"Luna, you only have sixty-six days left."
I chose not to undergo treatment, and the day after the pack doctor left, Eduardo finally returned.
Seeing my pale face, he showed an unusual hint of concern. "Are you really sick?"
"Just didn't sleep well." I replied softly, keeping my tone as calm as possible.
He stared at me for a moment and then fell silent.
This was how we had always interacted.
He walked past me, and as I caught a whiff of a scent that wasn't mine, my heart ached sharply.
It was Paulina's scent.
My stomach churned.
I clenched my mouth shut, my nails digging into my flesh from the pain.
It took a long time before I managed to suppress the urge to vomit.
Yet, Eduardo remained oblivious to it all.
After he washed up in the bathroom, he lay straight down on the bed.
"Tomorrow is my grandfather's eightieth birthday, you..." He glanced at me and frowned. "You better not show up in front of him."
"Okay."
I knew this had always been a sore spot for him.
Back then, I was fetching blood pressure medicine for his grandfather, Bryan Clark, when a strange servant in the hallway stopped me.
He handed me a glass of " special drink", claiming it was specially prepared for me by Bryan.
After a few sips, my consciousness began to blur, and my body felt dizzy and feverishly warm.
When I pushed open the lounge door, I saw Bryan half-naked and looking pale.
The room temperature was high, and I couldn't resist taking off my outer clothes.
Suddenly, a force from behind pushed me, and I fell towards Bryan.
At that moment, Eduardo's figure rushed in.
He grabbed me, roughly throwing me to the floor, and quickly moved to Bryan's side.
"Grandpa, wake up!"
Bryan slowly opened his eyes and saw me with flushed cheeks and a dazed look, his brows furrowing tightly.
Meanwhile, outside the door, several reporters had already squeezed in, swarming in with flashing cameras, capturing the scandal.
The glaring lights captured the embarrassing scene clearly.
"Alpha, is Miss Brooks trying to become your grandfather's new Luna?"
"Miss Brooks, were you trying to use the opportunity of delivering medicine to get pregnant and seek recognition?"
I struggled to get up, my body weak, forcing myself to defend. "No, someone gave me something strange to drink, I couldn't control myself..."
Eduardo turned back to look at me, his eyes devoid of the warmth they once held, filled only with doubt and disdain.
He cast a cold glance at me. "Someone drugged you? Is that the excuse you came up with? "My grandfather treated you like family, and you wanted to do this to him?"
I froze, my throat tightening.
I wanted to say more, but his gaze silenced me.
The next day, the news magnified the image of me in my underwear lunging at Bryan, with a headline that was glaringly malicious.
I stared at the news on my phone, my fingers trembling slightly.
When Eduardo pushed the door open and came in, I immediately looked up, eyes filled with hope.
"Alpha, listen to me, I was really drugged. I can take a urine test, I can find that servant..."
Eduardo tossed a newspaper in front of me, the front page featuring that photo. "Do you think I'm that easy to fool? The banquet hall's surveillance didn't capture the 'servant' you mentioned, this is just an excuse for your wrongdoing. Weren't you just trying to use my grandfather to rise in status?"
"No! I really didn't!"
But besides saying this, I had no other way.
I never intended to do such a thing to Bryan.
I loved Eduardo.
Yet, I could never forget his look of disgust.
However, during Eduardo's coming-of-age ceremony the next day, I was chosen by the Moon Goddess to be his Luna.
Even though Bryan despised me, he still accepted the arrangement of the Moon Goddess, which allowed me to become Eduardo's Luna.
From then on, I never participated in their family gatherings.
Seeing me agree so readily, Eduardo lifted the quilt and sat up.
He first asked me calmly, "What were you going to give me that night?"
Thinking of my dead cubs, my hand still trembled uncontrollably.
"Nothing."
I was foolish, even if I were pregnant, what difference would it make?
These were just cubs who would be welcomed by no one except me.
