Chapter 9 Dangerous attraction

Chapter 9

~ Kaelen's POV ~

The splatters against the windows were the only things that doused the silence between me and my new bride as we drove home.

I'd never experienced something as fake as my own wedding in my whole life. Everyone seemed to be happy - not with the union, but with the fact that there was someone who could withstand my chaos. Someone who could tame my monster. Someone who didn't mind dying in the process if that was what it took.

The cheers still gave me a bad headache.

"What was that?", Gaius questioned when he dragged me to the side while everyone was eating and dancing in celebration.

"What was what?", I feigned ignorance, knowing fully well what he was talking about.

"What was that kiss for?"

That was a question I had no answer to.

"You asked that we kiss, didn't you?"

"I did, but I didn't ask you to fuck her lips with yours."

"You're being dramatic, Gaius. I had to make it look real."

He sighed, even though it was obvious he still had his doubts. "You know that girl is going to be our test subject, and you'll be the ultimate end of her life. Don't distract yourself from the real reason you're marrying her. Catching feelings is not an option here. Don't get too close to her."

"She's not my type, Gaius. The fact you think I'd ever develop any sort of feelings for her is an insult."

His last words still got stuck in my head. I acted like I owed no one an explanation for the kiss between Mirella and I when I actually had none to give.

"We're here, Alpha", the driver said.

I got down immediately he parked right and got out of the car. I walked round the car and opened Mirella's door before she could find her way out.

"Take your time", I took off my suit jacket and hung it in the air above her, making sure she was untouched and not minding that I got drenched by the time we got inside.

"You didn't have to do that", she said when I closed the door behind me.

"Well, you're my wife."

"Your fake wife. There's no one to pretend for, so stop acting like you care about me."

The least I could've gotten from her was a thank you.

"I'll show you to your room", I began my journey up the stairs.

"We're not sleeping in the same room?"

I stopped and turned. "You ask that like you want us to sleep together. Do you want us to sleep together?"

"Never. I... I'm asking to be sure that I won't be spending my night with a cold, scary person like you."

I kissed my teeth and looked away.

Mirella was not the first woman to call me that.

She followed me till we got to her room.

"If you want anything, you don't need to go downstairs. You could call a maid through the telephone-"

"Why did you kiss me?"

"Pardon?"

"The way you kissed me back at the wedding ceremony. Why did you have to do that?"

"Because we were asked to?"

"Kaelen, or whatever your name is. I know we had a deal, but what you did there was not part of it. I already can't stand you touching you, but kissing and touching me is crossing the line-"

"Sometimes you seem to forget that I could kill you if I feel like it."

I didn't hear a single word come from her.

I slowly turned to face her. The anger in my eyes shut her up, but she dared not look away.

"There is no line whatsoever between the both of us. I am the line. You don't get to tell me what I do with you and what I don't because I own you. I am the reason you live. If I want to, I'll kiss you a hundred times in front of my people. Just like you couldn't do anything then, you won't be able to do shit if I kiss you here and now."

The air between us in the room seemed to thin, even though it was a windy night.

"I dare you to."

"What?"

"If having your way is the worst you can do to show that you own me, then do it - kiss me here, and now."

In slow strides, I closed the distance between the both of us and stared point blank and the only living werewolf to dare me.

The fear in her system made her retreat, but she soon had her back against the wall. She had nowhere else to run, so she had to face the demon she hated so much.

She put her hands against my chest to create some space between the both of us, but I slapped them away and grabbed her by the waist.

"If you liked the kiss, just say you want another one. It's not that hard."

"Kaelen...", her once stubborn voice fell to a bare whisper.

I dragged her close to me and eliminated any form of distance between the both of us. I could feel her fragile heart beating against my chest.

The warmth from her skin quenched the cold in my system, but sparked up something else in me.

I slowly leaned in, only to stop inches away from her face.

I stared at those perfectly shaped lips for a second and watched her panting heavily as my grip went below her waist.

My lips travelled to her ear.

"Understand that your only reason for being here - the only reason you're alive is to keep me alive. Nothing less, nothing more. Your husband has no heart to love any wolf, including you. So I suggest you don't catch feelings till I'm done using you."

I let go of her, causing her to frantically search for something to hold up her weak body.

"Catch some sleep, honey. Today was a long day. I'll come kiss you good morning."

As I walked out of her room, Gaius's warning rang in my head again. Mirella just had a way of making me run mad. It didn't matter the boundary I set between the both of us - that madness always managed to force us dangerously close.
