Chapter 3 I Want a Divorce

"The beautiful pianist, Nancy Andrew, has been back in China for a week now, and there's been non-stop news about her. Our reporter filmed her returning to her apartment with a mysterious man last night..." The latest entertainment news was reported on TV.

Sofia sat there as if she was watching the TV very seriously. The expression on her face was so calm that one couldn't tell what she was thinking about, and Harry Smith and Howard Smith were watching her somewhat nervously.

At this time, footsteps came from upstairs, and Henry came down from upstairs. Sofia immediately picked up the remote and turned off the TV. Then she got up as if nothing had happened and walked towards Henry.

"Breakfast is already prepared. You go to the dining room first and wait for a while, I'll go to call grandma and mom and dad to come over for breakfast." Sofia quickly stopped looking at Henry and was going to leave.

"No. I'll go to call grandma to have breakfast." Harry looked at the awkward atmosphere between the couple and immediately found an excuse to disappear from the living room.

"Then I'll go to find Mom and Dad." Howard wisely followed Harry and disappeared from the living room as well.

Henry took a glance in the direction they left, and then looked at and asked Sofia who was a little bit distracted, "Do you have something to say?"

Sofia looked up at Henry and nodded gently, "Let's wait until everyone is here. There are some words I don't want to repeat. Let's go to the dining room first."

Sofia turned around and walked towards the dining room. Henry thoughtfully looked at her back and silently followed her.

Soon after, Harry helped old Mrs. Smith walk in, and the others also walked in one after another.

"Good morning, grandma. Good morning, Mom and Dad." Sofia greeted the elders as she brought breakfast to the table together with the maids.

Old Mrs. Smith nodded. After she sat down, the others also sat down one after another.

"Let's have breakfast." Old Mrs. Smith spoke as if giving an order.

"Grandmother, Mom, Dad, I have something to say." As soon as Old Mrs. Smith finished speaking, Sofia said calmly. It was unusually clear in this quiet morning and attracted everyone's attention. Sofia ignored them and calmly looked at Old Mrs. Smith, "I want a divorce!"

The dining room was unusually quiet, and if a pin was dropped on the floor, it could be heard. The atmosphere was somewhat oppressive, and everyone held their breath to look at Old Mrs. Smith.

"Henry, what do you think?" Old Mrs. Smith was too calm, so no one could see her inner thoughts.

Henry, who was called by his name, looked up at Sofia across him with his dark eyes, "Reason!"

"There's no reason." Sofia seemed to have anticipated Henry's reaction and just looked at him calmly.

They stared at each other. Neither of them actively said anything else. William Smith, who was on the side, jumped down from the chair and walked over to hug Sofia nicely, "Mom, if you and dad divorced, can I live with you?"

Sofia caressed William's head, lowered her head, and kissed him on the forehead and she smiled gently and said, "No matter how Mom and Dad's relationship becomes, we'll love you very much."

"But I want to be with you." William buried his head into Sofia's arms. His voice was a little muffled, making her feel distressed.

Sofia closed her eyes to sort out her emotions and was very calm when she opened her eyes, "William, you're a boy. Boys should be strong, so don't be so fragile. Sit back in your seat."

"William is still a kid. Do you have to be so strict with him?" Jennifer Smith, Henry's mother, was distressed to see William's being pitiful and unhappily accused Sofia, "I don't know what happened between you and your husband, but we Smiths have never treated you badly. When Henry wanted to marry you at first, I was very unsatisfied because you don't have a good family or property. I didn't even know anything about your past. But he insisted, and we gave in, but the Smith family isn't something you can just come and leave as you wish."

Sofia didn't retort, nor was she agitated or angry. She just hugged William and covered his ears so that he wouldn't hear the argument.
