Chapter 5 HAPPY FAMILY

Voltaire's POV

"Mommy, just close your eyes," said Charlotte to her mommy.

Melissa looked at me. "Alright, alright. Looks like daddy prepared another surprise again, huh?"

"Huh? Did I? I did nothing..." I said, pretending to be innocent.

"Okay, let's just pretend you didn't ask them to do it."

I just laughed as I covered her eyes with my palm. I beckoned the children to prepare everything while I was guiding their mom to walk down the stairs. We walked towards the garden and there was a table filled with food that I cooked together with the kids. I also put Christmas lights on the trees and plants that surround the pavilion where the table was placed.

We also lit the pathway with artificial flowers, which I purposely asked my secretary to buy for me. Melissa loves flowers and surprises. She loves it whenever I surprise her, even when we were just in a relationship.

"You can open your eyes now, babe." I whispered in her ears.

"Okay. I will open my eyes now..." she said as she slowly opened her eyes. She looked around the garden and her mouth automatically went open upon realizing what we wanted to show her. "Oh my God... This is so beautiful. Did you do it all? Did you prepare it?"

I nodded. "Uh-huh, your handsome husband bought all the designs and flowers. Richard has been complaining because I kept on going in and out of the flower shop."

"Hahaha! You're silly."

"By the way, we want to say something to you. Kids?"

Charlotte and Cedric stood beside me, then we formed a heart shape all together as we spoke. "Happy Birthday, Mommy!"

"Hahaha! You guys are so cute! Thank you so much!" Melissa said as she came walking towards us and hugged the two kids.

"Mommy, I have something for you." said Charlotte.

"Me too, mommy!" Cedric added.

They both went to the table and took two small boxes of a gift under it. "This is my gift for you, mommy!"

Melissa was teary-eyed while she was opening their gifts. The first one from Charlotte was a bracelet made from beads and sequence. "I made that bracelet by myself, mommy."

"Oh, really? This is so beautiful honey, thank you so much!"

"This one is from me, mommy!" Cedric joined them in. His gift was a cute pink purse made from diamonds that Melissa used to adore whenever she sees it on TV or in magazines.

Her eyes automatically widened upon seeing that purse. "H-Honey, this is so expensive how were you-

"That gave me some money." Cedric retorted innocently.

Melissa glared at me, but I just shrugged.

"Oh well you two babies, thank you so much for your presents, okay? Thank you so much!" she said as she began showering the two kids with kisses.

"Will I have a kiss too?" I asked.

Melissa carried Charlotte and Cedric in both of her arms and made them sit on the chairs at the table that I prepared for the four of us. I walked towards them. "I want a kiss too, oh, but before that, let me just give you my presents first."

"Presents? You mean you have more than one?" she asked, confusingly.

"Uh-huh. The first one is here." I beckoned one of our maids to come and she handed me an envelope. I gazed at my wife and smiled. "Open it, babe."

She took the envelope from me and opened it. Her mouth went agape as soon as she saw what's inside. "Voltaire..."

"You've been dreaming to go to that private island, right? You've been telling me how much you want to go there and have a vacation. That's why I talked to its owner and we had a good agreement."

"A good agreement means you bought it for a very expensive price, right?"

I averted my gaze. "Well, it's not the case. What matters most to me is to see you happy."

"Voltaire, I already told you about not spending too much money on things that we don't really need, right? "

My brows furrowed. "I know that, but I just did that because of you. I want you to be happy, can you just be a little grateful?"

"Mommy, Daddy, are you fighting?" Charlotte asked.

"N-No, honey. We're not fighting." Melissa sighed before looking at me again. "I appreciate it, babe. Sorry for being so rude to you. I love you."

"I love you too."

Then she leaned closer to me and gave me a peck on the lips. "Thank you so much, babe. By the way, you told me that you have two gifts, right? What's the other one?"

And that brought me an enormous smile on my face. "Guess it."

Melissa stared at me, so I smiled at her while my brows were moving up and down. "Ah, I think I know it already. Is that gift really for me? Looks like you're the one who's going to enjoy it very much." she teased.

"No, not only me, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, too. I have new materials to use. And I also learned a lot of techniques." I said which made both of us burst into a burst of laughter.

"Mommy, what's the other gift of daddy?" asked Charlotte.

Cedric looked at both of us. "I think it's a Gameboy? I heard daddy learned new techniques so maybe they'll be playing some games later. Right, mom and dad?"

"Yes, baby. I and your mommy's going to play later. So please sleep early later and don't try to disturb mommy and daddy, okay?"

"Voltaire..." Melissa widened her eyes at me, but I just winked at her.

"I promise, daddy!"

"Me too! I promise I won't disturb you and mommy later!"

I smiled. "That's my kids! Now, can we start eating?"

"Yes!!!"

"Alright!"

With just one wave, our maids came out holding the food that I prepared a while ago.

"Don't tell me you also cooked these foods by yourself?" Melissa asked.

"Well, I asked for some suggestions and tips from our chef and these two little kids here helped me wash the ingredients too."

Tears started to fill her eyes. "Oh my God, this is too much. You guys are really sweet... I love you so much..."

"And we love you so much too, honey."

"We love you too, mommy!!"
