Chapter 1 The Papers Are Lost

From morning's first light, the city began its bustling.

At the end of the alley, a strange person was running to a remote neighborhood. It was hot, but she wrapped herself in a cap, a mask, and a scarf, as well as a black coat and sunglasses. It was hard to tell if this person was a man or a woman in such an outfit.

However, judging from the size of the shoes, that should be a woman.

As she walked quickly, she would look behind her from time to time. She seemed unnerved as if she had done something wrong.

It was strange to wear so much in hot weather, so it attracted the attention of many passers-by. To them, it might be someone who committed a crime, maybe a murderer!

She was sweating profusely, and her hair was soaked in sweat and stuck to her forehead. She was gasping for breath. She was holding a folder in her hands. She wanted to reach her destination as soon as possible. Otherwise, she would get a heat stroke!

Timothy Soper banged on the desk. It was powerful enough to make the water vibrate. The veins on his forehead could be seen clearly when he snapped.

The secretary, who had been standing in front of the table with her head lowered, did not have the nerve to look him in the eye. Apparently, she was shocked by him. She said yes in a broken voice and left.

Timothy took a deep breath. He could feel nothing but anger by then. Now that he was gradually recovered, he found his swollen palm and felt the pain.

There would be an important business meeting today. Before Timothy arrived at the company, he called his secretary, Laura Ward, to get the papers ready. However, after a few minutes, Laura called again and told him that the classified tender was gone!

The tender was the efforts of several companies after days and nights, and the main topic of today's meeting. Timothy was the one to keep it.

But now it was gone!

The others would think that Timothy wanted to take it as his own by saying the papers were missing.

By the time Timothy arrived at the company, several leaders had arrived. They were told the news and showed their understanding. But in fact, they didn't believe it at all.

Timothy did not know what they would think of him, but the documents got lost in his company, and he should take the blame. This was undeniable, and Timothy had nothing to say for himself.

A man stood up, glanced at everyone present, and said, "Mr. Soper, with the papers lost, I think there is no need for this meeting. That's all for now."

He said what was in the others' hearts. After all, the Soper Group was the industry leader. Even if they were angry about it, they had to hide it down.

"This is the last thing we want to see. On behalf of my company, I apologize to you all, and I will make up for this."

There was no expression on Timothy's face, and something cold moved in his eyes. No one noticed that Timothy clenched his fist against the table. One could believe that the table would fall apart if it weren't made of real wood.

When the other people heard what the man said, they nodded their approval. But they didn't believe a word Timothy said. They soon left.

Timothy was now the only one in the big meeting room. He looked a little sad. He could do the tender again, but what about his reputation and dignity?

Timothy had never been more awkward than now! He lost his respect and reputation, and there was a great chance that his company would be affected too.

After shutting the door, Dorcas Tame panted as she took off her heavy outfit and paced on the floor in an old-fashioned room, longing for some cool air.

Her clothes had been soaked in sweat. And she was still perspiring heavily after a big mission as if she just came out of the sauna.

She checked the files in the folder to make sure she got what she needed. After all, she had taken a great risk to get it. Then Dorcas sneered and threw the folder on the bed. She walked into the bathroom for a shower.
