Chapter 4 my best friend

Chapter 4

Rinnggg... Rinnggg... Rinnggg...

I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. It's Sunday, early in the morning... Who could be calling me at this hour?

"Hello..."

I answered with my eyes still closed, not even bothering to check the caller ID.

"Hey! Bestie, wanna go shopping with me?"

Oh, it's my best friend, Clover. I smiled. She's as lovely and joyful as always. But in my previous life, she fell into depression, which led to her death. It still baffles me based on her attitude and personality, it seems impossible for her to become depressed. What or who pushed her to that point?

"Hey, bestie, are you there? Hello...?"

Her voice snapped me back to reality.

"Okay, wait. I'll just get dressed. See you at the mall."

"Okay! See ya! Mwah!"

I smiled. She's such a sweet girl. I just hope I can change her fate this time. No! I will do my best to change what happened to her in my previous life.

I got up, took a quick shower, and got dressed. As I went downstairs, I saw my family already at the dining table.

"Hi, sweetheart! Breakfast is ready. Let's eat," Mom said with a warm smile.

As usual, Dad was drinking his coffee while reading a magazine, and my brother was already eating.

"Sis, come eat! Mom cooked, and I really missed her cooking, hehe," my brother said, grinning with his mouth full.

I just patted his head and ruffled his hair.

"Eat slowly, okay?" I told him with a smile.

"Sit down and eat, sweetheart," Mom said.

"Thanks, Mom, but I'll eat at the mall. Clover called-we're going shopping."

"Okay, take care."

"Yes, Mom. Bye!"

Our driver took me to the mall since I was still underage and not allowed to drive.

As soon as I arrived, I spotted Clover waving excitedly outside the mall. She ran up to me and hugged me tightly.

"I missed you!" she said, still hugging me.

"I missed you too," I replied, hugging her back and sighing.

I still couldn't shake off the thoughts about what happened to her in my previous life.

While we were shopping, I also bought something to wear for tonight's gathering-where I would finally meet my so-called fiancé.

Spending the morning with my best friend-shopping, eating, and just being together-felt nostalgic. I truly missed her. Somehow, it lightened the heaviness in my heart. In my past life, I wasn't there for her when she went through the hardest moments. I was a terrible friend.

But this time, I'll make sure she's happy. I won't let her go through the same pain again.

I smiled while watching her, determination burning inside me.

That evening, I got dressed and headed downstairs.

From the window, I saw several cars parked outside our house.

"So, you're finally here, Ash. Come over," Dad said in a tone that sounded anything but genuine.

I walked towards the man sitting with his back facing me. Something about him felt familiar.

Slowly, he turned around with a smile.

What?!

Isn't he... Mr. Handsome? The guy I saw yesterday at Dad's mistress's house?!

Why is he here?

What is he doing in our house?!

"Nice to meet you, my fiancée," he said, still smiling at me.

So he's Mr. Lopez... my supposed fiancé.

I forced a smile, feeling a little awkward. So, he knew who I was from the very beginning?

"You're Mr. Lopez?" I asked.

He simply nodded.

So the rumors were just rumors after all. The gossip said he was fat, ugly, and a womanizer... but looking at him now-wow. He's the complete opposite! With a face that handsome, no woman would ever reject him.

And wait-he's also the father of my child in my previous life...

Which means... if he gets me pregnant again, I'll get my child back!

But... I'll have to wait a few years first. Ugh!

"Sis, is he really Mr. Lopez? Wow, you really can't trust rumors," my brother whispered to me.

I elbowed him in response.

The adults continued talking about the engagement when I suddenly interrupted.

"I don't want to be engaged."

Silence.

Everyone turned to look at me.

"What did you just say?" Dad shouted.

"Let her be," Mr. Lopez said calmly.

He walked up to me and placed his hands on my shoulders.

"Why?" he asked seriously.

"Because I'm still a student," I replied.

"Okay. I'll wait until you graduate."

That's it?!

He's not even going to argue or force me?! What was I expecting? Ugh.

They finally left, and I let out a sigh of relief.

But Dad's expression told me he was about to explode.

"You need to be engaged as soon as possible!" he shouted.

"Why, Dad?" I shouted back.

