Chapter 6 AFTER THE ACCIDENT

Voltaire's POV

"Melissa? Where's Melissa?! Tell me, where's my wife?!!!" I kept on yelling to the doctors and maids that were standing all around my bed.

My head was covered with a bandage and so my left arm and leg. I tried to sit up but my whole body feels numb. "S-Sir, please don't move yet. The doctor said that you need to take some rest for at least a month," said George, my secretary.

"I said where the hell is my wife?! Where's Melissa?!!!"

All of them looked away as if averting my gaze and ignores to answer my question.

"S-Sir, w-we're so sorry to tell you, but after the plane crash, your wife's body couldn't be found already. We tried to find her but we can't really find her boy except for the bracelet that we found. But don't worry, Sir. The police officers are trying to find her now..."

"W-What?!!!"

"The investigators believe that maybe she has been down the cliff where the plane crashed."

I tried to stand up again but my feet just won't move. "Melissa! Melissa is alive! I'll find her! She can't die! I'll find Melissa!!!"

"Sir..."

"Let me go! I have to find Melissa! I need to find my wife!!!"

"Sir, please calm down. The police officers are already looking for Mrs. Farusco. They are going to do everything just to find her. Please calm down, Sir."

I looked at him with my sharp eyes and grabbed him by his collar. "Calm down, huh? Calm down?!! How can I fucking do that if I can't find my wife?!!!"

"Sir..."

"I will find Melissa!! I will find her! I can't live without her! I need to find Melissa!!!"

"Mr. Farusco, you have a meeting with Mr. Moden at 2 pm. Would you like me to just cancel that?" George asked.

I looked around the mountain once more before looking at him. "You don't have to, I will meet him."

He got surprised. "S-Sir, are you sure?"

"It's been one year now, George. I still go here every single day just to see if she'll come back or maybe she's just here waiting for me, but I always cannot see her. Do you think it's time for me to give up now?" I asked him.

"P-Personally, Sir... I really understand why you can't move on. You've been with Miss Melissa for years and you have children. It won't be easy for you to forget her but I think you finally need to move forward and accept the fact that she won't come back. You have your children who need you and leans on you so you need to be strong, you need to show them that they still have you because if you go cry and mourn every single day, they would probably get sad too and lose hope."

I heaved a sigh. "You're right. Though I still hope that she's alive. I still hope that someday she would show up and come back to my arms, to our children. I don't think I would still be able to love anybody else except Melissa."

"Yes, Sir."

"I'll just go back here tomorrow." I spoke. "Let's go now."

I glanced around us for the last time before we finally started leaving. After the plane crash, I became paralyzed for almost one year, I was miserable, lying on my bed all day while crying because I couldn't even look for my wife. I became grumpy, I often yell at my children too and most of the time I don't eat because I thought that maybe I should just die too since Melissa's already gone.

But then whenever I see our kids, they remind me of her. They remind me of my promise to my wife that I will take good care of them. I know Melissa wouldn't like it if she see me shouting at our kids each single day and seeing me miserable. I dreamt of her where she told me that she's already happy from where she is and she also told me to never give up and take good care of our kids. That awakened me, that made me strive harder.

I did physical therapies, I started eating healthy foods again, I no longer yell at our kids and somehow, little by little, I was able to go back to work again. I'm distracting myself from working so hard just so I wouldn't be able to think of my wife.

I know I have to be strong for our kids but whenever I see her photo, whenever I see something that reminds me of her, I feel so sad. If only I could go back in time, then maybe I shouldn't have asked her to go with me to that private island.

"Daddy! I got a perfect score in our exam!" Charlotte came running towards me one night when I just arrived from work.

"Oh really? That's cool." I said.

Charlotte's smile faded. "Aren't you happy for me, daddy?"

"Huh? I'm happy for you, honey. I'm so proud of you."

"But you don't seem like you are."

I knelt down and did eye-to-eye contact with her. "Daddy's just tired, okay? I'll just take a rest for a while then let's play tomorrow."

"If mommy is here for sure she'll be happy for me," she mumbled.

"I'm sure she will be."I smiled.

"Daddy, is mommy still coming back?"

"For sure she will, honey. Mommy will come back for us. She'll come back because she'll miss us. She loves us so much."

She pouted." I hope she comes back soon, I miss her so much already."

"Me too, honey.... I miss her so much."

There's not even a single day that she doesn't pop into my mind. Please, Melissa, come back now. We need you here, our kids need you here, I need you here.

I just waited for the kids to fall asleep before I went back to my room and cried because of how much I miss my wife.
