CHAPTER EIGHT: YOU GOT A CARD
She was about to toss her phone aside when there was an abrupt knock on the door. She first checked the time.
"What is it with all the workers here? Why are you at our door?" Not being able to control her anger, Haley called startling Cher from her sleep.
"Madam, it's urgent." A voice called.
"Everything can wait!" Haley replied but Cher woke up and simply walked to the door.
"You're Cher Lucille, you have a card." The lady handed her a card. Cher had managed to stay low key from the eyes of the public despite being a peace advocate.
"Yes, thank you madam." Cher took the card and closed the door before turning to Haley. "What's wrong with you Haley? Why are angry this morning?"
"Can't control myself!"
"What happened? Bad news?"
"He hasn't replied." Haley said holding her face in her arms. Cher said nothing, opened the card and went through.
"What?" she exclaimed.
"What?"
"Invitation to Helion over the current uproar." Cher threw the card at Haley who went read it aloud.
"Can I come with you? Just... a polite request." Haley asked.
"Sure." We have to be there by today evening. And before that, be at the palace for the king's signature and approval, am sure he will provide transport and security." Cher said scrolling through her phone.
"You mean we're going at the Wessels?" Haley asked.
"Where else?" Cher asked.
"And what are you doing on phone?" Haley asked.
"Booking an early appointment at the palace. We can't just walk in. And two, we need to order dressings online, we aren't going home." Cher said.
"Ok." Haley skimmed through the clothes and clicked. Cher made her order and the two went over to the bathrooms.
When they came back, the deliveries were already made. Haley had to get dressed while Cher took a notebook and sat down in her towel and started writing.
"What are you writing?" Haley asked.
"A letter to little Rollis." Cher said.
"I thought you were drafting your speech." Haley said.
"No... I have enough time for that at the palace." Obviously, Cher had gone to the palace more then once. Every time she had to visit other countries on matters of peace, it had to go through the King and she would be given a humble time to prepare. All cards came through the king since she was a country treasure. "It might take few days and he will miss me. I'll call in the evening and talk to him."
After writing and sending it off, Cher got in to dress.
Moments later...
Their hair hang freely on their backs, though Cher's was extraordinarily long, in black high waist skirts and black heels, the two ladies left Dan Star hotel, entered the Bugatti and drove to the palace after the appointment had been accepted.
"Welcome madam Cher." After two hours' drive the two ladies entered the precious palace of the Wessels. It was as silent and peaceful as ever.
"At last we're here." Cher sighed while still inside the car.
"I've never been here." Haley said.
"But you love someone from here." Cher laughed.
"Don't make a fool of me." Haley complained.
"Come on, let's get out."
Even the guards gasped when the two stepped out. Their slender smooth legs shone in the bright sun and their calm faces won everything. Cher grabbed her notebook while Haley came out with her small handbag.
"A sort of paradise." Haley smiled.
"People rarely get chances to be here. But, we're lucky." Cher said.
"On business matters, right? Don't even make such a lame joe Cher. You've been here more than enough." Cher said.
"But why are so emotional today? Not taking jokes, just serious?" Cher turned around. "Listen, many times I've been here but, I've never met the prince."
"What? You mean he's never available?" Haley asked.
"That's not what I mean, am always here on business and not to meet the prince." Cher smiled and walked ahead. Haley frowned. "Follow me dear." Cher called at Haley who had remained standing. A guard then led them in.
The king was already waiting for them and was surprised when he saw a third party, whom he didn't know.
"His majesty, she is Haley, my very close friend, like a sister to me." Cher smiled.
Haley bowed and greeted the King. After which they sat down and waited for the next step. The king walked upstairs and left them alone.
"Ooh... there is enough comfort here Cher." Haley, who was never serious even when she was supposed to be lay on the seat.
"Mmh... a place worth to be. Why not just marry the prince so that I will coming here for comfort daily?" Cher joked which got Haley unaware and she sat upright. What they didn't know was, Cruz was on his way from Declan's study room with important files, heard the words and what the girls heard were files falling on the stairs.
"Ooh sorry," Cher reacted faster and went over to help Cruz with collecting the files.
"No need madam. Am sorry for startling you." Cruz said.
"Not a big deal." Cher handed him the files which was now in her hand.
"Umm..." Cruz wanted to speak but the king was coming down. So, he excused himself and left. Cher was called upstairs by the king. After giving Haley a peck and told her to be calm, she wanted to leave.
"For how long Cher?" Haley asked.
"It does depend. Half an hour or so." Cher said.
"Just seated waiting?" Haley asked.
"You can walk around, ask anyone anything, no one will turn you down ok? You have to learn how to survive at such places girl... I won't be with you all day Helion. Find a way to keep yourself busy." With that, Cher left.
"Find what keeps you busy?" Haley laughed at herself. "Ok."
When she stood up to reach for the remote, Cruz was walking in with other set of files a keyboard and a tablet in company of another guard. Haley dropped the remote and pulled her skirt a bit down.
"Sir, can I..." Haley started.
"Anything you like madam." Cruz replied.
"I am Haley Jenna." Haley finally introduced herself bowing respectfully. She was just acting out this time to pass a minute or two. Didn't Cher say she should find what makes her happy?
"Am Cruz."
"Actually am Cher's sister... umm... not biological really. And, isn't she a common visitor here?" Haley asked.
"Yeah... many a times she comes here. Very nice talking to you Miss Haley." Cruz said. "am sorry I have to deliver this."
"Not a big deal." Haley smiled and now picked up her bag.
"Miss, are you leaving?" Cruz asked.
