own safety I replied. Now the time is ticking your Job depends on this case.

She got into the SUV.

****Kentana****

My safety, is this man wanted for dead or something? I thought out loud. No, Miss. Lang just a high profiled man where people don't know how to keep to themselves. He looked at me Through the rear view.
