Chapter 7 Both Were Insane

Carl's words turned the atmosphere in the car a bit awkward. He wanted to say something more, but Jackson clamped a hand on his shoulder to stop him.

"Do you know what the most terrible thing in the world is?" Jackson asked. "What?" Carl replied, confused.

"While someone drew an elephant on his penis, you don't even have any penis!" Jackson replied rather seriously.

Carl caught the meaning in Jackson's words. If he continued to embarrass Aaron, Carl would find himself emasculated soon.

Carl pursed his lips then and didn't say anything anymore. The car went quiet immediately.

From a loud atmosphere to a deathly silent one, Irene felt the change in mood strange.

She racked her brain for another topic to talk about to ease the tension in the car.

"Aaron, what do your friends do?"

Although Irene did not come from a rich family, she could see that the car they were in must be expensive. It was very spacious and looked classy with its leather seats and exquisite interior. As a professional driver, how could Aaron have friends who could afford cars like this?

She was a little curious.

Aaron must have realized what she was truly asking. He explained, "Carl works as a singer in a bar and Jackson runs a hotel. And this car was bought by Carl from a smuggler. It was only twenty thousand dollars when he bought it."

"Oh, I see." Irene nodded her head. Maybe she was overthinking it. She asked him again, "Is it difficult for Jackson to open a hotel?"

"Of course. Just look at his depressed face. You can imagine how hard he has it," Aaron replied.

"Yeah, you're right. Can I call him Poker Jackson?"

"Sure! That's a good nickname. It sounds like you're close when you call him a nickname. Honey, you're so clever. From now on, I'll call you Queen of Wit."

The couple continued to banter and paid no attention to Jackson, who could obviously hear them. Meanwhile, Jackson thought, 'She calls me Poker Jackson? She never even asked if that's alright with me. My life's about to turn upside down with her around.

And why does Aaron only smile at her? Celibacy really does bad things to one man's brain. Just look at him now.'

Carl shot Jackson a quick, meaningful look from the driver's seat. "Poker Jackson, are you a little envious of what they have now? Do you want to find yourself a wife?"

Jackson's face darkened and he replied, "Fuck off, Carl."

Their car arrived at the gates of A University shortly. Irene and Aaron got off the car before Jackson and Carl followed them.

Irene was surprised that Aaron and his friends followed her in. She thought they were just dropping them off.

"You three can wait here. If you all go inside, all the girls will go crazy."

Aaron felt a little disappointed at Irene's instructions. He really wanted to see what her dorm room looked like.

Softly, he said, "Okay. You can go in now. We'll wait for you here."

Irene nodded her head before she turned around and went in. She wanted to look back to see if Aaron was watching her as she went in.

In romance novels, the love interest would always watch the heroine as she went until she disappeared.

As much as she wanted to, Irene didn't have the courage to see if Aaron really watched her go. If he had turned around and left, she would be very disappointed and embarrassed.

Irene was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice the change in environment. A scream pierced through her musing. "Irene! Where have you been? We haven't seen you since last night!"

Irene turned her head and found Helen Wu rushing towards her, crying and sniffling. Before she could dodge the other girl's hug, Helen Wu had already pounced on her. Helen Wu rubbed her face on Irene's clothes, including her snot and tears.

"Irene, how could you be so cruel? Do you know how worried I was? I called you so many time but nobody answered the phone. I thought you went out with Jonny."

Irene immediately covered Helen Wu's mouth with her hand. She turned her head around, checking if Aaron was around. He was standing not too far away but his face remained stoic. Maybe he didn't hear what Helen Wu had said.

"Helen, can you please control your mouth?"

"Where on earth did you disappear to last night? I went to ask Jonny, but he couldn't give me a straight answer. Something must be wrong with you two."

Irene sighed and lowered her head. "Let's talk about it at our dorm room."
