Chapter 5 Leila

pregnant

After leaving with Shawn, I tried not to let my mind wander away from what he was saying and made sure I responded accurately.

He took me to a restaurant where he claimed it was a surprise date. He wanted to know everything about the party and why I wasn't with the friends the next day.

"I'm not too sure about everything, one moment I was dancing and drinking with my friends, the next moment I was waking up at Quantum hotels." I explained.

"Seems like you had a wild night."

"If my hangover doesn't convince you, I don't know what else will." I told, knowing fully well that he wasn't there to witness it.

"Was anyone with you when you woke up, they might have an idea about your night." He suggested.

I knew there was no use asking anyone because even if I did, they wouldn't say anything.....I remembered how strangely the man who brought my food acted when he felt like he'd said too much.

"No, I woke up alone. I actually thought you and the girls were pranking me."

"You're my girlfriend, I wouldn't do that to you. And besides, I'd rather spend the night with you instead of letting you sleep alone in a strange place."

I looked everywhere except at him feeling guilty for my actions. And if he noticed, he didn't say anything about it.

We moved on to much more comfortable topics about our future and parents. I tried my best to look excited for it.

My mind kept going to the possibility that the stranger I might have had sex with didn't use a condom and the fact that I haven't used a plan b drug.

Immediately my date with Shawn was over, I called Riley who came to meet me and together we went to a pharmacy where I got the drugs. After taking it, I felt a little bit better and relieved, canceling the chances of getting pregnant.

Since the said person I was married to didn't show, I believed he also was drunk like me....I can't believe my first time having sex was with a drunk person.

Weeks later, I was back to my normal self. Nobody was claiming to be married to me which was good and my relationship with Shawn was great.

"Are you sure you are okay, cos you look a little pale?" Riley asked.

"I thought I was the only one who noticed. Did you fight with Shawn?" Alex said.

"No, I'm fine. Probably just stressed from reading, you know how I get when I'm stressed."

That wasn't a complete lie, but it wasn't true either. I've thrown up twice today but of course I can't tell them that.

Riley convinced me to go to the hospital for a check up so here we are, waiting for our turn.... basically my turn but since we came together.

"Leila Andrew." The nurse called.

"Yes ma'am."

"The doctor will see you now."

Glancing slowly at Riley making sure my worries were obvious. I didn't know if I should be worried or if what I was thinking was right despite taking drugs for it.

After I told the doctor what was wrong, he just smiled and gave me a pregnancy kit and gave me the instructions.

"Sir, I can't be pregnant."

"We're not sure, that's why we need you to take the test."

The test came out positive, breaking my nerves and left me doubting everything I had believed to be wrong.

"Congratulations, you're three weeks pregnant."

I let out a shaky laugh, fighting the tears that were threatening to spill.

"You're mistaken, that's not for me." I cried when I couldn't hold it anymore.

The doctor explained how the pregnancy kit works but I refused so he ended up taking my blood for a test.

"It's the same thing." He announced, after a while.

I broke down in tears immediately, while he did nothing but stare at me in pity. I'm sure he had a lot he wanted to say like why didn't you use a condom if you didn't want a baby.

Riley was called in, and she tried her best to comfort me which got me to actually stop crying.

"Leila, you have to stop crying. It'll do you more harm than good if you keep it up." She said.

Just when I thought my life was great again, I received this nerve wrecking news. How was I supposed to cope now?

"Me, Leila Andrew was pregnant by someone I didn't know. Could my life get any worse?" I thought.

We got to the house and though I'd stopped crying, I didn't say anything to anyone and when they asked what was wrong, I just went straight to my room, locking the door behind me. I trusted Riley to keep quiet and not say anything also.

Out of frustration, I screamed into the pillow like my present condition was its fault.

My phone kept going off but I ignored it, not in the mood to answer their unending questions which by no doubt will disappoint them.

I successfully spent the whole day locked up in my room despite the pleas from my friends to open the door even if it was to eat something.

"Just leave me alone, okay." I yelled.

"Lei, it's Alex and I know something is going on but at the end of everything it's your choice if you want to tell us or not. But you shouldn't starve yourself."

When she noticed I wouldn't reply, she continued.

"I'll leave the plate of food here, you can carry it when I leave." She suggested, and the next thing I heard was her retreating footsteps.

I stood up to go take the food since I was hungry. I'll eat now and think of a way out of my problems. It cannot be that hard or can it?
