Chapter 4 We Can Get Married

Eunice was pleasantly surprised to hear the answer.

She nodded to show that there was no other problem. "Then, let's get married."

"Sure! Do you want to go through the formalities of marriage at eight o'clock tomorrow morning?" Rodney suggested.

"Sounds great." Eunice nodded in affirmation. She had that idea as well.

Once they were officially married, she'd go to the Frazier Group to complete the inheritance procedures within the time frame her father requested.

After coming to an agreement, Eunice and Rodney exchanged contact details and scheduled to meet at eight, tomorrow morning. Thereafter, she left first.

As Rodney watched her walk away, a smile appeared on his lips. "I can finally be with you, Eunice," he muttered to himself.

Right after he finished his sentence, his phone rang.

He then took out his phone and saw that his good friend, Claud Pearson was calling him. "Claud, what is it?"

"Something happened, Rodney. Your daughter's disease is relapsing." Claud sounded really anxious.

He came from a long line of doctors. He and Rodney grew up together, and he was now a world-renowned all-around doctor. He owned a private hospital and a medical laboratory in Acosta.

"What?" Rodney exclaimed, visibly agitated. Trying to stay calm, he asked, "How's Kyla doing? Is her condition serious?"

"She was sent to the operating room just now. Two doctors and nurses are already preparing for the operation. I'm heading down to the pharmacy to get some medicine," Claud responded while he was on the way to the pharmacy. "Kyla is feeling pain all over her body. She's crying and saying that she wants to see you."

Hearing that last sentence broke Rodney's heart, and it brought him to tears.

He felt so sorry for Kyla. However, he knew that this wasn't going to help solve the problem, so he managed to calm down. After pondering for a moment, he came to a decision. "Claud, please look after Kyla for me. I'll come to Acosta to see her as soon as I'm done with my task for tomorrow."

"Leave it to me. Make sure to come here as soon as possible to accompany the kids, okay?" Claud understood the fact that Rodney was busy. There must be something very important that the latter needed to deal with, since he postponed his plan to go to Acosta.

"Okay," Rodney responded. He then thanked Claud and said a few more words before hanging up the phone.

After putting his phone away, Rodney thought of his children's lovely faces. However, the thought of his frail daughter made him feel guilty and sad.

After wallowing in sadness, he finally managed to compose himself and come up with a plan. He took out his phone and called Julius.

"Mr. Lawson." Julius greeted him over the phone.

"I'm going to Acosta to accompany Edgar and Kyla tomorrow. I'm gonna need you to do several things for me," Rodney replied.

"Got it."

Eunice had just gotten back to the hotel by hailing a cab. Inside the hotel lobby, she heard someone calling her name.

"Eunice, is that you?"

It was a voice she didn't recognize right away, but she stopped to see who was calling out to her.

Somewhere nearby, Rufus Mendez strode towards Eunice excitedly after making sure it was her.

The latter recognized him as well.

Because the Moore family and Mendez family had been friends for generations, Eunice and Rufus knew each other since childhood. Later on, they went to the same private primary school. After junior high, they didn't see or contact each other often. Over time, they lost touch.

Once he was standing in front of Eunice, Rufus saw just how beautiful she was. "Wow! You've become even more beautiful now, Eunice."

Having said that, he asked, "So, what brings you here?"

Encountering him here didn't excite or bring her any form of joy. "I just came back to Orley and decided to stay here for a couple of days," she replied politely.

Rufus understood that and recalled the past. "Your father and stepmother said that you were pregnant by another man that year, and that you didn't deserve to marry me. So, they asked Estrella to marry me, but I didn't agree to it. When I went to your house to look for you, you were already gone. I asked some of your friends and classmates where you might've gone, but they all didn't know about your situation, so..." He really wanted to know how Eunice was doing. "Are you living with that man?"

"No. I take care of my child alone," answered Eunice.

She didn't know the man who slept with her three years ago, and she held no feelings for him. At times, she'd think of what had happened that night and it always left her confused, so she rarely ever cared about that man.

And she didn't care about Rufus' statement. Whether he had married Estrella or not had nothing to do with her.

Rufus was shocked to hear that Eunice was a single mother. Then he became excited. With an air of expectancy, he said, "Wait, you're not married yet? We can get married right now. I'll marry you."
