Chapter 4 The Woman Beneath The Skin

Tex's POV

It's the first time in three days she has called my name.

It seems as though regret eats her up. Certainly, her mind must be reminiscing over her mistakes and why she chose to end with me.

She stared blankly at the beach while I hurried to get her a cup of coffee from the beachside café.

I just had a feeling she needed to find tranquility and the beach was the best option.

She must regain her memory. It's essential, and my future depends on what's locked up in her head.

I pointed the cup at her to take it. However, she dragged it from me and pitched it to the ground.

"Fuck!" I cussed, trying to simmer down the anger in me. She's so different and crazy. I held my cup tightly while trying to understand her.

"Are you going to do it or not?" Lucy spat, fuming like she had a beef. I felt irritated as I heaved a sigh.

Out of the blue, she wants me to kill Merlo. It made me wonder how she knew him and Camilla.

"If you want revenge, make them have a taste of their medicine, crumble them bit by bit" I mused, trying to wipe off the stain she created on my shirt.

"Fine, then get me every information I need about them," she snapped. When I raised my head to look at her, my heart fluttered.

The wind tossed her hair aside as her beautiful face glistened under the mild sun's rays.

I narrowed my gaze, stopped what I was doing and placed a glare at her, but she didn't flinch. Rather, it seemed as though we were having an eye contest and I had to resign.

What? Do I look like her secretary or servant that she sends me around? I ignored her, intending to gulp down my own coffee when she took it from my hand.

"Except if you don't want Miguel to know how badly you treat me"

I widened my eyes at her, now she's using her father to threaten me? I thought she was head-over-heels for me and always made her father run the dirty jobs.

I don't like this new her, she sounds bossy not innocent. Her eyes gestured to me to give a response.

I almost replied when my phone beeped, and I fluttered my lashes, taking a step away from her to respond to the caller.

"Any signs?"

"Not yet, she can't recall", I responded and quickly terminated the call.

Turning around, I got startled by her. She was right behind me, eavesdropping on my conversation.

"Shit! "Can you stop doing that Lucy?" I barely almost died of a heart attack. I had to rub my chest with diluted gaze at her.

She was angry, darting her eyes to and fro. A sense of anguish lingers on her face.

"What's your plan for Lucy? Are you trying to kill her and bury her? Take her inheritance..."

"What are you saying?" I cut in, defending myself. She was confusing me, like she wasn't Lucy.

It seems she's the one who would bury me alive with those eyes.

"I heard your conversation and men like you aren't worth living in society!"

I gasped, unable to breathe or scream. The way she stared, accusing me, bewilderment flushed my face as I froze where I stood.

I've heard false accusations before that I am getting used to it, but why does her hurt so much that I can't breathe?

She was always the one who defended me, who made me feel that there was a good in me.

Lucy was going insane, covering her ears and panting heavily.

She shook her head, as though trying to fight something, and she was suddenly stepping back from me.

"Don't kill me, I'm pregnant, please, I'll let it slide, I won't come closer to you both..."

Lucy needed help and I quickly drew closer to her, dropped her hands and embraced her.

It's the only option I can think of.

Her slender body synced with mine, her muscles relaxed, releasing tension while i cuddled her warmly.

Her hot breath, her face tilted upward, her lips parted, feeling the gentle pressure of my chest and she closed those eyes.

Her tears soaked my shirt while I struck my back, feeling bad that she had to go through this pain.

"No one's killing you, not under my watch. I'd protect you Lucy."

I glanced at the handcuffs on me, inhaling deeply. I couldn't even defend myself.

The detective scrutinized me. It seemed he was overwhelmed that I returned to this place again.

He had told me he'd get me locked up soon after my recent arrest.

"He tried to kill me, go through his call contacts!" She fired, but I only leaned my back on the chair, trying not to disturb myself.

From the beach to the precinct over false allegations of trying to murder her. Awesome, this is what I get for playing the good guy for a day.

I thought we were cool after that embrace, only for her to start a run, to attract people on the beach, so I tried to kill her.

"It's a couple's fight, and she suffers from anemia," I pointed out, thudding my hands on the table.

The detective claims my aggressive nature proves that I intended to hurt her.

"Tell them Lucy, I mean no harm" I said, placing a piteous look, gesturing to her, but she wasn't looking at me but the window.

"He pointed a gun at me, and she was right there, chuckling... eating the apple."

My eyes followed her fingers as she was fiddling, her eyes red, her skin tingles.

"Then he buried me" she stammered, straining her hair like she'd pulled them off.

Something was wrong.

I was silent, suddenly stiff, as if she was referring to someone else. Could it be her nightmare?

"If he buried you...how did you come out ma'am?" The detective questioned curiosity at her demonstration, and my eyes only stared at her.

"I... I found myself here as Lucy."

My face brightened as I felt a gripping sensation. Gently, I held her shoulder and rolled her face to look at me.

I swallowed hard as a ray of hope sparked in me. Like I was staring at the woman I'd wanted to hold for long.

Tears blew up in my eyes as my heart rate increased. Everything faded away except her.

"Camilia?"
