Chapter 3 Ask For Divorce

Rebecca drifted in and out of consciousness twice. When she completely awakened, it wasn't daybreak yet.

The man was asleep, and the driver was nowhere to be found.

Rebecca carefully opened the door. The moment she got out of the car, her knees buckled and she fell forward. She quickly dusted herself off, climbed to her feet, and staggered away.

She couldn't go back to the Swain family, and the Dixon family's house was sold to pay for the debts her father had incurred.

Fortunately, she still had her mother. Her mother divorced her father when Rebecca was just a few months old and left her to her father's custody. Her mother had a new family now, but she was the only family Rebecca had left.

As soon as Rebecca arrived at the door of her mother's home, she heard someone screaming inside. "Are you trying to get me to kill myself? Everyone knows that Martin Stevenson is blind, and he's a violent and crazy man. Some people even say that he's murdered someone. And you want me to marry him? Over my dead body! Get someone else to marry him! I'm out of here!"

Then, the door swung open, and a girl dressed in trendy clothes marched out.

It was Rebecca's half-sister, Rosina Lynch.

"Rosina! Get back here!" Rebecca's mother, Casey Santiago, followed Rosina out, but Rosina had already gotten into her car and driven away.

"Mom..." Rebecca stared at her mother, biting her lip and feeling uneasy.

It was only then that Casey realized that Rebecca was standing there. She looked at her other daughter in surprise. "Rebecca? What are you doing here? What happened?"

Casey was only right to be shocked. Rebecca looked miserable.

Hearing Casey's question, Rebecca couldn't hold back her tears anymore and sobbed. "Mom, Yosef wants to divorce me, and he just tried to kill me."

"What?"

Half an hour later, Rebecca finally finished telling Casey everything that happened. "So, because of the mess left by your father, Yosef is planning to divorce you on the grounds of your infertility? And because you overheard their scheming, he went and tried to silence you permanently?"

"Yes, that's right."

Casey frowned. "But what do your father's debts have to do with you? Do you want to take over Dixon Group?"

Rebecca lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling. "Dixon Group is the fruit of painstaking labor of his whole lifetime. I don't want to give it up."

Casey kept silent for a while and then said in a low voice, "But it is massively in debt, and the Swain family abandoned you. They even tried to take you out. Although my husband is relatively rich, I'm afraid we won't be able to protect you."

Casey bit her lip and continued, "But I have a way to discourage the Swain family from trying to touch you again. Maybe it can also solve the crisis of Dixon Group. I'm just not sure if you're up for it."

"What way?"

Casey cleared her throat and answered, "Do you know the Stevenson family? They're the wealthiest and most powerful family in the country. My husband plans for Rosina to marry into the Stevenson family, but she doesn't want to. As you saw earlier, she just ran away from home because of this matter. We have an appointment with the Stevensons in two hours. You can take Rosina's place."

Rebecca muttered with wide eyes, "You want me to marry into the Stevenson family? But Yosef and I haven't divorced yet. Just now, I heard Rosina say that the man you arranged for her to marry is blind."

Casey's eyes turned cold. "The Swain family is out to get you. You have to divorce Yosef. Don't worry. If you and Martin get married successfully, the Stevenson family will take care of the Swain family for you. And yes, Martin is blind. Is that a problem for you? Didn't you stick with Yosef after his accident and take care of him while he was disabled? You didn't have a problem marrying a cripple."

Rebecca felt cold all over and couldn't help shivering.

She thought what happened last night tossed her right into hell, but it seemed that things could get even worse.

"The Stevenson family is much powerful than the Swain family. Besides, you have no choice. The only way for you to get out of your current predicament is to marry into the Stevenson family."

Rebecca's eyes turned red. "But Mom, even though Martin is blind, he's from the Stevenson family. I am a married woman with nothing. Will he and his family want me?"
