Chapter 7 Got Hurt

At this moment, Burke's grandmother was really angered. She turned to look at Burke and said in a dissatisfied tone while pointing at Amanda, "Burke! What is your relationship with this woman?" Burke's grandmother knew him well. He was a serious and disciplined person ever since he was little. So she didn't think that he would do something to hurt Rose. That was why she didn't expect that Amanda would suddenly appear. After all, this was a family gathering, and Amanda was obviously an outsider.

Before Burke could answer, Sue, who had been watching the scene, suddenly spoke up, "Well, Mom, why are you immediately putting the blame upon Burke? You're the one who raised him up, so you should know him better than anyone else." She put her soft hands on the table and sneered, "Miss Zhao's appearance today may not be Burke's fault. Maybe it is because someone has been an unqualified wife..."

Sue wanted to say more, but on second thought, she decided to shut her mouth. However, she glanced at Rose's direction meaningfully.

It seemed that her words just worsened the mood in the dining room. But since she didn't like Rose as a daughter-in-law in the first place, she was glad to see Rose in an unfavorable situation.

She always took great pleasure in Rose's misfortune.

Of course, Rose understood what Sue meant by her words. But she bit her lower lip hard to restrain herself from talking back. For her, this whole scenario was ridiculous. They were having a family lunch, and Burke brought another woman to embarrass her in front of the family. Sue, who was supposed to scold Burke for what he did, seemed delighted and even teased her sarcastically. Grievance and anger surged up in her heart, and her face gradually turned white as a sheet.

Burke looked at Rose's pale face in front of him. She had always been a good-natured person. For him, she was gentle and kind. He rarely saw her lose her control like this. The only time he could remember that she got so mad was when he questioned her for not coming home two nights ago. He was so furious when he couldn't find her, so he said those harsh words to her. At that time, he saw how her body trembled with anger. Her slim body shivered as if she could not withstand even a slight blow.

Rose didn't come home the whole night. At the thought of this, Burke's expression instantly changed, and his eyes turned cold. He had lost his self-control many times because of her. He would never allow himself to be out of control again.

Burke held back the inadvertent softness he felt towards Rose. He raised his head and looked into her eyes indifferently.

"Burke..." Rose uttered in almost a whisper. She gripped the edge of the table tightly to steady herself and tried to conceal her emotions as she opened her mouth. "Let's talk about these things later privately. Today is our family lunch. Don't ruin Grandma's mood for an outsider."

Burke felt like Rose was using his grandmother to threaten him. He frowned and got irritated at once. No one had ever controlled and suppressed him.

"Rose, who are you referring to?" Amanda suddenly asked Rose. When she glanced at Burke and saw his exasperated expression, she became more confident. She held his arm tighter, put on a pitiful look, and continued, "I bet you don't know how much Burke and I know each other. We met ten years ago. And since then, we've been in a good relationship. Considering that, I don't think I'm still an outsider. Besides, I've had meals with the Gu Family many times. But if you don't really like me, I understand. Just don't use Burke's grandma to pressure him. I'll go if that's what you want."

She then stood up and picked up her bag.

"You don't have to,"

Burke said coldly as he reached out and grabbed Amanda's hand, looking at Rose expressionlessly. He then lowered his eyelids to avoid seeing the shock and pain in her eyes.

"You're already here. So why don't you leave after the lunch?"

"Burke?" Amanda looked at Burke as if she was so surprised that he asked her to stay. The corners of her mouth curved into a smile almost imperceptibly and continued with her act. She looked at Rose and asked in a timid tone, "Rose, is it really okay?"

Rose was rendered speechless as she felt so absurd. Burke wanted Amanda to join their family lunch. And now Amanda was shamelessly asking her if it was okay. Why did she feel like she was the villain here? It was as if she was the one who did something wrong.

Yes, perhaps she had really done something wrong. Probably from the moment that she fell in love with Burke, everything was already wrong.

"How dare you!" Burke's grandmother stomped her walking stick heavily on the floor. She then ordered furiously, "Lin! Call the guards in to kick this uninvited woman out!"

Upon seeing that the situation was getting worse, Sue decided to act like a good daughter-in-law. She held Burke's grandmother's arm and said in a melodious tone, "Mom, don't get so angry. It's not good for your health." She then supported Burke's grandmother to stand up and added, "Let me take you to your room so you can rest. I'll handle the situation here."

Lin was in a dilemma. As his gaze moved from Burke's unhappy look to Burke's grandmother's furious expression, he didn't know what to do.

Both of them were his masters. He couldn't disobey any order from Burke's grandmother, but he also couldn't go against Burke.

"Grandma, you don't have to drive me away. I will leave now," Amanda said between sobs as she cast Rose a meaningful glance.

"No, you don't have to. I'll be the one to leave." Rose pressed her pale lips tightly and smiled bitterly. She picked up her handbag, and quickly walked out of the Gu Family's villa, turning a deaf ear to Burke's grandmother who tried to stop her. It was very obvious who Burke wanted to stay. She didn't need to embarrass herself here in front of everyone.

"No, Rose. Please don't go. This is all my fault, so let me go," Amanda said in a voice full of guilt and sincerity as she took her handbag and chased after Rose.

Rose turned around and looked at Amanda, who was in front of her now. Indeed, Amanda was really good at playing innocent. "Amanda, you don't need to pretend to be so kind to me now." The truth was, she felt sick seeing Amanda's pitiful face.

Upon realizing that there were only the two of them outside the Gu Family's villa, Amanda stopped acting. She wiped the tears on her face, smiled provocatively, and whispered in Rose's ear, "Rose, you can't beat me. Never." She then pushed Rose hard.

And since Rose didn't see it coming, she instantly crashed into the door's glass panel. The impact was so strong that she squatted down with a muffled cry. The surroundings seemed to be spinning, and she felt a piercing pain in her belly.

A sly smile appeared on Amanda's face as she stared at Rose, who was still in severe pain. Then an idea came to her mind. She slapped herself hard, fell to the ground, and screamed, "Ahhh! Rose, why did you hit me? What did I do for you to hate me so much?" She then covered her face with her hands and sobbed.

The people inside the villa heard the noise outside, so they all rushed over. They saw Amanda on the ground, crying bitterly with Rose squatting beside her. Since Rose lowered her heard and stayed motionless, they all couldn't see her face clearly.

In an instant, Burke's face turned ghastly pale with rage. He rushed towards Amanda and carried her in his arms, casting Rose a sharp glance, who happened to look up at him.

Their eyes met. One was so indifferent and cold while the other was miserable and desperate.

The few seconds that passed felt like several centuries to Rose. She helplessly watched as Burke turned his head away from her disgustedly and walked away with Amanda in his arms. Her eyes got blurred, hurting both physically and emotionally. She was overwhelmed by grief.

"There's blood! Rose is bleeding!"

Before Rose totally lost her consciousness, she heard someone screamed, then it was followed by noisy footsteps. She subconsciously covered her painful belly as darkness gradually trounced her.
