Ryker's claws dug into the earth as Kael's gaze pinned him in place. The wind shifted, carrying a low hum that only wolves could hear-the subtle thrum of tension, of power colliding.
"You think you can just defy me?" Kael's voice was smooth, dangerous, a predator savoring the chase.
swallowed hard, refusing to back down. "I don't fear you, Kael. You may command the North, but you will not command me."
A slow, cruel smile curved Kael's lips. "Is that so?" His presence pressed against Ryker, heavy and suffocating, making the air between them shimmer with an electric heat. "Because you don't understand what this... bond... will do to you."
Ryker's heart thundered. That word again. Bond. Something innate, primal, impossible to fight. Every fiber of his being wanted to run. Every fiber of his being wanted to stay.
"You think I care about bonds?" Ryker growled, yet the truth rang bitter in his throat. He cared-more than he dared admit.
Kael's eyes darkened. He stepped closer, so close Ryker could feel the warmth of his breath. "You already care. You feel it, don't you? That pull... that hunger?"
Ryker wanted to deny it. Wanted to strike him down before desire could root itself in his heart. But the second Kael's hand brushed against his chest, the Alpha's touch sent fire racing through him.
Ryker's fangs itched, his claws trembled-but not from anger. From need.
"Stay away," Ryker whispered, though every inch of him screamed to do the opposite.
Kael tilted his head, eyes glinting with amusement and something darker. "And yet... you haven't moved away. You're mine, Ryker Storm. Whether you accept it or not."
Ryker's world spun. Rage and desire tangled inside him like two feral wolves locked in battle. One could destroy him. The other could save him. And he didn't know which he wanted.
A low growl rumbled deep in Kael's chest. "Tonight," Kael said, his voice almost a purr. "I claim what's already mine."
Ryker's knees threatened to give out, but he stood firm. "Not tonight. Not like this."
Tyler's eyes softened-just for a heartbeat. "There is no 'like this,' Ryker. There's only us... and the storm that comes with it."
The wind howled through the trees. Shadows danced around them. And for the first time, Ryker wondered if destiny had been hunting him all along-until it led him here, to the Alpha he was meant to kill.
