The pack doctor didn't let me leave. The next day, he pulled me aside for a slew of tests.
During this time, Eduardo didn't send me a single message.
After the tests were finished, I dragged my heavy legs back to the manor.
At the entrance, I saw a familiar silver sports car.
Eduardo was leaning against the car door, his black coat accentuating his stern, chiseled features.
Standing beside him was Paulina.
My steps faltered, and I couldn't control the hatred that welled up in my eyes.
Paulina's eyes sparkled with excitement as she greeted me softly, "Pattie, you're finally back. Eduardo has been worried about you all night."
I didn't respond, instead shifting my gaze to Eduardo.
His eyes were cold as ice.
"Pattie Clark." He approached me with a few quick steps, "Didn't you hear Paulina speaking to you? As my Luna, you can't be so disrespectful."
I was stunned, my throat tightening.
"I... I'm very tired..."
"Don't try to explain." Eduardo cut me off, his gaze filled with disdain. "Every time Paulina comes back, you put on this disgusting act!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen.
Eduardo had kicked me with astonishing force.
I fell backward like a leaf, landing heavily on the ground. My head struck a stone by the roadside, and my vision went black.
A bitter taste filled my mouth, and I coughed violently.
Blood dripped onto the white shirt on my chest, blooming into striking red flowers.
"Keep up your act, go on." Eduardo looked down at me, his voice devoid of any pity. "You use the same tricks every time, Pattie. Can't you come up with something new?"
Paulina clung to Eduardo's arm, her voice trembling with tears, "Honey, don't be angry, Pattie might really be unwell..."
But her lowered eyes hid a subtle trace of smugness.
The manor's butler couldn't bear it any longer and quickly called for the pack doctor.
As I was carried back to my room, I could still hear Eduardo speaking tenderly to Paulina, "Ignore her, I asked the butler to prepare your favorite breakfast."
The test results came back, and the pack doctor found Eduardo with the report in hand.
His expression was grave. "Your Luna has internal bleeding in her abdomen and also seems to be suffering from silver poisoning. The recent physical trauma has worsened her condition. She needs immediate and comprehensive examination and treatment."
Eduardo took the report and, without even glancing at it, ripped it to shreds.
He sneered and said, "How much did she pay you to concoct this lie for her?"
Eduardo walked to the bedside and yanked me off the bed. "Or are you sleeping with him behind my back? Pattie, you just want to make me feel sorry for you and compete with Paulina for my attention. But remember, you'll never measure up to Paulina."
The pack doctor was stunned, looking at the cold-hearted man before him.
He couldn't help but say in a deep voice, "Alpha, please do not insult me, nor your Luna. Moon Goddess will punish you for all you're doing now."
Eduardo sneered disdainfully and turned away without a word.
I lay motionless on the floor like a rag doll he had tossed aside.
The wolf within me was growing weaker.
I didn't know what I had been hoping for just now.
I knew nothing would change.
I closed my eyes, exhaustion and disappointment filling my heart.
The wind howled outside the window, as if crying for me.
I understood now.
In Eduardo's heart, my life was worth less than a single tear from Paulina.
