Chapter 2 The New Kid

At home,Jane was in the kitchen roaming through the fridge when June came inside.

"Are you looking for something?"She asked

"Nothing in particular"Jane replied.

June shrugged and sat down on a chair.

"Yunno,at times I do wonder how you stay quiet in school,but at home,you're something else."Jane said.

"I don't like talking that much to people."

"Unfortunately,you're being paired with River,Brooks High hottest guy."

"It doesn't mean anything."June shrugged.

"Oh,yes it does!To every girl in Brooks High,it means everything.Who wouldn't want to be paired with River?"Jane asked

"Well,I don't want to."

"I'm already jealous"Jane confessed.

"You don't have to be,there's nothing going on between us yet,neither will they be."June consoled.

"Yeah,I know but seeing you guys together in class today,felt as if I was not existing."

"I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do."

"Its okay,I'm fine with it."

"River is coming by 4,is that okay with you?"June asked

"Sure,why not?"

"Okay,I'll be in my room."said June

"Reading huh?Don't worry,I'll get you when he comes."

"Thanks"

Jane was sitting in the living room when the doorbell rang.She glanced at the wall clock and saw it was aready 4pm,which means River was here.She stood up and adjusted her clothes before heading to the door.She swung it open to reveal River.

"Hi!"she said smiling.

"Hey,babe!"he got inside and planted a kiss on her lips.

"Where's your sister?"he asked making his way to the living room.Jane slammed the door shut.

"She's in her room,but it wouldn't hurt if yunno......"she said wrapping her hands round his neck.River chuckled and dropped his books on the sofa before wrapping his hands round her waist.

"You sure bout that?"he asked as he leaned closer and kissed her neck.

"I'm positive."she replied and shut her eyes.

"Very well then,I'll see you when I'm done with your sister."he said and pushed her away.

"Why not now?"She asked frowning.

"I wouldn't ask that if I were you."he replied and sat down.

"Can you get me your sister,pls?"he added

"Fine!"She walked up the stairs to June's room and unlocked the door going inside.June was sprawled out on the floor sleeping,books scattered about her.Jane smiled at the sight in front of her.Her sister was always reading.

"June,June,wake up."She said hitting her lightly.June stared in her sleep and opened her eyes.

"River is waiting."

"Oh,I'll be down in five."

"I'll tell him so"Jane made for the door and walked out.

June sighed and stood up.She entered the bathroom and splashed water on her face.She then tidied her room and arranged the bed.Having done that,she carried her laptop and some books before heading downstairs.

She came downstairs and met River and Jane chatting.They stopped once they saw her.

"Hi,June!"River said smiling his million dollar smile.As usual,she said nothing but sat down across from them.

"I'll leave you guys to study."said Jane and stood up.She pecked River before walking away.

When she was gone,River came to where June was sitted and sat next to her.June shifted away and pulled the center table closer.She dropped her books and laptop on it before turning to River.

"Do you have a laptop?"she asked in a soft voice.

"Yes,but I left it at home."he replied looking at her.

"We'll use mine then."She powered on the computer and brought out a book.

"What do we start with first?"he asked

"Sea creatures starting from A."

"Okay."

After what seemed like forever but was only two hours,they rounded up their work.River stood up and packed his books

"So,when next are you coming?"She asked

"Missing me already?"he asked cockily.

She rolled her eyes and said nothing.She packed her books silently and made to leave.

"I'll be here on Friday"he replied.She nodded and made to leave.

"Wait!Can we be friends?"asked River sticking his hand out.She stared at it before walking past.River was dumbfounded.No girl had ever turned him down.He cursed within himself and swore to pay her back.He clutched his books in his hand and walked to the door,without remembering his appointment with Jane.

The next day in school,which was a Tuesday,June as usual walked in through the gates,clutching her books in her arms with her bag slung over her shoulders.Her head was bent low,which made her bump into someone,her books scattering on the floor.

"I'm so sorry."she apologized and bent down to pick her books.

"I should be the one apologizing."Said the person and also bent down to assist her.When he was done,he stood up and dust the books before giving it to her.

"Here you go"he said smiling

"Uhm,thanks."she said and made to leave.

"I'm Simon,by the way."he introduced.

She nodded and made to leave.Simon was a transferred student to Brooks High.June did not spare him a glance as she entered the hallway.

The bell rang ten minutes later and students hurried to their classes in order not to be late.

"Sit down everyone.I'll be taking you on Calculus.I'm Mrs Baker."Mrs Baker said and wrote something on the board.

Few minutes into her teaching,the door opened and someone came inside.Heads turned to the intruder.June was surprised to see Simon.They made eye contact and Simon smiled.

"Are you the transferred student for this class?"asked Mrs Baker.

"Yes ma'am"Simon replied.

"Introduce yourself."Mrs Baker ordered.

"I'm Simon Parkers,and I'm a transferred student from LA."

"Get seated"

He saw an empty seat next to June and sat down.

"Hey!"he said smiling.She glanced at him and said nothing.

"I never got your name"he added

"Don't bother,she won't tell you."said a voice from behind.Simon turned to see it was her twin.

"Are u guys twins?"he asked rhetorically

"Yes,and I'm Jane."Jane said smiling.

"Is there anything you'll like to share with us Archer?"came Mrs Baker's voice.

"No ma'am".

During lunch time,June was at a table alone eating her fries when Simon joined her.

"Hey!'he said

"Can't you get the hint?" She thought.

"What do you want?"she asked instead.

"Finally,you replied back."Simon said smiling.She continued eating.

"I just want us to be friends."

"I don't wish to be anybody's friend."So saying,she packed her tray and left.Some of the students mocked Simon.
