Chapter 7 You Need Some Training

"Mommy!"

The word flashed like lightning and hit Elise. It went straight to her heart, rendering her crisp and numb.

She had lost all chances of being a mother five years ago. But now, she could hear herself be called "Mommy" just because of a ridiculous contract.

She smiled bitterly, rubbed her eyes, and took a deep breath. "Okay. I'll help you."

Truth be told, it was quite easy to choose clothes for Eric. Although he had many clothes, they were the same style.

White shirts, blue suits, and red bowknots comprised his entire wardrobe. The only difference was in the print on the shirts.

While going through his belongings, Elise began to suspect that Eric's father really didn't know how to take care of his son. Otherwise, why would all his clothes be the same? The monotony must be for their convenience and not born out of Eric's choice. If such a handsome boy were her son, she would have bought all kinds of clothes for him.

"Ric, don't you have other kinds of clothes?" she asked.

"Huh? Mommy, do you mean those cute clothes?" Eric pulled a long face. "I don't need them. I think you should improve your taste."

Elise was helpless at this thought. After straightening Eric's bow, she sized him up. For some reason, she felt like he looked rather familiar.

He looked like a cartoon character.

She blurted out the name involuntarily.

"Edogawa Conan!"

The air seemed to freeze. The servants silently looked away, afraid that Eric was going to get furious any second now. They shrank back in fear.

Eric despised it when people said that he looked like Conan.

Even though it was the truth, he didn't want to hear it.

Surprisingly though, Eric merely frowned this time and took a deep breath. "Mommy, I think you need to read the employee manual. Angela, take her away. Let her have breakfast with me in half an hour!"

As soon as Eric gave the order, a maid walked out of the team of servants and led Elise out with a dedicated smile.

"Miss Ye, this is the employee manual. Please read it carefully."

"Wow. It's so thick!" The book was almost as thick as the Oxford Dictionary.

However, Angela seemed unfazed by its size. She told Elise in a relaxed tone, "This is only the first book!"

"What?" Elise opened the manual at random and saw that the pages were heavily printed in a small typeface. Suddenly, she regretted signing the contract. "Well, can I see Ric's father sometime? He should be home soon, right?"

"What do you want? Stop daydreaming! Mr. Li isn't someone you can bother!" Angela reminded her vigilantly. "I think it's best that you complete the manual as soon as possible. If Eric gets angry, we'll all be in big trouble."

"I..." Elise was about to say that she just wanted to talk with Eric's father about her being called "Mommy." She felt like although she was just a nanny, but this title could cause misunderstandings between her and Eric's father.

But before she could finish her words, Angela interrupted her ruthlessly.

"You have 28 minutes and 40 seconds left. I'm going about my work now. I'll take you to the dining room in half an hour. Don't talk too much, or you'll die with no notion of why."

After saying that, she left Elise alone to fight the manual. The more Elise browsed through it, the more she got a headache. She felt that being hired by a child to be his mother was a highly unreliable and risky job.

In the living room, the butler was talking with Shepherd on the phone.

"Sir, Eric has hired a woman as his mommy today."

"I see." Shepherd seemed indifferent.

"I conducted a simple investigation. Shall I send her information to you, sir?"

"No, it's just a playmate." His attitude was still casual and then came the sound of papers being flipped.

The butler was used to this. However, he recalled something from the contract. "Sir, I think this woman may have an ulterior motive."

"It'll be good for him to learn a lesson." There was a silence on the other end of the phone. The butler understood it and ended the conversation.

Upon reaching the dining room thirty minutes later, Elise frowned after seeing that the entire table was laid with all kinds of dishes.
