Chapter 8 8

"What is going on Lylah?"

Edward asked again. I have never been more relieved to see him in my life.

Before I could open my mouth, Thane cut me off, "Arrest her, this time I will make sure that you do not escape scottfree" He commanded but Edward just stood there.

His eyes on me before it moved to the knife at Thane's neck, I knew it was a warning to put it down yet I felt reluctant to do it, I was so close, so close to killing him.

I definitely wouldn't survive the aftermath but I would be taking him with me to hell.

I slowly put it down and stepped away from Thane.

"I cannot do that Alpha Thane" he reacted.

Thane looked confused as Edward held my hand and pushed me behind him.

"What do you mean by that, you have all the evidence that she snuck into the pack house again, are you trying to defy me?"

They both stared at each other, this was something unusual, Edward was under oath to serve the Alpha without defiance but it felt like Edward hated Thane as well.

Could it be because of me or something else entirely.

"She works here" Edward dropped the bombshell.

"That's not possible. I would never allow her to work here, considering our history she might be here to kill me or the Luna"

"If she wanted to kill you then she would have done it a week ago when she began working" he muttered, his hands resting firmly on mine.

This was all new information to Thane, not only was he startled that I worked there but he was also shocked that I had started working a week ago.

"How did this get past me?" It was his way of saying that he would have stopped it if he saw it.

"Commander Sage had accepted her application to work here. He said it will help her image"

Hearing the commander's name, I turned towards Edward, I never thought he had gotten the commander into this.

Thane easily backed off and straightened his shirt,

"What are you still waiting for, you have work to do" Edward commanded. I didn't think twice to know he was talking to me, I turned to my heels and left immediately.

It's my turn to watch over the dinning area while the Alpha and Luna along with other ranked members have their Lunch, a seat is empty at the right end of the table, Commander Sage used to sit there.

After the incident earlier I know I would have two people at the table who would unhappy to see me.

The omegas brought in the food and were made to taste it first before they could finally leave.

The Luna and Alpha were the next to arrive while everyone was present, as they stepped into the room, we all bowed our head as they took their seat.

The moment I lifted my head, I felt eyes on me.

"What the hell is she doing here?" She barked at me.

Before I could open my mouth, more words came out of hers,

"Who the hell let her in here?"

"I did, she works here now" Commander Sage answered as he walked into the room. I was grateful for his presence since I won't have to answer the question myself.

"Why?" She lashed out.

"Because she needed a job and was recommended. I saw no reason not to hire her"

"There has never been a female guard before and there never will be, I want her out right now" her tone was pitched.

"Give me three reasons why she should leave and I wil kick her out now" he asked.

"She tried to... she is..." Darla found words to say but nothing came out of her mouth. She was the one who wronged me, I had never done anything to her but she made my life miserable by taking what was once mine.

I was humiliated and arrested all because of her.

"Then she stays" Commander Sage answers.

"I would prefer a heads up before things like this occur again" Thane casually said trying to keep his composure against the commander.

They were both helpless against him, After the Death of the previous Alpha, Commander Sage was put in charge to train the New Alpha and Luna for three years until they were ready to assume power.

Right now, they could not defy his words.

The room was silent as they began eating, after a little while, a plate smashed on the floor.

The omegas rushed to clean it up.

"Leave it, I want her to clean it up" She pointed at me.

It was clearly not my job to clean up mess like that but Darla wanted to prove a point, she wanted to show that she was the Luna and no matter what position I held, she was still above me.

I turned to Commander Sage to put her in her place but he kept on eating without a bother, it wasn't his job to save me, it was my duty to save myself.

I grabbed the broom and packer and cleaned up the mess without anything like a grunt.

To me it was test to see if I would react, this was nothing compared to the amount of times I had killed Darla in my mind.

After I was done, I returned to my spot and waited until they were all done eating before I was allowed to continue my work elsewhere.

I thought my day had ended at just that, but I was made to accompany the Alpha and Luna to a secluded spot.

We had followed them for minutes, the path looked looked familiar until we ended up at the waterfall.

The spot Thane had confessed his love to me, I could still remember the moments we shared here.

He chose to bring her here in Spite, to make me feel less of myself.

I had begged him several times for a picnic date at the waterfall, still we never had the chance to do it, thinking about it made me realize how unfair he was to me yet I thought he was the most supportive man in the world.

"This place is beautiful" she took a deep breath, taking a seat on the blanket, I stood guard by the cave along with three other guards.

I knew the place like the back of my hand so I was able to make the guards stand at each entrance incase of a rogue attack. I found myself doing thing I shouldn't be doing for people that I hated.

'Curse you Edward', I could have been free rather than watch this all unfold.

"I have always thought of bringing you here, it's my favorite spot to clear my head. Now it will be our favorite spot" he said smiling largely at her.

He reached out to hold her hand, she just stared at it, smiled then pulled away by reaching for an apple in the basket.

I was so consumed by my hatred for Thane that I never realized the distance between them. I knew Thane had fallen madly in love with her from the minute he met her but I never knew about Darla, If she felt the same way about him.

Seeing him get ignored cured my spirit, I tried hard to hold my smiling face but it was plastered all over. I love to see him suffer, even if it was the tiniest of things.

As an Alpha, the pressure was now on him to raise an heir, an apparent heir to the throne. They have been together for a year now, it was obvious that the elders were asking questions, the pack was watching for when the good news would begin.

Darla barely spoke a sentence to him and there was Thane, trying to convince her that he mattered in her life.

"I look forward to us being together" he took her hand in his. The promise ring he had taken from me was on her left finger and on her right finger was the Alpha's ring given to every Luna of the pack.

He slowly moved closer to her caressing her hand as they watched the scenery, my stomach built up in disgust watching them.

Then he reached out and stroke her hair, lean in for a kiss but she immediately stood up.

I would congratulate him for such a classic move, I recognize it because he had done it to me. The difference between Darla and me was that, a naive little me allowed him to kiss me thinking he was the mate for me.

"I think it's time to go back, I am having a slight headache and I need to rest"

"Now?" His expression was dumbfounded, we had just arrived and yet she wanted to leave. She was making his life miserable and I loved it.

"Yes" she let out a soft smile.

A smile big enough to make him melt in an instant.

He couldn't resist her, right now she had more power than him as the daughter of the Alpha until when they are inducted and he would gain full command. He wouldn't have to bow to her or anyone, he would be the authority.

I hoped in my heart that I would be able to escape this horrid pack before I see him take full command.

In no time we were back at the pack house, Thane retuned to his room for the night feeling defeated, my shift was finally over and I was ready to crash into my bed and allow sleep take over when I heard whispers as I passed the Luna's room in the third floor.

My feet halted and my lips parted at the sight of what I saw.

Right there in Darla's room was another man, tall, brown hair, erect shoulders and green eyes.

"I still love you" Darla whispered and rushed in for a kiss.
