Chapter 7 The Proof

The doctor immediately approached Audrey. Her face was smiling, she looked relieved that Audrey had finally returned with someone who could save Jack's life.

When Audrey finished talking to the doctor, Chris grabbed Audrey's arm roughly.

"What did the doctor say?" asked Chris.

"You will be taken to a blood transfusion facility, I hope this is the last time I see you," Audrey said, then slapped Chris's hand from her arm. She didn't want Chris to touch her. Just remembering his actions, Audrey seemed to be having a nightmare while awake.

"Can't you tell me, did I ever do anything bad to you so you could bear my child?" Christian insists.

"I told you, there's no need to know anything. Mr. Chris, please follow the doctor, and go to the room that has been indicated. Your child needs you. Once again I thank you for being willing to save Jack."

Audrey pushed Chris's chest, she didn't want to linger over something that didn't matter to her. For her, Chris is a page of dark life that must be thrown away, not to be remembered, no matter how deep the pain feels. It's useless, completely useless.

Chris was still looking at Audrey's face. She really didn't want to open her mouth, and he had to find out for himself what Audrey and his previous relationship were. He didn't feel like he'd ever done anything with Audrey, though her face was very familiar to him.

"You'll regret it if I find out myself and find out the truth," Christian threatens as he leaves the place where he was talking to Audrey.

Audrey didn't care, as soon as she could get out of that small town and find another place to live, find a job, and try to live as peacefully as possible with Jack.

It is certain that this time there will no longer be Christian's name present in her life. She just wants to live a quiet life, to live life without being overshadowed by the fears of the past that have not been completely forgotten.

Christian follows the doctor, he goes into a room and is asked to lie down while some needles are placed in his hands to draw blood.

"No history of illness?" asked the doctor who was treating Christian.

"Nothing, I'm clean," Christian replies confidently.

For some reason Christian still thinks about the look on Audrey's face, who is so scared to see him, even looks disgusted when he touches her. One thing Chris couldn't understand, what was his mistake?

Audrey kept praying, that Jack would wake up soon and return to her as usual. Tomorrow she will immediately submit her resignation, she doesn't want to delay it any longer, she's sure Christian won't stay silent.

In Coopertowns, since Mrs. James died two years ago and she took her place, it's like she lost a mother who was always there for good or bad. How devastated Audrey was to find out that this woman had been harboring a deadly disease for years and never told her about it.

When Mrs. James died, she had no desire to go to work, didn't want to eat, and even Jack was almost ignored. She still remembers how caring the old woman was when she was pregnant. Mrs. James occasionally came to her house to bring vitamins and medicines needed for pregnant women.

About fifteen minutes later Audrey saw Chris coming out of the room where the blood donation was. His hand was wrapped in a small bandage. Chris looks a little tired, the effect of the blood draw.

Audrey put a faint smile on her lips, grateful that Chris was still kind enough to give his blood to her only son.

"My job is done," Chris said coldly to Audrey.

"Thank You. I'll make sure you won't see us again after this," Audrey replied confidently.

Chris tilted his head and looked Audrey in the eye without blinking, then said, "You think it's that easy to get away from me?"

"Wh-what do you mean?"

"Our business isn't finished yet, Miss. You still have to give me a logical explanation," Chris whispered.

"Please, whatever it is, just pretend there's nothing to explain. I'm really tired," replied Audrey again.

"Not that easy. I'm going back to the office, but I'm sure in a few days time, I'll find the answer. Then be prepared I will make you lose everything, if I find out the truth."

"Chris, can't you be nice to me without asking anything in return?"

Chris was surprised to hear Audrey say his name like she had known him for a long time. He was still wondering who Audrey really was.

"I go first. Do you want to come with me or do you want to go alone to get your car which is parked in my building?"

"No need, I can take it myself," said Audrey.

Her brain couldn't think straight thinking about Chris' words just now. What will he do after this? Hadn't she suffered enough for the past seven years? She didn't even ask for anything in return, why did Chris seem to not want to just let him go.

Chris approached Lody who was leaning on the car and enjoying a cigarette. Lody who saw Chris approaching her already knew what to ask after this.

"Lody," Chris called.

"Here," said Lody while handing Chris something to throw, Chris swiftly caught the object Lody threw at him.

"Why did you give me this roll of haircuts?"

"For test," Lody answered shortly, and Chris understood what his assistant meant. Apparently when Chris was in the room to donate his blood to Jack, he secretly entered Jack's room and asked the nurse to cut Jack's hair. It wasn't that easy because the nurse had refused, and Lody had to be a little threatening.

"That girl knows?"

"Of course not, you think she'll let me cut her son's hair?" asked Lody.

Chris smiled triumphantly, soon he would find out all the truth that Audrey had been hiding from him all this time. He had said it several times, even though Audrey wouldn't open her mouth, she could easily find out for herself what she was hiding. There's never been a failure for Chris!

"One more thing for you, find out who that woman is. Look for the data in the old files of employees who have resigned. HR must have the files. I don't think she's the prostitutes you've ever hired for me, because from the way she talks, and interacts with me, she seems really scared. I'm sure something has happened before that, so she could have a child from me," said Chris.

"It is very easy to find information about the woman. If you knew it, would you marry her?"

"Tck, I married her? Yes, I will marry her, when there is no more woman I want to sleep with in this world. Understand?" Chris replied with a snort.

Married?

Just hearing this words made Chris's stomach ache. Can't imagine, he is having to get married, then have a married life like his parents? Get that shit away!

"Don't you want to have a normal life like everyone else, Mr. Chris?" asked Lody again.

"Nope. Do you think my life is not normal?" Chris asked back.

It never crossed his mind to get married, let alone seeing his parents's married life which he thought was very scary, he didn't want to have a life like that.

"Your life is far from normal, Sir," answered Lody briefly but made Chris think.

"If it's true that the child is mine, then I don't think I need to get married just to have children. I guess even so, my life has become a bit normal, right?" asked Chris again.

"It's still abnormal," answered Lody, not caring about Chris's gaze that seemed want to swallow him whole.
