Chapter 9 : Who are you

"You missed him?" His voice was like a low growl.

The subordinate quickly got down on his knees trembling. "Just as we were going to get him, a girl came out and saw him. Next moment she screamed and that attracted a lot of attention. Before we could react, there was a crowd and the ambulance came in and took him away."

"And at the hospital?" It was the man's secretary.

"She stayed with him all the time, so she might be the girlfriend. So we could not do anything."

"Scared of a little girl are we?" The secretary snapped his fingers and two men dressed in black suits came and took the kneeling guy away.

"Please give me another chance, please sir" His voice echoed the hallway as he was dragged away.

"Ryan got the CCTV footage from the club, it would be easy for him to figure something is amiss. He is going to be on guard. We might have to think about something else." The secretary passed on the tablet with the CCTV footage playing.

In a minute the tablet was smashed against the wall. "Find the girl. If she is the girlfriend, we have found the weakness" The man smirked.

When Ryan saw the footage, he was shocked too, but then he recognised the girl. It looked a bit suspicious.

"There is something you should know" He was not planning on letting Dan know, but after the footage, maybe there is more to the girl.

"What?"

"There is a strange rumour going around in this company that she is your family"

"What? How did that happen?"

"The way she was behaving with Teddy and....."

"And?"

"Well you did not particularly react to it. So people assumed she is close to you!!"

"Did she approach Teddy with a purpose? Get me all her details."

"Do you think she was sent by Jack?"

Jack, Jacob Lance, Dan's maternal cousin, was a shareholder in Andersons. Though they do not share the same retail space and there is a tough competition to take over each other. Their fight was an open secret in the family but nobody wanted to interfere. After all, it all still belongs to Andersons.

"Nah. I don't think he will be this reckless. This is some small fry."

Mia slept all day but was still tired. Finally, when she was awake, Lisa was in the room.

"Good morning. I mean evening..sleeping beauty!! Where were you last night, you naughty girl!!"

What?

"Hey hey hey! Don't just jump to conclusions. I was at the hospital!"

"What happened? Are you hurt?" Lisa quickly went up to Mia and was checking her for injuries.

"Not for me, silly!" She held Lisa by the shoulders. "I was helping someone"

She told Lisa everything that happened after she exited the club. The next day they went shopping. Since Mia did not have confidence in her fashion sense, she let Lisa decide the dresses for her. She got 2 pairs of pantsuits, a few skirts and blouses, and a good bag. It still cost her a fortune. She could not spend too much since she needed to save some for the deposit when she rents a room. She has not yet started house hunting. She had asked for another month's extension to her dorm. That's the maximum they would allow. By the time they reached back at the dorm it was already late afternoon. Mia took a shower and went to bed.

"Hey what do you think you are doing?"

"I am just going to take a nap. Call me for dinner!"

"We are going out for dinner"

"What? Again?"

"Remember the vouchers I won? It's today!"

"The new restaurant? I don't think we will get any seats. C'mon, we might have to be in a queue for hours..."

"No, these coupons get preference. There were just 30 of them and we are the lucky ones!"

After a few hours of rest, they went to the new restaurant. Lisa was all dolled up, but Mia did not bother. And as Lisa said, soon as they reached and displayed their coupons, they were led in. Lucky for them , they got a seat close to the kitchen and could see the famous chef in action.

"You know, he is really young, very handsome and rich!" Lisa was already floating in her fantasy.

"Yeah! Yeah!" Mia could not care less. But as she looked in the direction Lisa was pointing, she was taken aback.