"Because..."

Of course, he couldn't answer. Because the truth is-it's what his mistress wants.

"Don't force her to be engaged if she doesn't want to!"

Mom finally lost her patience and yelled at him.

Dad had no choice but to shut up.

I entered my room, sure that my dad would be talking to his mistress on the phone, so I grabbed my headphones to listen to their conversation.

I wasn't wrong-he called his mistress.

"Hello, hon, it's good you called. I miss you."

Amanda said, her voice so flirtatious that it almost made me want to vomit.

"How's the engagement?"

"It'll be a while before they get married because he still needs to finish his studies."

"What?" he shouted.

"I mean... what about me and your daughter?"

Suddenly, his voice was all sweet and fake.

"Don't worry, I'll find a way for us to be together."

Dad replied.

"What about your wife?"

"I'm already working on it. Once the company is in my name, I'll file for a divorce."

Dad said. What a jerk.

"Okay, hon, I'll expect that. Mwuah, I love you and I miss you."

What a b*tch.

Did you really think I'd let you do that and be comfortable and happy? In your dreams.

I opened my laptop, which was connected to their house's CCTV.

"We need to do something, Mom. My friends mocked me because I don't have a father to introduce."

Jaine said, acting all dramatic.

"Don't worry, darling, your dad is sorting out the divorce papers and the share transfer agreement for the company so that your dad can take control, and you'll be the one to inherit it. By the way, did you get the papers I asked for?"

"What for, Mom?"

"All you know is partying and drinking. Next week is the bidding for the lot. We need the papers to see which lot is the most profitable to sell. Gosh."

So, the bidding is her mom's idea. I'm not surprised.

"Don't worry, Mom, I'll find them."

"Make it quick, or we might get overtaken by his kid."

Too bad, I already have the papers, I said with a smile. And I know which lot will be sold for a big profit after five years, but once it's in my hands, I'll see the results in just one year. I can't wait to see that. Without Dad, I can support Mom and my brother. But of course, I won't let Dad, his mistress, and their bastard child take the company Mom worked so hard for.

"How's everything going with Xander, the son of your dad's business partner?"

Amanda asked. Jaine immediately blushed.

"Xander, Mom? We're fine, hehe. He often asks me out on dates."

So, they've been together from the start.

"Has anything happened between you two?"

"Mom, please."

She said, blushing.

"Not yet, but I'm working hard to make it happen."

What if I help her make her wish come true?

It was still early in the evening, and at this time, Xander would be at the bar.

I changed my clothes to go to the bar. I knew exactly which bar he usually goes to.

"Little wild cat, where are you going dressed like that? Hmm, I guess... another mission of yours."

I was surprised because Mr. Lopez was still there.

"Hey, Mr. Lopez, it's none of your business."

"It is my business, you know? I'm your fiancé."

"Didn't we already agree that I'll finish my studies first?"

"Yeah, but you're still my fiancé, and I'll marry you when you graduate."

He said with a smile.

"Fine, since you're already here, why don't you just come with me?"

I smiled at him.

"Is that fun?"

He asked.

"Yes, you're welcome to join."

I got into his car.

"What are you going to do again, little wild cat?"

He whispered in my ear, causing me to blush.

"You'll see later, Mr. Lopez."

"You can call me Dave. My real name is Dave Lopez."

Is he flirting with me?

We arrived at the bar, and I wasn't mistaken-he was there and already drunk.

I called the waiter and whispered for him to take Xander's phone. Since he was drunk, it was easy for him to get it. I immediately texted Jaine to tell her to come get Xander because he was drunk.

Less than an hour later, she was already there.

I saw her supporting Xander. I also booked them a room. Enjoy the moment, hehe.

You finally got together, just a bit earlier than I expected.

"You really surprised me."

Dave smiled at me.

"Now you know what kind of person I am... still, you want to marry me?"

"Of course... no matter who you are, I'll only marry one person-only you."

I just rolled my eyes at him because my cheeks were so red.

After that night, he drove me home.

I immediately collapsed on my bed and started thinking. Now that something has happened between them, many things could change. And did he really think he'd be happy just because something happened between them? Haha, that's where he's wrong.
