Chapter 4 His Betrayal

But then, she put her hand down.

Room 105 was the apartment that Michael rented. They both knew each other since high school, so she often visited him. Since she liked him, Harlow had given up on her dream of joining an art school and took up the business course, instead. She hoped that it would bring them closer to each other in the future.

During their first semester at the business school, Michael had asked to have sex with her, but since Harlow was a conservative woman, she had refused him. She wanted to wait until they were married to have sex, but now that her virginity was lost, she wondered if he would forgive her if he learned about it.

She often read about such topics online and learned that some men really valued a woman's virginity. If Michael learned that her virginity was taken by a stranger at a bar, would he abandon her like those men in the articles?

Harlow hesitated for a moment before she reluctantly paced back and forth. At first, she wanted to throw herself into his arms and pour her heart out, but now, she was scared to face him.

"You are so annoying!"

While her heart was twisting itself into a knot, Harlow heard a woman's familiar voice.

"Isn't that something that you find charming?"

She heard someone's familiar voice. This time, it was a man's. Upon hearing that, she forgot all about explaining things to Michael and rushed to a corner, to hide.

She heard footsteps approaching, the sound of the door opening and laughter.

Harlow peeked out from the corner to look at them, but she could not, so she tiptoed her way to the apartment and gently pushed the door open a little and glanced inside.

The room was dark and not as bright as she had expected it to be. Clenching her fists and gritting her teeth, Harlow wondered, 'Why has Lainey come back with Michael at this hour?'

All of a sudden she heard Lainey's laughter. "You are so naughty..." Lainey said.

"Babe, I love you," Michael said.

Harlow's heart sank as she stood in the darkness, listening to their laughter, and the sound of the bed shaking.

She then walked downstairs in a daze and crouched down at the community's garden area, in tears.

In just a few unfortunate hours, Harlow had lost both her virginity that she had preserved for so long to a stranger and the man she loved. She had always thought that she would be the happiest bride in the world as she offered the purest part of herself to the man she loved, but now, she felt like she had nothing.

Harlow had lost everything overnight.

She felt like a child that was abandoned by its parents as she hid in the corner, licking her wounds.

She sat in the garden, crying for an entire night until her eyes became red and swollen.

As daylight came, people began moving around in the community. The cleaning staff began working and some people went for a jog while others came out to shop for groceries.

Harlow quietly stood under the big tree in the garden outside Block C, looking at the main gate. She knew that Michael left to college every day, at exactly 7:30 a.m. She wanted to ask him the reason he had soiled their relationship by cheating on her. After all, Harlow wanted to get some closure before she made her next move.

As soon as the clock struck 7:30, Michael walked out of the building. Lainey leaned onto his shoulder with a smug smile.

"Michael!"

Harlow shouted to him from a distance.

Upon hearing that, the smile on Michael's face froze as he tried to remove his arm from around Lainey's waist.

Lainey grabbed his arm, raised an eyebrow at him, and said, "You know what to do... Don't you?"

Michael playfully pinched her waist and said, "Don't you worry, my queen! Just give me three minutes and I'll handle this."

Lainey smiled with satisfaction as she let go of his arm. She then cast a scornful glance at Harlow and whispered in his ear seductively, "I'll go get the car then."
