Chapter 2 :Bumping Into Her

*A Few Hours Earlier*

Juliet, the supposed bride of Derek, was blinded by material things," Wow, I can't wait to flaunt l this wealth, I will bear the McCain name as my last name." She was so excited about the call.

Now she has no idea what bids the contract and the terms and conditions, she was just told she could get anything she desires at the flip of her fingers but must carry McCain's heir.

All tests have been conducted and she is very okay to proceed in signing the papers next to the court wedding before the white wedding will be announced worldwide and popular individuals will be invited as well.

Juliet received the papers and the document to fill after she was done reading, "Thank you so much Lawyer, Ben, I will go through it and then sign."

"Okay then, I shall wait." Lawyer Ben is the McCain family lawyer, he is one of the best in the country and just the rich can afford his services.

He is more loyal to McCain than any other and he has helped them win so many cases since his twenties, he was a good friend to the late Mr. McCain.

Juliet went through the document and blinked her eyes twice seeing the condition attached, she knew what she planned would no longer be possible.

Quickly she changed her mind without thinking about the wealth she will acquire through the marriage.

"Are you done signing the papers?" Lawyer Ben inquired with a smile and he prayed silently that she has signed it and does not plan to back out.

"You all are cruel, you want me to sacrifice the rest of my life to be with McCain without me enjoying my pleasure when he dies? I quit."

"I understand Miss Juliet, it's not a do or die affair but now you know the McCain little secret, you have to remain quiet about it otherwise_"

"I will get the red flag, I know that already, I will keep my mouth sealed and pretend I never met McCain, to hell with you all." She left the lawyer.

Lawyer Ben placed his hands on his waist looking up and down, "Another runaway bride, Mrs. McCain will be so worried if she learns about the news."

He informed his secretary on what to do next while he was absent for a few hours.

*Present*

"Mrs.McCain, Lawyer Ben is here and he is waiting in the living room." The maid informed her.

"What if she accepted, you can take your med after we find out."

Derek had a deep breath and left with his mother, seeing Lawyer Ben alone, he knew she backed out.

"Lawyer Ben, where is she?"

"Mom, isn't it obvious that she backed out already? What more truth do you need?"

"Your son is right."

"Why must this happen? Is there an unclean spirit in this household? Do we need cleansing? Should I get a shaman to bring in a good talisman?" Mrs. McCain was frustrated to the extent she said words that she never believed to mention someday.

"Oh mom, can you stop worrying, it's my life, after all, you called me the lonely God, I will die alone, and please give up on getting a bride for me."

"Watch your mouth son, you are not dying, please."

"Lawyer Ben, thanks for your time."

"You are welcome Derek, you should understand your mother is just worried about you and nothing more okay?"

"Thank you, I need to take my medications now so I can rest." He excused himself.

He entered his room with a bottle of water to take his medications.

"Should I be happy or sad?" He questioned his thought with his back resting on the wall and his hands on his chin with the right hand supporting the left elbow below.

He looked at the gift he purchased for his bride-to-be and felt the emptiness in his heart.

He pressed the blue button close to his bed leaving the wall to get the attention of the maid on duty.

The maid heard the bell ring and rushed to his room, "Sir Derek, what errand should I run for you?" She was polite with her eyes facing the floor.

"Get rid of those." He pointed at the gift.

"Yes, boss."

This is one of his little secrets, he always buys gifts for his new bride having the hope she will stay though he acts less concerned to his family and best friend.

He had his evening shower and went to bed dreaming of the once-upon-a-time happy love life he had before the doctor's report.

Derek woke up in the middle of the night sneaking into his late father's study room, he looked at his father's picture and had a sad smile on.

He recalled what the doctor said to him, "I am sorry to say this Sir Derek, but you got just two years to live, if other complications happen you might end up dying without getting to a month."

Derek fell to the ground crying out his eyes, "God, have thou forsaken me? Have you forgotten I exist? Why am I getting a reminder of my death?"

His eyes turned red, his face became pale and reddish as well, and he kept hitting his chest, "I have the money, the fame, why can't I fucking buy more years to live why?"

This time around, his voice got cracked and faint, and he was breathing hard, "I miss her, I miss my old life." He kept crying and dozing off in the process.

Mrs. Vera noticed the late McCain study room was slightly open, she decided to check and saw Derek fast asleep on the floor.

Mrs. Vera is also like a mother to him, she was the nanny who babysit him when he was an infant, and ever since then, she has loved him. She is the oldest maid that turned into a family in the McCain mansion and Mrs. McCain also shows her compassion and treats her like they are sisters.

She carried him with the help of the male hefty guards to his room as they placed him properly on the bed and she covered him with the blanket, "Good night son."

The next morning exactly at 5 am, Derek was awake, not bothered about how he got to his room, he concluded he must have slept and walked.

He washed his face and mouth, he got prepared to go out for his exercise as usual before he got set for work.

He turned on his iPod to listen to amazing songs while he exited the building.

Some families were jogging as well at the same lane in the estate, he admired those with their kids and wished he had his own family to take out jogging as well.

He wasn't focused and ended up bumping into a lady that was also jogging.

"So sorry miss, hope you aren't hurt?"

She raised her head and moved her face sideways, he swallowed saliva seeing her tempting pink lips, cute nose, captivating eyes that look like the sea, gorgeous face matched with blonde long hair, spotless skin, and the usual height for a female when she stood on her feet.

Expecting a harsh reaction from her, she disappointed him by letting out a beautiful smile.

Derek was mesmerized by her cute smile, his heart ached and he stood like a statue still admiring her cute smile.
