Chapter 6 Our mate is here somewhere

More people are showing by the minute. The main topic everyone is talking about is why did the White Moon Alpha call an emergency meeting. "I bet the Luna is finally with pup again," one voice says. Another argues " I bet they're looking for a mate for their worthless daughter. I might consider it, if they pay me." This gets a round of laughs.

"Can I have everyone's attention please. I know you're all curious why I called you all here. First off, I'd like to thank all of you for coming on such short notice. Second of all, you may have noticed not every pack is represented here today," Alpha Jack stops to sip his water, building up suspense. "You're about to see why only certain packs and members were invited. As we all know pack gifts are thinning out, but some packs still remain strong. The grey wolf packs especially. Now I'm here to offer you weaker packs a chance to regain your power so you don't have to rely on the greys for protection. You've all heard the stories of the golden wolves and what they may mean. I'm here to tell you, the stories are true. It's time for me to show you my new weapon. If you will, Beta Eric," Alpha Jack says proudly.

The cover is removed from my cage and gasps arise through the hall. "It's a real gold wolf," I hear someone whisper. "Who is it I wonder," say another. They gather around my cage grabbing our ears, tail, and fur. We try to snap at them but there just isn't room. "Save your strength Adira. There's nothing we can do right now. But if we ever get out of here, they will all suffer. I vow before the Moon Goddess they will all pay for this," I tell her in a rage. "Now that's a promise I'll enjoy helping you keep," Adira snarls.

"Try to memorize every scent you pick up. We know what the pack smells like. We need to remember who is on our list to get our revenge," I tell Adira. Since she's a natural wolf spirit her ability to sort sounds and smells will be better than mine. All packs have 2 scents, their pack scent and individual scent. The White Moon pack scent is fresh falling snow. These scents are easy to filter out. We pick up grass, wood, fruit, and one scent we can't understand. It's like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, but I've never heard a pack scent like that. As the scent gets closer, we pick up another scent of vanilla cappuccino. "Oh my God, who is that delicious smell. I can smell my favorite things forever," I moan blissfully. "I know what's happening," Adira starts to prance excitedly. " It's our mate. Our mate is here. Only a mate can smell soooo good," she says in a sigh. "That means whoever he is, must be from a pack that's never visited White Moon before. Even if we weren't shifted yet, we'd still get a faint smell of it," I say in excitement. "It looks like we're getting out of here after all. There's no way our mate would allow the Alpha to sell what only he has the rights to do," Adira is also excited.

"Attention everyone," a cold voice sounds. "Alpha Jack has some announcements to make about why we are all here," I hear Beta Eric say. The excited voices all silence immediately. They can't wait to see what the Alpha has to say. "Now that you've seen the reason I invited you here, let me explain a little more," Alpha Jack starts. "This wolf isn't a rogue or lost from another pack. She's my own daughter, Renata White. I was just as surprised as all of you when saw her. That being said, she is also an Alpha female by birth. Her being a gold wolf just adds a little flavor to the plan," Alpha Jack says with a chuckle. "The reason we're here is to find a mate for my daughter. But with her status as a golden wolf, I can't allow her to leave my pack. So instead of a permanent mate, we're offering breeding rights. For the right price, of course," he says.

The room erupts in yells and roars. "What kind of monster sells his only daughter," a dark haired man yells. "How can we be sure what she births will be given to us," another man cries, looking at us with greed in his eyes. "This is borderline illegal, Alpha Jack. I cannot participate in such a thing," I hear from one of the few people I recognize, Alpha Matthew of the Moon River pack. "Alpha Jack, selling of wolves is prohibited under pack law. You must understand the trouble this can bring with the Council," Alpha Matthew tries to convince the rest.

"Yes, selling wolves is illegal," Alpha Jack admits. "But technically I'm not selling her since she's not leaving my pack. I have that right as her father since I have no male heirs. Her future mate will have to stay here anyway. And I'm not selling her pups either. What we're offering is more like a stud fee. If she has a male, he goes to the father. A female will stay in the pack. Regardless of color.," He says confidently. "I've checked all the laws and there is nothing illegal about selling breeding rights. As long as it doesn't affect a true mating with her fated mate. Of course if he's here, the auction will be cancelled," he says with a dark look in his eyes.

"I really hope our mate doesn't announce his identity right now. The look in your dad's eyes tells me he won't survive if does," Adira says in fear. "We still don't know who it is though. He hasn't come near enough to identify him," I whisper to her. "Since he hasn't stood up for yet, it means he either doesn't recognize us as mates, or he doesn't want us," I finish sadly.
